Chapter 1907 - 1905: Descending the Mountain
Chapter 1907: Chapter 1905: Descending the Mountain
And anyway, who can say for sure what’ll happen in the future? This place used to be a land of great feng shui, but this flash flood still inevitably did some damage here.
Maybe later they’d find another suitable place, because this place just isn’t what it used to be anymore. Like Xiao Wen said, before, there wasn’t a soul within a thousand miles; it was a true Imaginary land of joy and plenty. But now there were more and more people at the foot of the mountain, some even starting to destroy the forest to build houses. If this went on, their territory would only keep shrinking, and the chances of being discovered would only keep getting higher. Invisibly, this place was becoming less and less safe.
Gu Qiaoqiao nodded at that.
Qin Yize, however, stopped talking about the Phoenix Clan. Instead he pulled Gu Qiaoqiao into his arms, his handsome brows lifting slightly as he said in a low voice, "What are you doing out here? Isn’t it better to rest inside?"
"I don’t feel at ease with you out here alone."
Qin Yize let out a low laugh, his mood instantly brightening. His wife really couldn’t bear to leave him by himself. He teased, "What, you’re afraid some Mountain Spirits and Water Monsters will grab me away?"
Gu Qiaoqiao raised an eyebrow, her voice tinged with laughter. "Yeah, you’re so handsome and good-looking. If those Mountain Spirits and Water Monsters saw a catch like you, they’d definitely want to snatch you back to be their husband..."
Qin Yize reached out and tapped his wife’s forehead with a finger, amused. "You’re really spinning tales here. If there really were Mountain Spirits and Water Monsters, with my Mystic Spirit Gun, one bullet and it’s done."
"Oh come on, you’re really not one to pity the fair. They say Mountain Spirits and Water Monsters are supposed to be super pretty." Gu Qiaoqiao’s brows curved and eyes smiled, her voice carrying a hint of playful complaint.
"What, Qiaoqiao, you want me to pity the fair? Then should I maybe give it a try?"
Qin Yize’s low, pleasant voice floated lazily in the rain cover of the kayak.
Gu Qiaoqiao giggled, reached out to pinch him hard at his soft spot, then lifted her chin at Qin Yize in triumph.
The night was deep, and the kayak that had been drifting on the shallow water suddenly came to a stop.
Gu Qiaoqiao stuck her head out to look, but no matter how good her eyesight was, she couldn’t see a thing in the pitch-black. Just then Qin Yize picked up the flashlight and shone it outside, and only then did they realize the water on the ground had all receded.
Fortunately, there weren’t many people living here, so there wasn’t too much household trash. As for the carcasses of the small animals that hadn’t made it out in time and were drowned, who knew where they’d been washed away to. Right now the spot they were in was originally a wide open area paved with bluestone slabs, and at the moment the ground actually looked quite clean.
Both of them were wearing specially made high-waisted rain boots. After all, they were outside; even though the water was no longer deep, they hadn’t taken them off. But now it was obvious they didn’t need them anymore. No matter how good high-waisted rain boots were, they just didn’t breathe.
After a long time, your feet felt really stifled.
When the water outside finally receded completely, Qin Yize secretly let out a breath of relief. He quickly leaned over and untied the laces on Gu Qiaoqiao’s rain boots, then helped his wife take off the high-waisted boots, and then took off his own.
Their feet, which had been suffocated for several hours, were finally freed.
Qin Yize’s brows drew together briefly, then slowly relaxed.
He glanced at his little wife beside him, thinking that as long as he could be with Qiaoqiao, any environment would turn beautiful.
He put both pairs of rain boots at the bow of the kayak, then picked up a towel and carefully wiped the area down. After that he took a military blanket out of the backpack and spread it out, making a small, warm, cozy little nest where they could rest.
Now the problems were solved, the water had gone down, and the two kids were doing great in the world inside the painting. When Gu Qiaoqiao left, she’d pulled the curtains tightly shut, making the room just like nighttime, so their babies could keep their normal biological clocks.
But they couldn’t stay in there forever either.
Qin Yize pulled Gu Qiaoqiao into his arms and said in a low voice, "Tomorrow you take the kids down the mountain first. I’ve already bought a courtyard down there. Fifth Brother stayed behind, it’s all set up. Once I’ve finished dealing with things here, we’ll go back to the Imperial Capital together."
This arrangement of Qin Yize’s was really good. Gu Qiaoqiao quickly nodded. "Okay, we’ll head down the mountain tomorrow morning."
Things went much more smoothly after that.
The mountain paths in the forest were particularly muddy, but without the kids it was much easier. In the really muddy sections, Qin Yize carried Gu Qiaoqiao on his back. Both of them were wearing waterproof clothing and high-waisted rain boots, so when they got to the foot of the mountain and took off their raincoats and boots, at least everything underneath was nice and dry.
The house Qin Yize had bought was at the foot of the mountain, a standalone building, newly built last year.
The one who’d stayed there was a distant cousin from the Qin Family, whom Gu Qiaoqiao called Fifth Brother.
When they first reached the foot of the mountain, Qin Yize and Gu Qiaoqiao quietly took their two still-sleeping children out. Xiao Bai and the White Wolf followed behind. Sima Xiaowen was of course also wearing high-waisted rain boots, so this short stretch of mountain road wasn’t a problem for her either.
So by the time they arrived at the house, everything felt completely natural. They put the two still-sleeping children into a bedroom; by then it was already past eight in the morning.
Sima Xiaowen ate breakfast, then hurried back to the Divine Land. Once Qin Yize had stayed behind and gotten everything arranged there, he took Xiao Bai and headed to the Phoenix Clan Divine Land.
After lunch, Gu Qiaoqiao took her two energetic kids and strolled around the town.
The flood at Phoenix Lake hadn’t really affected this place. It seemed that in one of the mountain valleys the water had turned a corner and gone somewhere else, so the people here still didn’t know what had happened up in the mountains.
It was just that there were some drowned small animals in the little river at the foot of the mountain, which were discovered by people out for their early morning walk, and that set off a wave of gossip.
But since no one had died, the matter didn’t blow up too much. Still, this town, though small, was packed with people, and any little thing spread like wildfire. So within just one day, they’d already circulated several different versions of the story.
After listening, Gu Qiaoqiao couldn’t help but admire these people’s extraordinary imagination.
Then someone even described, full of dramatic flair, how they’d seen two dragons fighting in the sky last night, one black, one white.
They supposedly churned up the rivers and seas, with mighty waves roiling in the Da Jiang and all the big rivers, and that’s how this whole thing had happened.
They made it sound so detailed and vivid, even claiming they’d seen it with their own eyes.
Which is why, as long as the Phoenix Clan Divine Land stayed this mysterious, it was still fine. But if one day it was discovered by humans, that would be a truly earthshaking event.
Very soon, Qin Yize used his connections to help the Phoenix Clan successfully get this stretch of forest land officially approved.
In the eyes of the personnel who went into the mountains to measure the land and survey the usable area, this was just a desolate patch of wilderness. So the associated paperwork went through very quickly, and the usage rights were set for seventy years.
