Chapter 3562: Medusa (28)

Chapter 3562: Medusa (28)

Poseidon stood there completely naked. His robust body radiated a sense of wildness.

Although Poseidon had managed to dodge Ning Shu’s needles, the earlier hit had left him in excruciating pain. His godhead appeared to be damaged.

“Medusa!” Poseidon ground out through clenched teeth, his blood-red eyes scanning the area. “Show yourself if you have the guts!”

Ning Shu did not appear. Having the advantage of being invisible, there was no reason to reveal herself.

She released a lightning dragon, and Poseidon used his trident to battle the beast.

She appeared behind Poseidon and compressed her energy. A needle as thin as a strand of hair shot into the back of Poseidon’s head. He let out a roar of agony, looking exceptionally pained.

She closed her eyes to sense the needle. Since it was infused with her spiritual energy, she could clearly perceive everything it encountered inside Poseidon’s mind. She used her spiritual consciousness to inspect the interior of his skull.

The head might have looked small, but the inside was like a vast universe. Was every god’s head a miniature world?

She detected a floating, massive, irregular, and crystal-clear godhead. The needle shot directly into it, causing cracks to form across its surface.

Ning Shu detonated the needle. The godhead immediately suffered massive trauma and was blown into fragments.

“Ah!” Poseidon looked utterly miserable as he clutched his head. His eyes were entirely red, and his pupils were no longer visible. It was unclear if he could even see anything. Without the support of his godhead, his power weakened significantly, and his spirit withered.

Poseidon was coiled by the lightning dragon. With just one strong squeeze, he would be crushed into pieces and completely annihilated.

Ning Shu finally revealed herself. She looked at the god trapped by the dragon made of shimmering lightning.

“It really is you.”

Ning Shu nodded. “It’s me.”

Ning Shu looked at the naked Poseidon and a dagger appeared in her hand.

Poseidon’s spirit was flagging. Seeing the dagger in her hand, his body twitched involuntarily. “What do you intend to do?”

“Wouldn’t it be better to remove the root of all your trouble so you can focus on cultivating your character?” Ning Shu said with a smile. Because she was so beautiful, her smile felt like a refreshing spring breeze, yet her red, sensual lips uttered words that chilled the bone.

“You vile woman!” Poseidon could not help but roar. “You are so venomous that the world will not tolerate you!

“Even if I die, divine punishment will fall. An evil person like you will never survive the wrath of the gods!”

Long ago, Zeus had taken revenge on humanity after Prometheus stole fire for them. When Zeus saw flames rising in the mortal realm, he flew into a rage and decided to destroy those rebellious subjects.

He ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create a stone statue of a beautiful woman. Athena used magic to give the statue life. Hermes gave her the gift of speech, and Aphrodite bestowed upon her all kinds of seductive charms.

Zeus named this beautiful creation Pandora, meaning ‘the woman who had all gifts.’

Every god had given her a gift meant to harm humanity.

Zeus sent this young woman to the mortal world. She went straight to Prometheus’s brother, Epimetheus, and asked him to accept the gift Zeus had sent.

Zeus was quite clever in his cruelty. Since Prometheus had created and helped humans, Zeus would have his brother destroy them.

Prometheus had warned his brother never to accept any gift from Zeus on Mount Olympus and to return it immediately.

However, his dim-witted brother was captivated by the woman and forgot the warning.

Pandora walked up to Epimetheus and suddenly opened the lid of her jar. Disasters flew out like thick black smoke.

These included disease, calamity, jealousy, theft, greed, and sin. At the bottom of the jar, only one beautiful thing remained—Hope. But following the instructions of Zeus, the father of all gods, Pandora quickly closed the lid before it could fly out.

Thus, Hope was locked inside the jar forever.

From then on, all sorts of disasters filled the earth, sky, and sea. Disease spread through humanity day and night, silent and devastating.

This was how Zeus intended to exterminate mankind, forcing them to endure various calamities and deaths brought by sickness.

The gods’ attitude toward humans was far from friendly.

“You won’t survive. Once the cataclysm is unleashed, only the truly virtuous will live,” Poseidon roared.

Ning Shu brushed a strand of hair back. “At least I’m still alive now. You will certainly die before I do.”

“Your actions will implicate all of humanity. Everyone will suffer a world-ending disaster because of you!” Poseidon sneered. Due to the pain, the muscles in his face spasmed periodically.

“I can’t even master my own destiny, so I can’t worry about others. I certainly cannot carry the fate of all humanity. Besides, humans won’t just go extinct,” Ning Shu said calmly. She swung her hand directly toward Poseidon’s groin.

She sliced off Poseidon’s root of trouble.

A rapist was unforgivable—one who vents his desires on the weak and defenseless without any restraint.

Ning Shu stepped on the severed part and ground it under her heel. She looked coldly at the agonized Poseidon as golden blood flowed down his legs.

Poseidon let out a cold, raspy laugh. Seeing him like this, Ning Shu sneered. “You aren’t about to curse me, are you? Athena did the same thing. However, she is dead now. There is no longer a goddess named Athena in this world.”

“You…” Poseidon’s expression twisted with disbelief, anger, confusion, and fear. “Why?”

Why did she go to such lengths?

“You were once Athena’s priestess. You worshipped and believed in her. Yet you could still kill her. You have no fear of the gods, and you don’t have a shred of faith.”

Poseidon’s voice trembled as the physical pain became too much to bear.

He felt his life force slipping away because his godhead had been destroyed. “Why?”

“I believe in myself. I don’t have any particular prejudice or grudge against gods, but look at what the gods did to me. And look at those ‘heroes’ who wave the banner of eliminating evil.”

Ning Shu plunged her dagger into Poseidon’s chest. Inside was a beating heart, though it was now very weak.

“You truly are a venomous woman!” Golden blood spilled from the corner of Poseidon’s mouth.

It was always acceptable for men to be ‘ruthless’ to achieve greatness, to ignore minor details to build a world-spanning legacy.

But a woman was labeled ‘poisonous.’ It seemed as though women were never supposed to have ambition. They were expected to be gentle, to dislike power, and to stay out of the world’s conflicts. For a woman to possess ambition and the means to act on it was considered an unforgivable sin.

A woman was expected to be simple and kind, or perhaps clever and quick-witted, as long as she had no desire for power.

There were many kinds of men, but women were forced into a single mold.

She must be kind. She must have no ambition of her own.
