Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 414 - 404: New World

Chapter 414: Chapter 404: New World

The first thing Tang Mo did upon waking up in the Illusion Realm was check if she could still use her Space. After all, she had firsthand experience of what it was like to starve the last time she lost it.

She hadn’t gone hungry in a very long time. As far as Tang Mo was concerned, she would rather face the most terrifying mutant beasts, rather have a good, satisfying brawl, than endure starvation day after day.

The agony of starvation was just too much to bear.

However, this time, Tang Mo was once again doomed to disappointment.

As usual, upon entering the Illusion Realm, a stream of new information flooded Tang Mo’s mind. It contained the life experiences of her new body’s host, and hidden within it was the mission she had to complete.

After briefly processing the information, Tang Mo fully understood the situation in this new world.

This world was also an apocalyptic one. Just like before, all the crops had been lost for the same reason, plunging humanity into famine once again.

But unlike other apocalypses, this one had no mutant beasts or any other terrifying creatures that could threaten human Life.

However, the absence of mutant beasts didn’t mean there was no danger. In fact, it made the situation even more dire.

This world had something else that was terrifying: a poison fog. And yes, it was the same kind of fog that had appeared during the first six months in Tang Mo’s home world.

Everything was identical, except this poison fog didn’t contain any mutant beasts.

An ordinary person couldn’t survive more than ten minutes in the fog. Even those with enhanced bodies—the superpower users—could only last for half an hour at most.

As a result, people in this world almost never left their homes, limiting their activities to the confines of their own building.

But food was finite. It was bound to run out eventually. If they didn’t venture outside, their only fate was to be trapped in their homes until they starved to death.

Staying home meant death, and going out also meant death. It was as if this world’s apocalypse offered humanity no path to survival whatsoever.

And Xu Yin, Tang Mo’s mission objective in this world, had been starved to death in this very environment.

Xu Yin was twenty-seven years old, a postgraduate from a prestigious university. She had a bright future, a happy family, and lived with her parents.

Before the apocalypse began, Xu Yin had relied on her sharp judgment and intuition to stock up on a large amount of food the day before it all started.

After the apocalypse began, Xu Yin’s family of three should have had more than enough food to safely shelter in their home.

The problem, however, was that Xu Yin’s parents weren’t as clear-headed as their daughter. Both of them were incorrigible do-gooders.

Hearing the desperate cries of their neighbors, they generously gave away their family’s food. Their reputation for generosity soon attracted trouble, which ended with Mr. Xu getting his leg broken.

But that wasn’t the end of it. Despite Xu Yin’s desperate pleas, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu welcomed the relatives and friends who came flocking—a pack of wolves—into their home.

With Mr. Xu’s broken leg, Xu Yin and Mrs. Xu—two women on their own—had no way to fight back.

Seeing their chance, those relatives revealed their malicious intentions and took over the home for themselves, eventually kicking Xu Yin’s family of three out onto the street.

Fortunately, Xu Yin had managed to hide some food on her person that they hadn’t found.

The three of them managed to survive for a while longer on that small amount of food.

Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu had always doted on Xu Yin. They were innately kind, but also foolish. So, even after everything that had happened, and as furious as Xu Yin was, she couldn’t bring herself to abandon them. Her only choice was to repeatedly risk her life, trying desperately to find more food.

But in the end, she didn’t make it through the apocalypse. Caught between starvation and the poison fog, she died on the streets.

When their daughter didn’t return, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu grew terribly worried. Unable to wait any longer, they went out onto the streets to find her, and they too lost their lives.

After she died, Xu Yin’s soul hadn’t yet dissipated when she witnessed her parents die just a short distance behind her. She was overcome with grief.

Seeing the relatives who had stolen their home and driven her family to their deaths, her heart filled with even greater resentment.

But what was most unbearable for Xu Yin was that not long after her family’s death—just three months into the apocalypse—the fog actually dissipated...

The world slowly returned to normal, as if nothing had ever happened.

If... if not for her parents’ misguided kindness, if not for the villains who broke her father’s leg, if not for those ungrateful, cruel-hearted relatives who repaid kindness with malice.

With the food Xu Yin had initially stockpiled, plus their family’s efforts, the three of them could have easily held out for three months until the apocalypse ended and the skies cleared.

But there were no ’what ifs’...

The world returned to normal, but some people were lost forever in those three dark months.

Xu Yin’s resentment was incredibly strong, but her own soul had already dissipated too much, making it impossible for her to return to her body.

And so, Tang Mo had arrived.

And now, at this very moment, it was the day before this world’s apocalypse was set to begin. A time before anything had gone wrong.

Xu Yin’s wish was simple: to guide her parents safely through these three months, to prevent the tragedy from repeating itself, and to thwart the schemes of those wicked people.

Although she could never return to this world, her spirit could rest as long as her parents survived the apocalypse and those vile, shameless people received their just punishment.

The memories faded, and Tang Mo let out a sigh.

She wasn’t sighing because the mission was difficult. On the contrary, for someone like Tang Mo, this task was incredibly simple.

Moreover, three months inside the Illusion Realm translated to only fifteen days in the real world. She could complete this mission well within that time.

Tang Mo had budgeted a month for herself, so fifteen days was even better.

Tang Mo’s sigh was for the poor girl, Xu Yin.

Xu Yin was a smart woman; in some respects, she was actually quite similar to Tang Mo.

The girl was intelligent and brave, with sharp perception and judgment. She was decisive when handling problems, never hesitating.

It was just a shame she had been dragged down by her parents.

Tang Mo despised people like Xu Yin’s parents the most. In her eyes, people like them were even more terrifying than actual villains.

’Because villains only harm their enemies, but foolish do-gooders like Xu Yin’s parents end up harming those closest to them.’

Still, Tang Mo could understand Xu Yin’s wish. They were, after all, her birth parents—the ones who had raised her and given her all their love.

The fact that her parents had braved the dangers to search for her when she went missing proved that they didn’t lack love for their daughter—they were just incredibly foolish.

’Leave it to me.’

Tang Mo said to herself.

’This time, I will absolutely not allow your tragedy to be repeated. I will make sure those villains get the punishment they deserve.’

’This is my promise to you.’
