Chapter 1928 - 1926: Egg Drop Congee
Chapter 1928: Chapter 1926: Egg Drop Congee
Gu Qiaoqiao added three drops of Spirit Spring Water to the porridge, and its aroma immediately spread.
Not only did it smell good, but it also tasted better.
They spent this night in the forest, the two of them nestled together, occasionally chatting.
The night was deep; nocturnal animals occasionally darted around outside the tent, and the wind brushed through the treetops, making it seem as if they were isolated from the noisy world.
The young couple entwined for a while and then fell into a deep sleep.
They got up very early the next day, tidied up briefly, washed their hands and faces by a nearby stream, and being able to have hot soup, noodles, and rice porridge while traveling was quite nice; in the morning, they still made egg drop porridge.
In fact, they had quite a lot of food in the car trunk for the trip, but they couldn’t take it all; Qin Yize packed all he could carry into his large backpack.
So now, the space had over ten pounds of rice, a dozen eggs in an iron box, two bundles of noodles, plus twenty sausages and specially prepared packets of seasoning in plastic bags.
Actually, these already took up a third of the large backpack. Along with water and other items, it was quite full, but now it all fit into the space, just a small pile.
Gu Qiaoqiao thought, if she had trained the space before entering the swamp, the things in the trunk could have been loaded inside, and maybe the whole car too.
Gu Qiaoqiao added two more sausages to the egg drop porridge; after all, Qin Yize was a man, and while it was fine to eat this at night, he would definitely be hungry in the morning.
She additionally cooked a pot of noodles for Qin Yize; the two ate every bit clean.
After tidying up, the items were placed back into the space, and Gu Qiaoqiao thought she should put some shelves in there; otherwise, just piling things around decreased the space’s elegance.
Led by the Sika Deer, Qin Yize and Gu Qiaoqiao continued moving forward in the forest, and by noon, they finally reached Gu Junbai’s gold mine.
This was a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides; the gold mine was inside the valley, which was slightly lower in elevation, and a river gently flowed around it.
Then they heard the chattering of foreigners up ahead.
Qin Yize translated for Gu Qiaoqiao, and as she listened, she simultaneously cast Invisibility Talismans on both the Sika Deer and Qin Yize.
Gu Qiaoqiao looked at the leader, an older man, not very tall, with a vicious glint in his eyes, clearly not a kind person.
No one knew how they discovered this place, but right now, that wasn’t important; what mattered was that they were pouring the contents of a bucket repeatedly onto a spot, and the smell was foul, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.
It wasn’t necessarily black dog blood used in the Mystic Sect to ward off evil, but it was definitely the blood of some other animal.
It’s hard to say how these people came up with this method; surely someone knowledgeable was guiding them.
Gu Qiaoqiao pondered how to drive these people away.
After all, there were many of them, and while they wouldn’t necessarily lose in a fight, it would cause unnecessary trouble.
If only Xiao Bai were here; being a Divine Beast, it could summon the forest’s predators to scare these people away.
But looking at their weapons set aside, Gu Qiaoqiao thought that might not be a good idea. Such weapons weren’t regulated here; individuals could own them, so if predators really came, these people might not be scared off.
Moreover, these people were quite capable; the first layer of the Barrier was about to be breached.
Gu Qiaoqiao whispered to Qin Yize, "I’ll set up a Barrier to hold them off for now."
Qin Yize frowned slightly.
After a few breaths, he spoke, "Let’s quietly enter from the other side. We didn’t bring tools anyway, so even if they weren’t here, we couldn’t retrieve most of the gold nuggets buried underground. Let’s temporarily store the gold nuggets we can get in the space."
Gu Qiaoqiao’s eyes lit up; yes, that was a good idea.
Gu Qiaoqiao patted the Sika Deer on its head and instructed it telepathically, "Little Deer, let’s enter from another place in a moment, don’t make any sound."
Footsteps weren’t an issue, but Gu Qiaoqiao was worried about the Sika Deer accidentally making noise if anything unexpected happened.
Because currently, Gu Qiaoqiao couldn’t be sure if the Invisibility Talisman could truly isolate the sound of spiritually intelligent animals.
Walking in the forest was fine, as this was a forest after all, with wildlife coming and going. If they couldn’t see you, they wouldn’t suspect, but making a noise would give away the location.
"Don’t worry, I won’t make a sound."
Gu Qiaoqiao and Qin Yize exchanged a glance, and Gu Qiaoqiao, to be safe, set up another Barrier around the three of them, then silently headed in another direction.
About a few hundred meters away from those people was a shrub, which they slipped through, thus entering the Barrier.
Gu Qiaoqiao casually set another Barrier, but unlike clothing, where wearing one versus ten makes a big difference, sometimes one Barrier set up afterwards has the same effect as ten.
Gu Qiaoqiao had refined her Portable Space and learned the Heaven-reaching Talisman, but neither had offensive capabilities for now.
The Sika Deer had become gentler too; protecting themselves was good enough, but they had to figure out a way to slow these people down.
Suddenly, Gu Qiaoqiao remembered her Ice Arrow Talisman; how could she forget this important tool?
She could release the Ice Arrow Talisman!
Gu Qiaoqiao’s slightly furrowed brows relaxed instantly, and Qin Yize knew she must have thought of a solution. Then indeed, he saw her start to draw Talismans in the air, one Ice Arrow Talisman after another appearing before them.
While drawing, Gu Qiaoqiao guided the Ice Arrow Talismans to strike at those dismantling the Barrier.
Then, the few who were busily engaged suddenly slowed down; the Ice Arrow Talismans had taken effect, causing their bodies to become stiffer and colder. Though they would recover after some rest, not now—some were already hugging themselves and shivering, glancing at each other.
Strangely, two of them simultaneously glanced at one of the iron buckets.
At this moment, they all halted; some squatted, some hugged themselves, trembling. Just as Gu Qiaoqiao was about to leave with Qin Yize and head inside, she suddenly heard those people start speaking in trembling voices.
Gu Qiaoqiao couldn’t understand, so she looked up at Qin Yize.
Qin Yize started out with a leisurely expression, his demeanor serene, but as he listened, his face darkened, and he cast a sharp glance at those people.
