Chapter 2049 - 2047: The Strange Woman
Chapter 2049: Chapter 2047: The Strange Woman
In the blink of an eye, time passed, and Qin Yize boarded the train to Jinling City with his wife and children. They had bought soft sleeper tickets, and Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei were happily running back and forth in the train corridor.
There is a special tolerance everyone has for beautiful things, and these two adorable children, like little dumplings, were loved by all.
Not to mention that Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei were articulate and extraordinarily polite.
They also noticed the children’s parents, indeed a perfect pair, probably the most well-matched couple in the world.
Gu Qiaoqiao and Qin Yize were long used to such gazes, as they sat on the lower berth whispering to each other.
Outside the train window, the land was desolate, a vast expanse of silver white. Most of the leaves had fallen from the trees, leaving only barren branches swaying in the cold wind.
This is the winter of the Northern land.
The only green should be the evergreen pine trees.
Nonetheless, this train carriage was quite lively.
Xiao Bao and Xiao Bei showed no signs of fear. Even though they ran in the aisle, they never interfered with the adults walking, which made some travelers really fond of them.
There was a woman in her thirties sitting on a lower berth near the soft sleeper carriage door, looking somewhat enviously at the two children.
The woman had a pleasant appearance, dressed simply and elegantly, evidently an intellectual.
Since boarding, she had focused all her attention on these two kids. She had never seen such adorable babies before. How wonderful it would be if these two children were hers, or if just one of them was hers, she would have no regrets in this life.
She let out a long sigh.
And tried hard to suppress the greedy thoughts that crept into her mind.
She saw the children’s parents, young, the man handsome, the woman beautiful. It was clear their relationship was very good. These are someone else’s children, what was she thinking?
The woman forced herself to turn her gaze to the train window.
Yet her heart couldn’t find peace.
The train continued forward.
The carriage gradually quieted down as well.
The woman leaned against the seat, watching the rapidly passing scenery outside. Her confused and muddled eyes gradually cleared up, a faint smile appeared on her lips. This isn’t too bad either.
Without children, there would be no need to worry about them in the future.
Besides, her husband never said anything, and they were still as loving as before. Her parents-in-law never pressured her, and never even mentioned the word ’children’ in front of her. She didn’t wish for anything anymore, nothing at all. She would dedicate her life to her beloved aerospace career.
Accepting this made her feel better and she felt guilty for her fleeting thoughts earlier.
But at that moment, a girl dressed in a pink sweater, white vest, pink pants and pink shoes, looking like a little princess, stood in front of her.
Raising her head, observing her.
The woman was surprised but couldn’t help but smile. Her voice softened, even without her noticing, "Little girl, what do you want to do?"
She knew this little girl was one of the twins she had envied earlier.
She had watched them run back and forth earlier, but up close she realized just how incredibly cute this little girl truly was.
Curved eyebrows, big, bright eyes, a fair and tender little face, looking like she was about three years old, unbearably adorable, especially when she tilted her head to look at her. The woman’s heart melted into a puddle.
She wanted to reach out and touch the little girl’s head, but after thinking about it, she restrained herself. Such a pampered girl, judging by her parents, they were no ordinary folks, from a wealthy or prestigious family. Such an action from a stranger would arouse suspicion or distaste.
She didn’t want to leave a bad impression in the little girl’s mind.
Instead, her smile grew wider, her eyes nearly narrowing to slits with her smile. Xiao Bei thought this auntie looked so kind.
She extended her right hand in front of the auntie, then opened her palm. In Xiao Bei’s palm was a coffee-colored candy ball, which her mother had given her. Xiao Bei, articulate as ever, mimicked speech word for word, "Auntie, this is a liquor-filled chocolate, it’s very tasty, how about you have it?"
The woman was visibly stunned for a moment, then with a happy smile, she declined, "Little friend, auntie doesn’t eat this, but you’re a child, so you shouldn’t eat this liquor candy either, and too much candy isn’t good for your teeth."
After saying this, she felt a bit regretful, wondering why she would prattle so. Ordinarily, she was a reserved and reticent person, even her students were a bit afraid of her. Was she now like a wolf-grandmother in a fairy tale?
The woman felt a little awkward, as if this wasn’t something she should have said.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Bei nodded in agreement, "Auntie is right, that’s what my mother tells me too."
Then she opened her mouth to show off her teeth to the woman, "Even though I will change my teeth later, they will still be white, because I only eat a limited amount of candy. This liquor-filled chocolate is for auntie to eat, not for me."
She then offered it forward again, the woman hesitated. In the small, fair palm lay the coffee-colored liquor-filled chocolate, round, somehow looking particularly tempting.
Moreover, it was given to her by a little girl. Perhaps eating it would bring some luck.
She really wanted to hold the child in her arms and cherish her, but she resisted, since this was someone else’s child, she was a stranger, and should not touch.
Such a clean child, her parents surely had high standards for her.
So she pushed down her thoughts.
She reached out her hand, not letting Xiao Bei hold it up too long, and picked up the chocolate.
Xiao Bei cheerfully said, "Auntie, eat it!"
The woman felt a bit embarrassed, holding the chocolate felt awkward, eating a child’s offering didn’t seem right, especially being thirty years old.
Xiao Bei didn’t care about that, it was a task assigned by her mom. She continued to urge, "Auntie, you have to eat it because only then can I leave..."
Hearing Xiao Bei say this, the woman didn’t hesitate further and put the chocolate in her mouth. After biting into it, it didn’t taste like she expected, like alcohol.
Some chocolates have a bit of alcohol, with a rich aroma and are delicious.
Actually, she didn’t mind that, but it didn’t mean she liked it.
Yet, this chocolate had no alcohol taste, instead, it carried a certain indescribable flavor.
This flavor wasn’t something you smelled, it was something you felt.
