Chapter 5514: Heartless
Chapter 5514: Chapter 5514: Heartless
They didn’t get along, so there was no need to make themselves sick over the holidays.
Up until now, the relationship between Li Jinnian and his father was marked by a mutual understanding—don’t trouble me and I won’t trouble you, live your own lives. But with Old Man Xia having spoken up, Li Jinnian asked whether they would celebrate the New Year together, though he was not particularly concerned.
After Li Jinnian ended the call, he made a call to Old Master Li.
It wasn’t Old Master Li, but rather his second wife, who answered the call. As she saw the incoming call on the phone, her gaze flickered slightly before picking up.
"Hello, Jinnian," she said just one sentence, and the gaze of Madam Li sitting opposite her was sharp and venomous, shooting straight across.
This scourge, why would he contact the Boss?
Could it be that the father and son’s relationship had thawed?
Hearing his stepmother’s voice, Li Jinnian immediately lost the desire to speak. The stepmother knew it too, and said, "Just hold on," before handing the phone to her husband who was coming out of the washroom, whispering, "It’s Jinnian’s call."
Old Master Li’s expression darkened slightly as he took the phone his wife passed to him and began coldly, "What is it?"
It was less like a father and son and more like strangers.
Li Jinnian had long since become accustomed to this and conveyed Old Man Xia’s message in a flat tone as he awaited Old Master Li’s response.
Old Master Li first snorted coldly, then spoke in a chilly voice, "You belong to the Fu family; where you go is none of my concern. Tell Old Man Xia, I won’t come over to be an eyesore."
After saying this, he ended the call and said to his wife authoritatively, "You need not bother with his calls."
The stepmother was also used to her husband’s indifference towards his eldest son, giving a low "mhm" in agreement without fussing further.
He was the son left by the first wife; the less involved he was with her husband, the more it played to her and her own son’s advantage.
Madam Li, who had listened to the entire conversation, felt relieved knowing their father-son relationship remained cold.
"Alright, Boss, you know Jinnian has always been closer to the Fu family, so there’s no reason to be upset. Later on, when Ronghuan comes back, you should ask him what exactly he plans to do. Does he really expect me to kneel before him, this old bone, for him to let me go?"
As the eldest son, Old Master Li might have favored his second wife but hadn’t treated his eldest son unfairly. And Madam Li might have had her small schemes against Old Master Li, but she was wary. Now she dared to move against Li Ronghuan yet didn’t dare to make a move on Old Master Li.
And see, with Li Ronghuan causing trouble, she still had to call on the first wife’s eldest son.
Old Master Li was very much like Old Master Li, even in his cold nature. Old Master Li always said that Li Chuhai had the same ruthlessness in his bones as him, so Old Master Li’s coldness was a legacy of the Li family.
To Old Master Li, family affection was just this and nothing more.
No matter how much Li Ronghuan made a fuss, as long as it didn’t affect him, Old Master Li would not intervene.
Reacting to his stepmother’s words, Old Master Li said indifferently, "Whether he makes trouble or not is not for me to decide. What needs to be said, I will say."
"You are his elder brother; naturally, he will listen to your advice," Madam Li said without a pleasant expression. "Tianhao, now that your father is gone, are you planning to bully me, this old thing, like Li Ronghuan does?"
Li Tianhao was Old Master Li’s name.
"You’re overthinking it," Old Master Li glanced coldly at his stepmother, "You can still live in the Li residence, when have I ever said anything? If I truly acted, would you still be able to stay in the Li household?"
"Li Tianhao!" Madam Li was so angry she slapped the table, "How can you talk to my mother like that! This is her home, are you planning to drive her away?"
