Chapter 1071: Chapter 1068: Personality Changes
If before amnesia Chu Heng rarely revealed that hint of deterrence, now he had completely matured, embodying the character he seldom revealed back then.
Ye Muyu was aware of Chu Heng’s gaze, but he did not react, simply continuing to pick.
“Master, you…”
Chu Heng suddenly turned around, looking at her face with a gaze that was deep yet serene.
Even though he displayed no emotion, the way he looked at her made Ye Muyu feel uneasy, somehow uncomfortable with meeting his eyes.
“What is it?” Really, his stare had been fixed on her continuously, which made Ye Muyu a bit embarrassed and annoyed, so she lifted her head and glared at him.
Chu Heng’s lips moved slightly, and after a moment, he uttered two words, “Nothing.”
Then he continued picking green beans.
Once he had picked enough, he stopped.
Ye Muyu found that the amount he picked was precisely what she had prepared, which struck her as odd.
Chu Heng had no intention of explaining; he simply asked, “Should the rest be picked as well?”
“Huh?” Ye Muyu snapped back to reality, hurriedly stepping forward: “I’ll do it, Master can go and pick strawberries with the children.”
Chu Heng responded with an acknowledgment but said nothing more. Ye Muyu thought he had agreed and so went ahead to pick pumpkins.
Just as she crouched down, footsteps sounded from behind her. Unable to resist, she looked back and indeed saw Chu Heng following her, which clarified that he had acknowledged her but had not really agreed.
“Since Master wishes to stay, then please help me pick pumpkins, we can make pumpkin porridge for dinner,” Ye Muyu invited him.
Chu Heng gave a noncommittal grunt and truly squatted down to help pick pumpkins.
Ye Muyu gave him several sidelong glances, but the man didn’t look up because of her gaze. It was as if he was just silently accompanying her, and this thought startled Ye Muyu for a moment.
Her mind incessantly replayed Chu Heng’s behavior over the past two days.
It seemed different from when they were in the county.
But when pushed to pinpoint the difference, it appeared that he had become more proactive than before, not treating her completely as a stranger.
However, she and he had made a pledge that morning.
Perhaps, it was because of that promise that he changed?
“Mother, Mother…”
Ye Muyu came back to her senses and saw a child’s tender face before her. Chu Jin was greeting her, looking at her with a puzzled expression: “Mother, I’ve been calling you for a long time, what were you thinking about?”
“Nothing,” Ye Muyu replied with a slight, smiling curve of her lips, “Have you finished picking?”
“Yes, Mother, we want to go back and wash strawberries to eat; can we go back now?” Chu Jin asked expectantly.
“Alright, let’s go back.”
Glancing at the basket, she noticed the vegetables were nearly all there, which wasn’t the case just a moment ago…
Her gaze fell upon Chu Heng’s slightly blue fingers, and she instantly understood why.
“Alright, let’s go back.”
Ye Muyu didn’t expect that her brief spell of distraction could make the time pass so quickly.
Zhao Qingqing, leading the two children with strawberries, walked ahead. Ye Muyu took a handkerchief from her waist and passed it to Chu Heng, who was by her side. She then addressed Lu Chuan: “Help Master wash his hands clean.”
“Yes, lady.”
Watching Ye Muyu’s retreating figure, Lu Chuan took out the water pouch and looked at Chu Heng: “Master, shall we wash hands now?”
He had just witnessed the Master voluntarily helping the lady pick vegetables. When the lady was deep in thought squatting on the ground, the Master’s gaze would occasionally fall on her. It was clear to any observant person that there was a thread of entanglement amidst the harmonious atmosphere between the two.
Yet, frustratingly, neither the Master nor the lady would speak forthrightly.
And how did Lu Chuan come to know this? If you compared the closeness between the Master and the lady before to their current relationship, it was clear that they were far more intimate in the past, signaling that they hadn’t yet opened their hearts to each other fully.
