Chapter 391 - 381: Preparing to Leave
Chapter 391: Chapter 381: Preparing to Leave
His original plan was to be dead by noon. That way, when his brothers found his body, they could just take the child and leave.
Being a half-dead burden and making everyone worry was not Zhao Huan’s style.
But unexpectedly, he was lucky enough to meet this girl.
"So, you were discovered?" Tang Mo’s thoughts ran a step ahead. If Zhao Huan was injured, he must have been discovered. This place was no longer safe.
"Yeah." Zhao Huan’s expression turned serious. After what happened last night, he knew what the people at the food factory were capable of.
That band of outlaws was not to be trifled with. His own group of the old, weak, and injured wouldn’t last a minute against them.
Not only were those men all strong and vicious-looking, but they also had weapons.
"We need to leave now. Has Sister Hua returned?" Zhao Huan asked.
"No."
The first thing Tang Mo did after waking was check on Da Bao and Er Bao. Aunt Hua hadn’t come back.
Zhao Huan fell silent.
Both of them had been mentally prepared for Aunt Hua not returning, but it was still painful to face the reality.
But in this apocalypse, you were the only one responsible for your own fate. Since Aunt Hua had made her choice, she surely didn’t regret it.
After collecting themselves, Zhao Huan and Tang Mo both decided to leave at once. Getting out of here was the safest option.
Tang Mo immediately went to find Mr. and Mrs. Qiao, while Zhao Huan went to inform his brothers and get everyone ready to move out.
This time, their destination was the Yang Family Base.
When Tang Mo knocked and entered, George Lin and his wife were already awake.
It was probably the best night’s sleep they’d had since the apocalypse began. All their exhaustion seemed to have vanished, and seeing their daughter now filled them with renewed strength.
"Dad, Mom, we were discovered last night. We need to leave right away."
Tang Mo quickly and concisely explained the situation.
"Okay!"
George Lin reacted at once. ’Right, we’ve been discovered. It’s not safe here anymore.’
He quickly pulled his wife to her feet. They had no luggage to begin with, so there was nothing to pack.
"Here are some personal supplies. Use what you need and get ready. We still have a little time before we go."
Zhao Huan still had to inform the others, so it wasn’t an immediate rush.
They weren’t close to the food factory. Even if those people came looking, searching building by building wouldn’t be easy. For the time being, at least, they were safe.
"These two backpacks have food and water. Once you’re ready, each of you carry one."
"Okay." George Lin took the two bags, his heart filled with a mix of emotions.
He had sensed it since last night—Xiao Jin had changed.
He didn’t know when it had happened, but their precious daughter had grown up. She could not only take care of herself but also protect them.
Although it made him emotional, having the strength to protect oneself in the apocalypse was a good thing. They were happy for her.
No matter what Xiao Jin became, she would always be their beloved daughter.
Mrs. Qiao’s thoughts were simpler; she just looked at Tang Mo with a relieved and happy expression.
"Oh, right. We should share some of our supplies with Jia Ming."
It was thoughtful of Mrs. Qiao to remember to set aside a portion of food for Qi Jiaming.
That boy didn’t have to come out here and suffer, but he had joined them and endured many hardships along the way.
George Lin and Mrs. Qiao had come to think of Qi Jiaming as their own adopted son.
’Crap!’
Tang Mo slapped her forehead. ’How could I have forgotten about Qi Jiaming!’
There had just been too much happening these last two days. Caught between the joy of her impending return home and the pressure of saving the world, it was as if she had amnesia and completely overlooked Qi Jiaming.
The young man had been taking care of Qiao Jin’s parents this entire time. The least she could do was bring him some food.
It was one of Tang Mo’s principles to repay kindness. Qi Jiaming had truly gone above and beyond for the Qiao Family.
"Don’t worry, I’ve already set his share aside. Mom, Dad, you two finish packing. I’ll go get Qi Jiaming."
At this point, Tang Mo certainly wasn’t going to take anything from what she’d given Mr. and Mrs. Qiao.
’Didn’t I pack a big backpack for myself, too?’
With a heavy heart and great reluctance, Tang Mo took about a third of the supplies from the last large backpack and moved them into her own.
The rest, of course, was for Qi Jiaming.
’Oh well, I’ll just eat a little less,’ she thought. ’I’m starting to think I came to this world just to lose weight.’
After repacking the bag, Tang Mo shouldered her own pack, grabbed the heavier one, and knocked on Qi Jiaming’s door.
"This is for you. Get your things together. We’re leaving soon."
Qi Jiaming had been up for a while, pacing his room and looking for anything he could take with him. Unfortunately, he hadn’t found a single edible thing.
He was overjoyed when a heavy bag landed in his arms. He immediately opened it, looked at the contents, and grinned like a fool.
"Where are you all headed?"
"To the Yang Family Base." Tang Mo had heard about it from Zhao Huan; it had plenty of food and even an army.
’Maybe that’s a good place to start with this whole ’saving the world’ thing.’
’Besides, I have to get Da Mao and Xiao Mao there, too.’
In reality, Tang Mo could get Da Mao and Xiao Mao there very quickly, but she had a selfish reason for not doing so.
She hadn’t completely figured out her next steps, but she knew the Yang Family Base would be useful to her.
So, she needed to use the journey to think things through properly.
"You’re not coming with us?" Tang Mo could tell from his question that he didn’t intend to join them.
"I’ve been away too long. I have to go home."
At the time, Qi Jiaming wasn’t sure why he’d suddenly run out after them. He supposed he just couldn’t stand by and watch Qiao Jin’s parents go to their deaths.
He knew his parents were safe at home. There was still some food, and he had left them all of his own supplies. As long as they didn’t go outside, they would be fine.
He’d been away too long; his parents must be worried. Now that Qiao Jin was reunited with her parents, it was time for him to go home too.
"Yeah, that makes sense." Tang Mo nodded. Qi Jiaming’s parents were just ordinary people; they’d be much safer with him there.
"You should come with us for now," Tang Mo said after a moment’s thought. "I’ll take you home tonight."
’Who knows how long it would take for Qi Jiaming to walk back alone? He’d use up all that food just on the trip. I might as well take him myself.’
