Chapter 1761: Chapter 1323: Comparing Myself to Yesterday_4
Yang Fan: "Makes sense."
Another researcher chimed in: "It really does. Whenever Comrade Kang came to the institute, the team leader always left work right on time."
Seeing Wen Siyuan head toward the door, He Wei and the other researchers who hadn’t left yet said goodbye and then followed Wen Siyuan: "Why didn’t you call me?"
"You were talking with Xiao Yang and the others."
Wen Siyuan replied casually.
"You could’ve called me anyway!"
The two walked side by side, and He Wei said: "With our tight relationship, you don’t invite me to eat, doesn’t your conscience hurt?"
"No."
Wen Siyuan answered without hesitation.
"Old Wen, you... you hurt me!"
He Wei pulled a sombre face on purpose: "How could you do this?"
"Can you stop messing with me?"
Wen Siyuan glanced at He Wei, looking a bit headache: "I really don’t have the energy to banter with you."
Hearing that, He Wei fell quiet. After a while, he said: "How long has it been, you still haven’t moved on?"
Wen Siyuan knew exactly what He Wei meant, but he didn’t want to say much.
He Wei: "It’s just women anyway. With your conditions, finding another one shouldn’t be hard at all."
To be honest, He Wei had never thought Wen Siyuan would get divorced again. Divorce isn’t a good thing—once is already embarrassing enough, who would just ignore their own image and get divorced twice?
But just his luck, he ended up with Wen Siyuan as an example right next to him.
Life was fine, but suddenly he divorced his wife Song Ning, then married a young girl—made everyone envious—and in the end, wound up getting divorced again.
He Wei didn’t really get what Wen Siyuan was thinking, honestly he couldn’t see through him.
Especially when Wen Siyuan decided to divorce Song Ning, He Wei thought Wen Siyuan must have lost his mind, insisting on ending a marriage with such an ideal wife and mother.
But, though they were close, divorce was Wen Siyuan’s private business. As a colleague and friend, he’d tried to persuade him, but Wen Siyuan wouldn’t listen.
Recalling what he’d said when he tried to talk Wen Siyuan out of it, He Wei couldn’t help but go silent.
Every family has its troubles—maybe there were things he didn’t know, so that’s why Wen Siyuan chose divorce again.
To avoid losing a friend, He Wei decided not to bring up the topic Wen Siyuan didn’t want to discuss anymore.
"I’m not thinking about finding anyone else."
Wen Siyuan’s voice carried no emotion: "Everyone has their fate. I’m not as lucky as the team leader—able to marry someone like Comrade Kang, who cares for her family, for her husband and kids. Since marriage has become a burden to me, being single for the rest of my life isn’t so bad."
He Wei: "Comrade Kang is great, but it’s not easy finding a woman like her."
"No, it’s not easy. That’s why I said I’m not as lucky as the team leader." Wen Siyuan smiled bitterly. "Don’t laugh at me, but I really regret divorcing Song Ning. Back then it was like my heart was clouded with lard—my mom nagged at me twice and I just stubbornly insisted on the divorce, completely ignoring how much Song Ning didn’t want to leave the kids, and went through with it anyway."
He Wei comforted him: "Marriage isn’t just one person’s business. If your relationship wasn’t working, or there were other issues so you had to divorce, don’t blame yourself."
But Wen Siyuan shook his head: "No, with Song Ning, it wasn’t bad feelings, and there wasn’t some big conflict. It was my fault. I nitpicked every little thing, just didn’t want to stay married to her. She never did a thing wrong. It’s a shame... a shame I realized too late! Then I married Su Man, and again it was me misjudging people, which made the marriage fail a second time. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if my second marriage falling apart was punishment for what I did in my first."
"You’re thinking way too much! It’s a new era, we’re not into old superstitions!"
He Wei patted Wen Siyuan’s shoulder lightly and laughed: "Troubles will pass, just like after storms there might not be a rainbow, but after darkness there’s always daylight."
The chicken soup made Wen Siyuan pause, then after a moment he glanced at He Wei and said: "What if I never make it through the night?"
"Old Wen, now you’re just being argumentative!"
He Wei chuckled and played it off.
Wen Siyuan: "But thanks anyway, always trying to comfort me. Must be exhausting."
He Wei raised his brows and smiled: "Don’t be so formal! We’re like brothers, I can’t just watch you mope every day."
As they chatted and walked to the dorm building, they saw Luo Yanqing holding a lunchbox in one hand, and Kang Li’s hand in the other, coming out from inside.
He Wei greeted Luo Yanqing first, then turned his gaze to Kang Li: "Comrade Kang, you’re here?!"
Hearing that, Kang Li smiled and nodded, "Yeah."
Wen Siyuan nodded at Kang Li, Kang Li nodded back. That counted as a greeting between them.
"Cold?"
After Wen Siyuan and He Wei went inside, Luo Yanqing slipped Kang Li’s hand into the pocket of his coat: "Want to wait back in the dorm?"
"No."
Kang Li shook her head, the smile lingering in her clear gentle eyes: "I want to walk with you."
