Chapter 601: Chapter 602 Did You Sleep Well Last Night?_1
After Butler Yan assisted Long San up to rest, Nan Feng went downstairs and ordered another two dishes from the inn. Thinking that Long San might be susceptible to the cold due to his physical condition, she had the inn make him a pork rib soup with red dates, a steamed egg custard, and a plate of greens. Meanwhile, she ordered the more rich and fatty braised pork for Butler Yan, who needed to replenish his strength.
Nan Feng also ordered steamed pork ribs and a serving of greens for herself, asking the inn’s waiter to bring the food upstairs upon their readiness.
They had booked two rooms, one with a single bed for her and another for Long San and Butler Yan, so they ate separately.
Given Long San’s constitution, Nan Feng decided not to dine with him. After her meal, she asked the waiter to bring up some water. She then went to the backyard to wash their clothes, which dried by the next morning.
At breakfast, Nan Feng, noticing that Long San looked well-rested, asked him, “Did you sleep well last night?”
“Quite well,” replied Long San. Perhaps conserving his strength, he usually spoke slowly and calmly. “I drank some heart-nourishing tea last night, so I slept until morning. How about you, Lady Nan? Did you sleep well?”
“Quite well,” Nan Feng replied. “Perhaps I am just this type of person. If I were to stay at home waiting for him in silence, I would be so anxious that I wouldn’t sleep. But when I am out and about creating a ruckus, even if I can’t see him, my mood doesn’t become as agitated.”
Long San chuckled, “Such is human nature. Lady Nan, what do you feel like eating this morning?”
“A steamed bun with pickled vegetables and a simple porridge will do. How about you, San Ye? What do you feel like eating?” asked Nan Feng.
Long San replied calmly, “I’ll have the same as Lady Nan.”
After their porridge, Long San instructed Butler Yan to buy more sesame seed cakes and steamed buns for the boat. He planned to carry on with their journey without stopping, heading straight to the Capital City.
…
Nan Feng was no longer afraid of sailing or staying on the deck.
Although the weather got colder the further north they went.
Nearing noon, she left the cabin again and leaned against the railing, blankly watching the river.
Not until she heard footsteps behind her followed by someone calling slowly, “Lady Nan.”
Nan Feng turned around and saw Long San emerging from the cabin, holding an extra cloak. When he approached Nan Feng, he handed the cloak to her, “Aren’t you cold?”
Nan Feng took the cloak, draped it over herself and thanked him politely, “Thank you, San Ye.”
She indeed hadn’t brought any heavy clothing. Although the south was warm now, the north was still cold, particularly above this river, from which one could feel the bone-chilling cold.
Now clad in Long San’s cloak, Nan Feng felt much warmer.
Long San then sat down beside Nan Feng. Wrapping his own cloak around himself he jokingly asked her, “Do you regret coming to the Capital City? Look at all the hassle, sailing a boat for two full days.”
Nan Feng laughed, “Not at all. What about you, San Ye? Do you regret accompanying Nan Feng through all this fuss and hassle throughout our journey?”
“If a young lady like you doesn’t regret it, then what do I have to regret?” Long San replied.
Nan Feng further questioned, “Then, doesn’t San Ye think Nan Feng is too impulsive? Knowing that coming to the Capital City might not amount to much, and there’s a chance we won’t even see Ye Ge, do you think I’m foolish? Just like how you used to dislike Xue Ling following you around heedlessly, did you find her annoying?”
