Chapter 1448: This is unfair

Chapter 1448: This is unfair

A few hours passed by. The monk slowly opened his eyes again. No miracle had occurred. There was no heavenly intervention. No sudden enlightenment that would save him from this disaster.

Liam was still sitting there. He was still smiling and still waiting.

"…Senior Brother," the monk said carefully, voice unusually dry. "Before we proceed… this humble one would like to confirm something very small."

Liam raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"Do I really have to come with you? Isn't it better if you go by yourself? I will only drag you down."

Liam chuckled and remained silent.

The monk inwardly muttered a few curses and once again tried his best. However, no matter how many times he divined, the result was the same. His spectrum of fortune had somehow shrunk, always showing the same single black outcome.

He had never heard of such a phenomenon occurring in the entire history of divination. Perhaps one world might be gravely dangerous and show an ominous divination score, but every single time, obtaining the same result?

Death followed this guy everywhere he went!

Liam was basically a walking disaster!

If he ended up following him, then for sure, he was going to die a miserable dog death pretty soon. Nope. Nope. Nope. He was not ready to die yet, dammit! He was only just now truly starting to enjoy his life. What he needed to do now was somehow get back to his temple and his followers!

Fuck this bastard.

The monk gnashed his teeth and spent a few more hours trying to find a way out of his predicament. Unfortunately, every road led to the same destination.

Death.

No matter how many techniques he used, no matter how many futures he observed, the result remained unchanged.

Death.

Death.

Death.

Death.

"Fuck me." He cursed and racked his brain. This bastard's bad luck was simply too strong for him to deal with it all by himself. He needed someone else. He needed a backup. A bright smile suddenly appeared on the monk's face as a plan formed in his mind.

He inwardly praised his genius for coming up with something so amazing and devious and opened his mouth when suddenly the space in front of them rippled.

"Someone is teleporting here." Liam immediately became alert.

The next second, a person stepped out of the spatial distortion, which made the monk's eyes widen in shock. "How... why... why are you here?"

Even Liam was utterly dumbfounded.

Standing in front of them was none other than the Oracle, Kaden. The same person whom the monk had wanted to call just a second ago. However, he hadn't actually called him. He only thought about it, and the person was already here!

In the end, it was exactly what he wanted, but this only made everything so much worse. Why was this problematic guy here, and that too, he had come here all on his own?! Liam did not look like he used the system contract to force-teleport the guy, and yet he was here.

"How are you, Liam Chang? It's been a while..." Kaden smiled.

Liam smiled in return, coldness seeping into his gaze.

"You do not have to concern yourself with me. I am merely here because my path led me here. We have unfinished karmic debt between us, and fate tells me that the time is nigh for us to come together again."

The monk opened and closed his mouth speechlessly. This person willingly came here? Alright, this would only make everything that much simpler for him. Unfortunately, it looked like he had once again assumed things too soon.

The very next moment, Kaden sat down, a golden circle appearing around him. "Give me some time, and I will decipher what fate has in store for us."

He did not bother explaining anything else, and to the monk's surprise, Liam also did not ask him anything further. As if that was that, Liam once again turned to pay attention to the monk.

"Ah... fuck me sideways..." The monk let out a sigh and accepted his fate. "One second, senior brother... I think I know where we need to go first."

....

A few days later...

AAAHHHHH!

A scream resounded as a chubby man in plain white robes trembled from top to bottom. "Not me. Not me. Not me. Get him, dammit. He is the one hunting you."

Standing in front of him was a huge wyvern about to smack the shit out of him, but the very next second, a volley of attacks fell onto the massive beast. One after another, powerful blows struck the beast, and even though it felt impossible, the beast, just like the ones before, dropped dead in the end.

Liam casually sat down and extracted the soul, immediately converting it into a soul minion. "This is the tenth one. Not bad."

For days, they had been jumping from one world to another, all with the promise of holding something potentially fate-changing. However, it had simply been one strong beast after another.

The monk thought that he was done for in the very first world, but somehow, they were still standing. The beasts were clearly a level above them, and yet the bastard somehow managed to dominate them in the end. He just couldn't understand how.

"Senior brother, what technique did you use? That wyvern was on the verge of ascending. Yet you managed to easily subdue it. Could it be you are targeting its soul?"

Liam smiled but did not answer him. "Where are we headed next?"

The monk cursed inwardly and sat down, once again using his skill. An hour later, the whole process was over, and they had a set of new coordinates. "Senior brother, shouldn't we take a break first? I feel like if I had some more time, I could divine something truly terrifying! How about we go back and see what that other guy is up to. Let me tell you. That guy is up to no good. We need to keep a close watch on him. Trust me. I have a real knack for these things."
