Chapter 3049: Just a Simple Country Girl
The bus moved slowly, making frequent stops to pick up new passengers.
Ning Shu held onto her bag. It only contained a ginseng root, which was her one valuable, and a few clothes.
As the bus moved forward, the passengers getting on looked noticeably different, wearing increasingly bright and colorful clothing.
Ning Shu, on the other hand, was just a simple country girl.
Her clothes were plain and outdated, exuding a rustic aura that made it obvious she came from the countryside.
When the bus stopped at a rest area, passengers got off to take care of their needs or grab something to eat.
Ning Shu ordered a plate of vegetables and a bowl of plain white rice at a restaurant.
But the price made her click her tongue in disbelief. Taking advantage of its location, the food was outrageously expensive. Their attitude was take it or leave it.
While eating, Ning Shu felt a gaze scrutinizing her.
She opened her bag and tucked the ginseng into her pocket, suspecting she had caught the attention of a thief.Ning Shu sneered inwardly, wondering if she would have to act out a scene of catching a thief later.
She stretched her neck slightly. Noticing the gaze was still on her, she looked over.
She saw a woman who appeared to be in her forties.
The woman had well-defined features. When her eyes met Ning Shu’s, she didn’t shy away and even smiled.
Grabbing her bag, the woman walked over and sat in the chair across from Ning Shu.
Ning Shu raised an eyebrow. What did this stranger want?
She suspected the woman might be a human trafficker who was planning to abduct her and sell her off to some old bachelor in the mountains.
Ning Shu: Hahaha, my inner thoughts are so dark…
Acting like an unsophisticated country girl, Ning Shu stared at the woman with her eyes wide and asked, “Auntie, do you need something?”
Hearing Ning Shu call her “Auntie,” the woman’s mouth twitched, her expression instantly changing. No woman liked being called old.
However, she forced herself to stay calm, smiling as she flipped her hair, releasing a pleasant fragrance.
Ning Shu leaned back slightly.
“You can call me Sister Zhou. I run an agency. You’re headed to the city to look for work, right?”
An agency?
A labor agency?
Ning Shu shyly and obediently called her, “Sister Zhou.”
Sister Zhou smiled and ordered a few meat dishes for Ning Shu.
“You know what an agency is, right?” she asked.
Looking at the dishes on the table, Ning Shu didn’t hold back, picking up her chopsticks to eat. If it was offered, might as well eat it.
There was no such thing as unsolicited kindness—it was either a scam or something else shady.
Besides, Ning Shu wasn’t worried about if there was anything suspicious in the food.
Her body could handle it.
Watching Ning Shu finish all the food, Sister Zhou’s eyes flashed with disdain.
Ning Shu set down her chopsticks and said, “Thanks for the treat. I’m leaving.”
She grabbed her bag and walked out of the restaurant. Sister Zhou was taken aback for a moment before quickly chasing after her.
To think she’d run into such a simpleton. Did this girl think her food was free?
“Little sister, don’t leave yet! Didn’t I say I run an agency? I think you’re perfect for it.”
Ning Shu paused, feigning ignorance and curiosity. “What kind of agency is it?” she asked.
Sister Zhou replied somewhat mysteriously, “I can help you make a lot of money.”
Ning Shu feigned surprise but sneered inwardly. There was no such thing as a free lunch.
She quickly asked, “What kind of job?”
