Chapter 3578: Medusa (44)
Chapter 3578: Medusa (44)
Ning Shu groped around everywhere and even bumped her head. Along the way, she also touched something warm. Although she didn’t know what it was, it felt soft and squishy.
Holy crap, did she just touch a sleeping Titan?
But didn’t Titans snore like thunder?
Ning Shu quickly backed away and touched another stone. “Store it away.”
Ning Shu felt around a bit more but didn’t find anything else, so she turned around and crawled straight back.
She crawled down the stairs. What kind of place was this to actually have stairs?
When she finally saw light, it stung her eyes. She covered them for a good while before she felt better. The brightness had nearly blinded her eyes.
Upon returning to Zeus’s side, Ning Shu stroked her chin and looked him up and down. How should she get rid of Zeus?
Should she just kill him outright, or cut out his tongue?
While being stared at by Ning Shu’s burning gaze, Zeus couldn’t help but open his eyes. He saw that Ning Shu’s face was completely covered in dirt. He had no idea what this woman had been off doing.
Ning Shu vaguely heard footsteps. She swept the area with her spiritual energy and cursed inwardly. Hera was here again. Ning Shu immediately broke into a wide smile and asked, “Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? I still have some moldy buckwheat bread in my bundle. Do you want it?”
“You’re mad!” Zeus snapped unceremoniously.
Ning Shu burst out laughing. “Then I’ll give you a rubdown. Can you ask your sister to give me a divine fruit of eternal youth and take me away from here? I’m as beautiful as a flower. I can’t just wither away in this sunless place.”
Zeus let out a dry scoff.
Hera opened the bronze doors, navigated the winding path for quite a while, and finally walked in. “Brother, how are you holding up?”
“Sister, I only have one request. Kill her,” Zeus said.
Ning Shu chimed in, “You’re so mean, saying you want to kill me. You just want me to go down to the grave with you. Can’t you just let me live? My existence brings a touch of beauty to the world. My gorgeous looks light up the earth.”
Ning Shu flipped her hair, sending a cloud of dust flying into the air. Her face was completely covered in dirt.
Hera stepped to the side and spoke with noble majesty. “Brother, are you dissatisfied with this woman? She might be a little foolish, but at least she doesn’t complain about her fate. She will take good care of you.”
Ning Shu immediately spoke up. “That’s right, he’s not satisfied with me. Take me away.”
Hera ignored Ning Shu. “Brother, are you uncomfortable here?”
Ning Shu felt like Hera was just here to rub salt in the wound. How could Zeus possibly be comfortable with his arms strung up like that?
There were ascetic monks who kept their arms suspended in the air, and eventually, those arms became completely crippled.
This was purely a case of feeling much better simply by seeing someone else suffering.
Zeus looked at his sister and wife. “We were once husband and wife. Why must you treat me like this?”
“I’ve been so magnanimous as to let a woman keep you company. What is there to be dissatisfied about?” Hera said. “Brother, aren’t women your favorite thing in the world?”
Ning Shu interjected, “Actually, I like women too. I came here because I wanted a divine fruit of eternal youth. I don’t want the fruit anymore. Can you just take me away?”
Hera replied, “Stay and keep my brother company.”
Ning Shu: …
Ning Shu asked Hera, “I saw a really dark place earlier. What is that area over there?”
“Do not go there. Even gods will be swallowed by the darkness. You will lose your way and never make it out. Try not to die. Let my brother enjoy a soft, warm embrace.” Hera laughed and walked away.
Honestly, Hera’s reaction was perfectly normal for someone who was utterly disappointed in her husband. This was especially true considering her husband was a chronic philanderer with countless lovers, including both women and men.
Now that Hera had become the ruler of the gods, she had plenty of fresh, handsome young men at her beck and call.
Once Hera left, Ning Shu sighed. A rustling sound came from her bundle. The slumbering little firebird had woken up.
Ning Shu opened the bundle and looked at the bird. After eating the Wisdom Pill, its eyes had become much more vibrant and spirited. They darted around, shining with the light of intelligence.
“Hello.”
“Hello,” the firebird mimicked, though its voice was quite high-pitched and shrill.
At least she finally had someone to talk to. Zeus looked at the firebird with an arrogant gaze. It was nothing but a lowly creature.
Hera always came over here whenever she had free time, so Ning Shu had basically figured out the frequency of her visits. Regardless, it would be quite a long time before she showed up again.
Stuck in this sunless place, Ning Shu had no way to tell whether it was day or night.
Ning Shu looked at Zeus. “Do you want me to break you out of here?”
Zeus snapped his eyes open. He looked at Ning Shu with deep suspicion. “You said you want to save me?”
Ning Shu nodded. She conjured a dagger in her hand and slowly approached Zeus. Zeus tried to back away, but since he was suspended by chains, he couldn’t move anywhere at all.
Ning Shu pinched Zeus’s chin. Zeus jerked his head to the side. “What are you doing?”
“You tell Hera to kill me every single day. I have to make sure you can no longer speak,” Ning Shu said calmly.
“You are so venomous.” Zeus stared at Ning Shu with wide eyes.
“Oh, well, if we were following a typical trope, I’m supposed to risk my life to bust you out of here and then help you fight to reclaim your throne as the King of the Gods. Then, you’d forgive everything that happened in the past, and I would play the role of the woman behind a successful man.”
Zeus’s eyes flickered for a moment. “That sounds pretty good.”
“Good for what? Tell me, what would I possibly gain from working so hard? One, I’m not after your money. Two, I don’t love you and don’t depend on you emotionally. Why on earth would I do that?”
If I don’t depend on you financially or emotionally, what use are you to me?
Zeus: …
He knew this woman was just messing with him. She was cold-hearted, cold-blooded, and completely ruthless.
Ning Shu released numerous needles as fine as cow hair. The needles shot directly into the spot between Zeus’s eyebrows. Zeus tried to dodge, but bound tightly by the ropes, he couldn’t evade them at all.
The immense power of the fine needles completely destroyed Zeus’s brain tissue. Zeus wept tears of blood and roared in agonizing pain as his godhead was blasted into several pieces.
Zeus’s head slumped forward.
However, Zeus’s current state was more akin to being in a vegetative coma. Since his godhead hadn’t been completely destroyed, Zeus was dead, but he was a living corpse.
Perhaps after a very long time, he might wake up and manage to repair his divine spark. But by that time, the Zeus who awakened would be him, yet not him.
He had fallen into a deep slumber, just like the Titans locked up down here. The Titans were alive, but Zeus was dead.
Ning Shu needed Zeus’s physical body to remain perfectly intact. This was the only way Hera would feel at ease. If Zeus managed to escape, Hera would undoubtedly hunt him down to the ends of the earth.
Ning Shu carried the bird over to the pitch-black corridor. She took off her shoes and tossed them casually onto the ground. She left her bundle and all her other belongings behind. When she reached the bronze doors, she pushed against them, but there was no way to force them open.
The god of fire’s craftsmanship was really fucking good.
Ning Shu’s eyes darted around. She turned invisible, dashed over to the slumbering Titan, and delivered a swift kick.
The Titan didn’t wake up. Ning Shu then detonated her fine needles. Pierced by the immense force, the Titan abruptly woke up. He instantly let out a mighty roar and surged to his feet, shaking the very heavens and the earth.
The deafening clash of his massive iron chains was enough to rupture an eardrum.
She refused to believe that the Olympian gods wouldn’t care about what was happening down here. After all, this place held the very Titans who had rebelled against them all those years ago.
