Chapter 277 - Two Hundred Seventy-Seven: The Gap
Chapter 277: Chapter Two Hundred Seventy-Seven: The Gap
Ban Xiaobo and Xu Chao did indeed have this in mind.
Although their need for gasoline wasn’t significant, when repairing or selling cars to others, they still needed to add some fuel to the vehicles. By now, the gas at the stations had long been depleted by others, so they had no choice but to resort to this method, siphoning whatever amount they could.
The three of them had clear responsibilities, with Ban Xiaobo and Rong Yuan drawing oil into barrels, while Xu Chao was using his Space Element Ability to collect the ready cars one by one into his space.
Xu Chao’s pace in collecting the cars into his space was slow, probably because the cars were relatively large. Su Jin and the others noticed that it took a full two minutes with his hand on each car before it disappeared.
After repeating the process, Xu Chao had only collected four cars before he started feeling weak and drained. He couldn’t help but sigh, finding that gathering items was somehow more tiring than fighting zombies!
However, remembering what had been mentioned in previous base lectures—that Space Element Ability Users initially find it strenuous to collect items but that it gradually becomes easier with continued adaptation—he wasn’t discouraged.
…
Instead, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and kept on collecting into his space.
With about 100 square meters of space, he could only fit eight vehicles before it was full, but this result had already made Ban Xiaobo quite elated.
To think that even if all five of them went out, they would only manage to collect four or five cars at best, but today they had gathered some of the better-functioning vehicles here, as well as siphoning two big barrels of gasoline.
This venture was incredibly worthwhile!
Xu Chao also experienced the joy of being a Space Element Ability User.
After collecting the cars, even though it was Ban Xiaobo and Rong Yuan who had to support him as they walked back, Xu Chao’s face was adorned with a satisfied smile, marveling at how he had managed to collect eight cars all by himself…
After returning, he was certain to make those people call him “big brother.”
At the moment, Su Jin and her group were leaning against their vehicle, drinking water. Seeing Xu Chao with a look of weakness, Su Jin generously asked Lu Hao to also take out a bottle of water from the car and pass it to him.
“Drink some water, you’ll feel better,” Lu Hao said as he handed the water to Xu Chao.
“Thank you,” Xu Chao replied, sincerely grateful. Hanging out with the bosses meant there was food to eat.
By this time, Han Xiao and her group had also finished off all the zombies they had followed here.
Jian Zongzheng had once again sealed the parking lot’s gate with his Metal Element Ability, for the occasional stray zombie made it impossible for them to rest for even a moment.
Xia Mufei lay exhausted in the back seat, having killed only five zombies just now—a record number for him. He even felt like he had overachieved beyond his normal capabilities.
The thick billowing smoke from fires not far away still carried a hint of burnt scent that everyone could smell.
Nobody among those present had expected the group would clear the site before leaving. Indeed, the pungent smell of the mutant animals’ blood was very strong—if left unattended, it might attract other things as well.
They sure were responsible…
“It looks like they’re about to leave,” Yin Qiu remarked, sipping water. He noticed the group gradually getting into their cars, apparently getting ready to leave the area.
Inside the three armored vehicles, once everyone got in, they couldn’t help leaning back into the seats immediately. Even the always energetic Liao Yifan was feeling particularly exhausted.
Unknowingly, they had been fighting continuously for four hours. Observing how weary everyone was, Su Jin decided that was enough for the day. It was better to return to the base early and rest.
Before driving out of the parking lot, Su Jin hesitated for a moment before instructing Su Xiangzhe to stop.
“Dad, I’m going to say goodbye,” Su Jin said.
Su Xiangzhe nodded his head, bringing the vehicle to a halt while Lu Hao, worried about Han Xiao’s lack of discipline, followed Su Jin out of the car.
Lin Cheng, seeing the vehicle in front halt, immediately understood what was happening. Indeed, he was worried about Xia Mufei—the youngster’s first mission with the team might have held them back. With this thought, Lin Cheng also pushed the car door open and stepped out.
Jian Zongzheng and the others had already stood up, surprised that Su Jin and her group were coming over to bid them farewell before departure.
“Hey, Su Jin,”
Anna, with a blush rising to her cheeks like a fan meeting their idol, called out to Su Jin as she approached with a smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
Noting that Anna and her original team had shrunk from five to four, Su Jin roughly guessed what had happened, but out of tacit understanding, she didn’t ask.
“What a coincidence today, have you completed your tasks?” Su Jin asked with a smile.
“Yeah, we only took on a mission for 20 mutated zombies, and we’ve finished it,” Anna replied.
Su Jin nodded, it looked like they had reaped a good harvest, but she still kindly warned, “It’s not safe here anymore, better dig up the crystal cores and leave soon.”
“Okay, thanks for the warning,”
Jian Zongzheng said, as they were also preparing to leave after excavating the crystal cores.
Su Jin’s gaze shifted to Xia Mufei, who was chatting with Lin Cheng. Although Xia Mufei looked tired, he didn’t seem to be seriously troubled.
But Xia Ying, standing beside him, appeared not to show any signs of fatigue at all.
“You, young man, keep up the good work, Uncle has his eyes on you!”
Lin Cheng grinned and patted Xia Mufei’s shoulder.
“Thanks, Uncle Lin, where are you guys heading next?” Xia Mufei asked excitedly, touched by Uncle Lin’s kindness.
“Mission accomplished, we’re planning to head back to base,”
Lin Cheng said, as it was already past noon and even rushing back would get them to the base by afternoon.
“Then we won’t hold you up, see you later,”
Su Jin said with a smile, waved goodbye to everyone, and then turned to board the vehicle.
Lu Hao gave Han Xiao a glance as the three of them huddled by the car window, observing the others engaging in casual, lively chatter…
Why did they all seem to know each other and get along so well?
But now they dared not speak or ask anything.
Lu Hao’s cold stare was enough to send shivers through Han Xiao; this was the man who had just slaughtered that gigantic monster. Had he lost his mind last time when he provoked trouble?
The sight of those three had Lin Xiuyuan and the others in the car in stitches.
“Hahaha, those guys completely chickened out the moment they saw the brother-in-law, they were so tough before, I’m dying of laughter,” Lin Xiuyuan laughed, slapping his thigh.
“It’s actually funny how those people managed to come together to form a team,”
Lu Guanhai said, curious about how they had ended up together.
Outside the car, Mao Zhihang used his Metal Element Ability to open the gate, just as a dozen zombies came rushing towards them.
As Su Jin walked toward the vehicle, a dozen vines appeared behind her, lashing out at the zombies!
Roar!
Ten zombies were simultaneously impaled through their heads, and Mao Zhihang’s Metal Element blades decapitated the two remaining ones!
The moment the vines withdrew, they also extracted the crystal cores from the zombies’ skulls. Though some zombies hadn’t yet formed crystal cores, together they totaled about ten.
Lin Tianzhen, in perfect sync, stepped out of the car to clean the crystal cores with her Water Element Ability.
The others behind watched the scene in astonishment; a dozen zombies in less than a minute?
It seemed they still had a long way to go…
