Chapter 843: Be Careful
Chapter 843: Chapter 843: Be Careful
The vehicles slowly came to a halt.
Before anyone even got out, a thick, fishy stench rushed straight at them.
This smell was something the Superpower Users would never forget again, like falling into a pit full of rotting compost, with the sensation of decayed flesh stuffing both nose and eyes.
At a glance, there were Zombies everywhere around them; you couldn’t even tell there had ever been any zombie seafood on the beach.
The beach could no longer be called a beach; everywhere was black-brown muck—that was blood and sand mixed together into some kind of substance.
There was quite a bit of flesh mixed in.
The Zombies’ bellies were bulging as they stood on the ground, eyes dull, faces and hands covered in scratches from all kinds of sharp objects.
Their whole bodies were pitch-black; it was hard to imagine that so much black blood could still ooze from Zombies that had already decayed.
In the few minutes after the vehicles stopped, no one got off.
No one knew whether they were more afraid of the Zombie horde around them, or of the rolling waves out at sea.
The first truck to unload was the one with Captain Zhang and the Base Commander.
The Superpower Users sharing that truck with the Base Commander could only grit their teeth and get off too.
If they didn’t know how powerful the Base Commander and Captain Zhang were, you couldn’t have paid them to get off.
With this many Zombies, if each one just spat once, they could drown them.
"Right now they’re our reinforcements. Everyone, get down."
When Captain Zhang spoke, his voice was clearly very soft, yet it carried through the air into everyone’s ears.
The gentle voice exploded oddly beside their ears.
Like someone leaning right up to your ear to talk.
Bai Xiqin rubbed at the goosebumps on her arm and discovered another of Captain Zhang’s Superpowers.
A Sound Transmission–type ability—those legendary skills weren’t actually nonexistent, it was just that no one had awakened them.
Seeing that the ones who’d just gotten off the trucks weren’t attacked by the Zombies, the rest gritted their teeth and climbed down too.
A few especially timid ones didn’t dare get off at all, planning to hole up in the trucks forever.
But with the strongest Captain Zhang and the Base Commander down below, if they didn’t go down, even copper skin and iron bones wouldn’t save them from this endless sea of Zombies.
Not to mention that these trucks, which looked safe enough, would barely move on the beach without the ice layer.
After weighing the pros and cons, every Superpower User got off the trucks.
The Bai Family had just gotten off when they saw Captain Zhang throwing a meaningful look their way.
He wanted Leng Yebai to come over.
The three of them standing together in a fight would be quite the sight.
They’d bring glory to humankind.
But Leng Yebai acted like he hadn’t seen the signal at all, calmly staying at Bai Xiqin’s side.
He squinted toward the black sea.
The waves stirred up by the seawater were incredibly massive, and from time to time the swells rolled the Zombies on the beach, together with the black mud-sand underfoot, back into the sea.
The Zombie horde still couldn’t block the black sea and that colossal behemoth behind it.
"Th-Those... what are those monsters?!"
"My god! With Zombies that huge, can we even win?"
"...Why did we have to come here?"
"We couldn’t have just run earlier?"
"We can’t run anymore... we’re all gonna die..."
The Superpower Users who’d gotten off hadn’t even started fighting yet, and their already not-so-tough hearts were squeezed tight in an instant.
The world under the sea was a hundred times more terrifying than they’d imagined.
Just one vaguely visible tentacle from that gigantic zombie octopus could smack a multi-ton truck flying.
"Don’t be afraid. Hold this last clean land of the shore together with the Zombies."
No one knew when Captain Zhang had appeared at Leng Yebai’s side; before speaking, he even tugged Leng Yebai closer to him.
His momentum was firm and forceful, but the Superpower Users’ legs were still trembling.
The timid ones had already plopped down on the ground, their butts covered in black mud-sand, but that no longer mattered.
They really couldn’t stand.
"Rooaaar—"
The Zombie horde suddenly erupted in a roar, then hurled themselves into the black seawater like cannonballs.
They vanished beneath the waves, using their small bodies to fight the sea monsters.
Like moths drawn to a flame.
No one could see what happened once the Zombies entered the sea, because as they poured in, the water turned even darker, hiding everything on the seabed.
There was no doubt those Zombies had received the Zombie Emperor’s brainwave order—kill those sea monsters.
And they carried it out without hesitation.
This was the difference between humans and Zombies.
Zombies could obey their leader’s commands without a second thought, never considering whether they could win, or whether they’d get hurt.
Humans, on seeing those colossal beings, were so terrified they couldn’t even move, let alone attack.
The human Superpower Users knew very well that attacking meant death.
Bang bang bang!
The Zombies’ footsteps were chaotic yet incredibly resolute as they charged into the sea.
They used their sharp teeth and claws to battle the zombie sea creatures.
A layer of black ink receded from the beach and sank heavy and thick into the sea.
The Superpower Users stared blankly at the now-empty beach; the rotten stench still coiled at their noses, but the Zombies were gone.
The Zombies had truly become allies—rather than rushing at them, they’d thrown themselves into the sea without hesitation.
Only after the Zombies dove into the sea did everyone notice the figure standing at the shoreline.
That figure stood with his back to them, faint wisps of black qi drifting off his body.
A violent aura shrouded him, making it easy to guess his identity: the Zombie Emperor, Zhang Yiming.
All the Zombies had leapt into the water, yet he alone stood there with the aura of an army at his back.
"A lot of those sea monsters have already been controlled by young Zhang Yiming. The situation’s reversed; let’s go over and watch the show."
Captain Zhang waved everyone over like a tour guide taking people up a mountain, sounding downright enthusiastic.
To be honest, no one wanted to go.
They’d come here in the first place just to protect the Safe Base, but one look at the sea monsters and everyone understood—they couldn’t win.
If they couldn’t win, they’d be better off running.
But Captain Zhang’s ice layer had already melted, the trucks couldn’t drive back, and going off alone meant risking monster attacks—everyone was in a real bind.
They could only drag their numb legs forward, inch by inch, heading toward Zhang Yiming.
Their eyes were full of fear.
Only the Bai Family looked calm, not the least bit afraid of the black killing intent rolling off Zhang Yiming.
They’d never seen this version of Zhang Yiming before, but he was still the same Zhang Yiming they knew.
"You’re here."
Zhang Yiming gave Captain Zhang and the others a slight nod, his expression still cool and distant.
A lone figure standing opposite the human Superpower Users, looking somewhat solitary.
He didn’t greet the Bai Family separately, as if he didn’t know them.
"Those... monsters are all under your control?"
Seeing that Captain Zhang seemed to have a decent relationship with Zhang Yiming, one Superpower User plucked up enough courage to ask.
Everyone stared at Zhang Yiming, eyes filled not with admiration, but with fear.
A Zombie this strong—if he were their enemy, humanity might well be wiped out.
Zhang Yiming gave a faint nod, counting as an answer.
Everyone sucked in a sharp breath, some even despairing enough to think that if Zombies ruled the earth one day, maybe they could survive as slaves donating blood.
"There’s still one Zombie Whale with a Wind Ability that I couldn’t control. The monster controlling it is very smart, hiding in the deepest part of the sea, waiting for its chance."
Zhang Yiming’s gaze swept past Bai Xiqin out of the corner of his eye; then he fixed his eyes on Captain Zhang and said,
"Be careful."
