Chapter 2487 - 2390: Homicide Case
Chapter 2487: Chapter 2390: Homicide Case
Lei De isn’t stupid; he already knows from Brother Hao that the troublemaker has some skills, so naturally, he wouldn’t rush in solo without a plan.
Most of Brother Hao’s men were injured by that punk, so they obviously couldn’t go along. Lei De thought about it and told Brother Hao to take the injured to the hospital first.
"You guys don’t have to go. Check your injuries at the hospital first, Tie Niu, hurry up and gather everyone you can right now, then come with me to Yingfeng Shanyuan!"
"Yes! Brother De, I’ll go call them now. Should I prepare the equipment?" The nearby big guy named Tie Niu nodded quickly and asked.
Lei De’s face turned grim as he nodded, and Tie Niu instantly understood, rushing off to get busy.
In Xiakan Village, Wu Jun and Huo Sining, along with Wu Ya, were quite at ease in the guard room. Huo Sining took out two bags of snacks from her backpack, and the three of them started eating.
The old man guard nearby was surprised to see the three of them acting so carefree, completely unaware of the impending disaster, but the next second he couldn’t help but shake his head vigorously.
Truly fearless are the ignorant; these outsiders must have nerves of steel to be so fearless, not realizing who Brother De is.
But they have really stirred up trouble this time, daring to mess with a tiger’s head. With Brother De’s temper, if he doesn’t cripple these three, he wouldn’t be called Brother De.
The old guard looked at these ignorant fellows with pity, as if he were looking at dead men.
Wu Jun took a few bites of the snacks and inadvertently noticed the guard’s expression, causing a smirk to appear on his lips. Curiously, he turned his head and asked:
"Sir, you’re not from Xiakan Village, right? How come you’re working as a guard here?"
The old guard’s lips twitched; these people truly are ignorant to even want to chat with him.
The old man lazily rolled his eyes at Wu Jun, completely unwilling to respond.
Wu Jun didn’t mind and chuckled, pulling out a pack of Zhonghua cigarettes from his pocket, taking one out and handing it to the old man, before asking again:
"Sir, how much salary do you make working here? Are the old men and women working in the tea garden paid well?"
The old man accepted the Zhonghua cigarette from Wu Jun, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth before glancing up at Wu Jun:
"Oh, Zhonghua, huh? Kid’s living well! Where do you work?"
Seeing that Wu Jun didn’t answer, the old man didn’t push further. He lit the cigarette with a lighter, taking a deep puff and exhaling a cloud of smoke, then said with a smile:
"The whole tea garden belongs to Brother De, do you think salaries would be high? These are all farmers from Xiakan Village; for Brother De to even notice them, they should be grateful. Would they dare to haggle? At least working here means those troublemakers won’t harass their families."
Saying this, the old man’s expression seemed somewhat uneasy, indicating even he found it hard to speak of those thugs causing trouble in the village.
Huo Sining recalled those thugs speaking obscenely, claiming to have had their way with widows and underage girls in the village, and her eyes couldn’t hide her anger.
The old man, initially quite arrogant because he thought he had Brother De backing him, seemed to have awakened some conscience after receiving a Zhonghua cigarette from Wu Jun:
"I’m from neighboring Dawu Village, originally worked as a handyman under Brother De at a bathhouse. Once I got older and couldn’t work there, I was transferred here when the tea garden was built."
"You outsiders don’t know Brother De’s power, which is why you dare to provoke him like this. But look around, who here has as much courage as you guys?"
"I’m not trying to scare you, Brother De isn’t as simple as you imagine. Years ago, he was in Gangcheng. He’s been involved in gambling, drugs, and prostitution, even worked under a big shot in Guangcheng. His means are ruthless, and you probably can’t count the murder cases he’s involved in with one hand."
"So you’d better not sit here idly. Hurry and take advantage of the fact that those people haven’t arrived yet and escape! If you wait till they come, it’ll be too late."
Huo Sining was shocked to hear the old man say this Brother De actually had murder cases on his head, her pupils contracted, and she instinctively turned to look at Wu Jun beside her.
Wu Jun was also stunned, his expression solemn, realizing the gravity of the situation, and he couldn’t help but curiously ask:
"Sir, if Brother De is so terrifying, and actually killed someone, wouldn’t that be a major crime? Hasn’t anyone pursued his criminal culpability?"
The old man scoffed: "You’re being naive with that question. He’s the local Emperor of Luohua County. Many of the businesses he owns are taxpayers; would these officials ruin their careers by taking down such a big fish who boosts their achievements?"
"Besides, Brother De has deep connections, iron bonds with several bureau chiefs. With them backing him, who can touch him?"
Wu Jun was simply shocked. They had imagined there might be plenty of dark and dirty dealings locally, but they hadn’t considered even such matters could be concealed. This was too brazen.
"What about the killings you mentioned? Did he actually kill people?" Huo Sining was particularly concerned about this.
Previously, when she heard Boss De was forcibly buying and occupying the forests and bullying villagers with thugs, she had already resolved to severely teach Boss De a lesson.
But if this person was involved in murder cases, it would be a more serious matter than just teaching a lesson, prompting careful attention.
The old man seemed to realize he’d said too much, his heart skipping a beat, instinctively changing the subject:
"Oh, why am I telling you all this? Anyway, everyone says so; who knows what’s true or false."
Noticing the fear and unease in the old man’s eyes, Huo Sining could speculate on his caution and dilemma.
It’s understandable, as such matters are known to all, yet no one would dare spread controversies on Brother De’s turf.
If nothing happens, it’s fine, but if something indeed arises, and this attracts Brother De’s attention, with his vindictive and ruthless tactics, he’d certainly make this old man suffer terribly.
Thus, the old man dared not speak, and Huo Sining couldn’t keep pressing.
After hearing the old man’s words, Huo Sining realized the escalation of the situation and, reversing her former nonchalance, exchanged a look with Wu Jun, determining their next step.
Huo Sining headed straight for the exit, standing by the iron gate, and pulled out her phone to call Gu Xu.
