Chapter 194 - 184: The Angel Has Come
Chapter 194: Chapter 184: The Angel Has Come
The young woman’s brow furrowed, and she bit her lip.
"What’s so wrong with me that you despise me so? I’m the daughter of the tribal chief, the most beautiful girl in our tribe, and one of the best hunters among the women. How am I not worthy of you?"
Having lived in the tribe her entire life, she was the apple of everyone’s eye. She was used to being showered with admiration since childhood and had never been met with such cold indifference.
She was very tall, around 178 cm.
She was rail-thin, perhaps because everyone here was malnourished, giving her a skin-and-bones appearance. She wore a form-fitting outfit stitched from animal hides.
The sun here was harsh, and everyone spent their days outdoors. As a result, everyone’s skin was rough and dark, and the young women were no exception.
Her hair was woven into numerous small braids and coiled atop her head. Overall, her features weren’t what one would associate with the Huaxia people.
In all fairness, though, the young woman’s features were quite striking. She was by no means ugly, and it was no exaggeration to say she was considered beautiful within the tribe.
"Utterly ridiculous. Utterly hideous."
Qin Ling said, without even opening his eyes.
"You!!"
The young woman never imagined he would judge her so harshly. In a fit of rage, she raised the small leather whip in her hand and struck one of the men at her feet.
The man who was struck let out a muffled grunt but didn’t cry out.
"Let’s see how long you can keep that tough act up!"
Humiliated and enraged, the young woman re-wrapped the venison in leaves, stomped her foot, and stormed out.
"Watch them closely! Starting tomorrow, they don’t even get water!"
After giving her orders to the guards outside, she strode off haughtily.
After Lea left, the room fell into a brief silence.
"Man, that smells good..."
Someone, unable to hold back, sighed wistfully.
THUD.
The man closest to him shot out a kick.
’Their leader is already miserable enough,’ he thought. ’How can you be so dense?’
’But it really did smell so good. And I’m so hungry.’
To have just one bite of meat, they’d willingly give up years of their lives.
That was the only thought on anyone’s mind.
Qin Ling huddled in the corner, silent, burying his head even deeper in his arms.
Outside the wooden hut, Tang Mo’s expression was terrifyingly grim.
She saw the guards at the door, and thinking of the strange things she’d encountered in this tribe, she didn’t dare to make a rash move.
Just as she was trying to figure out a plan, she saw that woman go inside.
She pressed herself against the wooden wall, listening through a crack between the planks.
The more she heard, the more her anger flared. How dare they bully her man so miserably in her absence.
If it weren’t for the last shred of reason she possessed, she would have stormed right in, grabbed that woman by the hair, and demanded to know who gave her the audacity to touch her man.
But by then, she had already thought of a safer method and forcefully suppressed her own turbulent impulses.
’She wouldn’t let them get away with this.’
Tang Mo committed it to memory.
Qin Ling’s head was bowed so low that Tang Mo couldn’t make out his expression, even with her enhanced night vision.
A sharp pain clenched Tang Mo’s heart. Once she saw the woman leave, she could no longer wait. She took a step back and began her plan.
She had been observing for a while. For some reason, the two guards seemed to believe the men in the room posed no threat whatsoever.
At that moment, Tang Mo still didn’t realize just how weak Qin Ling and the others were after being tormented by drugs and starvation.
The two guards were burly and looked to be Strength Type, but they were simply sitting at the hut’s entrance.
In all the time Tang Mo had been watching, they hadn’t made a patrol or even stood up, except when that woman came.
Now that the woman was gone, the two had even started dozing off.
The guards didn’t have the key; when the woman came, she had produced it herself.
The lock was a thick iron chain. Using her spiritual power, Tang Mo had already probed the area and gotten a crystal-clear understanding of the hut’s layout and construction.
Taking down the guards wouldn’t be difficult, nor would breaking the lock.
But if she couldn’t get Qin Ling and his men out of there tonight, the rest of her plan would be impossible.
She couldn’t wipe the guards’ memories, and she couldn’t repair a broken lock.
Furthermore, Tang Mo didn’t know the current state of Qin Ling and his men’s bodies. Given her cautious nature, a brute-force entry was not the best option.
Tang Mo channeled her spiritual power, forming several solid Wind Blades. At the rear of the hut, down low where it was hidden by grass, she cut a hole just large enough for one person to crawl through.
How should I put this...
It was a bit like a doggy door.
But a truly capable person knows when to be flexible, and Tang Mo felt no shame at all as she crawled through.
The planks were just ordinary wood, so Tang Mo cut through them easily without making a sound.
After she slipped inside, she carefully fitted the cut-out section of the wall back into place.
The hut wasn’t too crowded, so Tang Mo managed to crawl inside without bumping into anyone.
There were no lights inside. It was the dead of night, and everyone was in a half-conscious state between waking and sleeping, delirious with hunger. No one noticed a living person crawling in.
The pitch-black darkness didn’t hinder Tang Mo’s night vision in the slightest.
She extended her spiritual power, blanketing a ten-meter radius around the hut, ready to detect any disturbance.
The guards were about five meters from the hut, now slumped over a table, fast asleep.
Moving inch by inch, Tang Mo didn’t stand up. Instead, she locked her gaze on Qin Ling in the corner and crawled toward him.
Only when she was close did Tang Mo see him clearly. Qin Ling had gotten terrifyingly thin. His once form-fitting clothes now hung loosely on his frame. The man who had always been slender was now gaunt.
Sensing something approach, Qin Ling lifted his head and opened his eyes.
"Shh, it’s me."
Fearing he would make a sound and wake the guards, Tang Mo quickly pressed a finger to his lips.
Qin Ling’s lips were so chapped and cracked from dehydration that they felt sharp and painful against her finger.
"Momo..."
Qin Ling mumbled.
’This must be a hallucination. How could it be possible? I’ve been trapped in this place with no signal for over half a month.’
’Momo should be at the base with her family right now. She’s probably angry that I missed the day I promised I’d be back. How could she possibly be here?’
’I must just miss her so much that I’m seeing things.’
He didn’t care. Even if it was just a fleeting hallucination, he wanted it.
He reached out and pulled the warm, breathing person before him into a tight embrace.
Tang Mo hugged him back.
"It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here now. It’s all over."
