The gang of thugs outside smashed the door while swearing and shouting angrily.

Huo Sining signaled to Wu Jun, who was about to open the door.

Unexpectedly, at this moment, Huo Sining’s phone rang.

It was an unfamiliar number. Huo Sining paused, seemingly having an idea, and answered the call.

"Hello, who is this?"

A woman’s voice came from the other end: "Hello, are you Miss Huo Sining?"

Huo Sining frowned slightly: "Yes, I am."

The person on the other side seemed relieved, quickly explaining:

"Hello, Miss Huo, I am Fan Yueran from the Dali City Government Office in Yun Province, the secretary to Secretary Du Wenfeng of the city. Are you still in Dali, Miss Huo?"

"Secretary Fan, I’m currently in Luohua County, Dali."

Noticing the displeasure in Huo Sining’s words, Fan Yueran instinctively tensed up:

"Alright, please wait there for a moment. Secretary Du and I are on our way to Luohua County and will be there shortly."

Huo Sining replied sarcastically: "Wait, by the time Secretary Fan and Secretary Du arrive, I might already be lying dead in Luohua County. Secretary Fan, I can wait, but those thugs outside might not be so patient."

Thugs? Upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, Secretary Fan was immediately bewildered: "What thugs? Where are you right now?"

Huo Sining chuckled: "I’m accompanying a subordinate to Xiakan Village in Luohua County to visit family and sweep graves, but as soon as I entered the village, I received a grand welcome. Your Dali City certainly lives up to its reputation, well done."

"I am at Yingfeng Shanyuan now. It’s not that I’m disrespecting Secretary Fan, but there are about a hundred people outside. Secretary Fan, listen closely."

With that, Huo Sining placed her phone at the door, letting Secretary Fan hear the shouting of the thugs through the gap.

"You damned wretch, daring to cause trouble on Brother De’s turf, are you tired of living?"

"Hurry up and open the door, or don’t blame us for being rude!"

Listening to the curses clearly on the phone, Secretary Fan’s face turned pale, and she became panicked.

Seeing Fan Yueran’s distressed expression now, Du Wenfeng felt contempt, though he dared not show it.

Little did Fan Yueran know what her secretary was thinking, but she was already somewhat flustered and nervously replied:

"Secretary, there’s a problem. Miss Huo is in Xiakan Village, Luohua County. I heard chaotic noises on the phone; it seems many people are surrounding Miss Huo."

Upon hearing this, Du Wenfeng opened his eyes wide:

"Surrounded? What’s Huo Sining doing? Huh, actors will always cause trouble, stirring up fans again, I guess! If she’s landed herself in this mess, she should be stuck for a while as a kind of punishment."

Du Wenfeng instinctively assumed that the ’surrounding’ mentioned by Fan Yueran was the fans surrounding her.

Thinking of celebrities being pursued by a swarm of brainlessly devoted fans, and yet he, a dignified secretary, received such a ridiculous task, was damaging to his standing.

The whole affair disturbed Du Wenfeng.

Fan Yueran was surprised, raising her head to glance at Du Wenfeng, realizing he wasn’t joking.

Her concerns troubled Fan Yueran for some time until she summoned the courage to speak up:

"Secretary Du, well... Miss Huo might be different from the celebrity you imagined. Didn’t Governor Wu inform you?"

Du Wenfeng scoffed: "Isn’t she just a performer in the entertainment industry? How is she different? Unless this Miss Huo has three heads and six arms?"

"Xiao Fan, you are a key member of the party branch and highly regarded; as a party member and an active part of the committee, concentrating on one’s own duties is imperative. Idol worshipping is an immature act; I hope you won’t disappoint my trust in you."

Seeing Fan Yueran speaking up for Huo Sining, Du Wenfeng thought Fan Yueran was a fan of Huo Sining, expressing displeasure while advising her sternly.

Fan Yueran felt speechless, initially suspecting, but now assured that Secretary Du truly didn’t know Huo Sining and wasn’t playing ignorant.

Worried, Fan Yueran felt urgency knowing that without clarification, if anything should happen concerning Huo Sining, they could face blame from higher-ups; though Du Wenfeng might escape consequences, she would undeniably suffer.

"No, Secretary, you’ve got it wrong. Huo Sining is neither an actor nor a singer; she gained fame by performing magic on the Spring Festival Gala."
