Chapter 1523: Chapter 1345: A Stormy Night in Jianghu
Seeing Xia Dabao about to crush the insect with his palm, Elder Yun quickly retrieved the Gu and then asked Axian, “What brings you to the Chixia tribe?”
Bei Shan interjected before anyone else could respond, “Elder Yun, they’ve come seeking medicine, to treat their little son who is always asleep.”
Elder Yun walked closer, looked over Axian, flipping his eyelids, and then said, “Since that’s the case, please follow me!”
Axian hesitated for a moment, but still led his wife and children up the mountain.
…
At first glance, there appeared to be no path inside the mountain, but Elder Yun blew into a gourd and the mist on both sides of the mountain dispersed, revealing what seemed to be a path.
Through the misty and layered forest, they came upon a very long iron chain bridge connecting two mountains with a layer of mist below—likely a bottomless abyss.
Elder Yun led the way, followed by Axian, who was holding his son. Axian then reminded Nan Feng and Xia Dabao to be careful as they walked, and Nan Feng linked arms with Xia Dabao.
After walking a few steps, Xia Dabao turned to glance back at Yun Xiao and Bei Shan.
Yun Xiao still looked very cold, with a hint of anger on his face, while Bei Shan appeared to be enjoying their misfortune, but he dared not say anything with Elder Yun present.
“Mom, the Chixia tribe does not seem simple,” Xia Dabao whispered to Nan Feng, “I have a feeling that there is great danger waiting for us ahead.”
Nan Feng patted Xia Dabao, comforting her with, “Since we’ve already come this far, we can only take things as they come. Plus, you have to believe in your father—he always finds a way. And if, by any chance, something goes wrong… at worst, the four of us will die together.”
Xia Dabao nodded and gripped Nan Feng’s hand tighter.
After crossing the iron chain bridge, there was a large gate ahead with several gatekeepers. Beyond the gate, they could see some houses.
To be exact, there were wooden huts and stilt houses built into the mountain, some with clothes hanging out to dry.
As they had passed through the dense jungle, they could now see the sunshine, and a wind blew through the mountains, carrying the scent of decomposing vegetation—a bit more primal than the air in Peach Blossom Village.
The deeper they went, the more people they saw, and the more houses appeared. There seemed to be a small market ahead, and the people there all paid respects to Elder Yun and, finally, to Yun Xiao.
Some people also paid their respects to Bei Shan, but clearly just out of politeness.
Xia Dabao felt that the people here were different. It wasn’t that they were abnormal, but everyone had smiles on their faces, children played and teased each other, and there was a strong sense of community.
To call them normal, however, would be misleading as insects crawled everywhere, and here, a three-year-old child boldly kissed and played with a green snake, then scolded it with a couple of smacks when it misbehaved, causing the snake to shrink back like a shy turtle.
Nan Feng also observed the surroundings—the people here were surely of the Chixia tribe. Later, a mischievous boy of about ten years old, seeing that Axian and his family were not locals, threw a Gu at Axian. But Axian, having witnessed the speed with which Elder Yun released Gu, and being on guard the whole way, kicked the boy’s Gu back. His Inner Power was so strong that the Gu died shortly after hitting the ground.
“How audacious!” Elder Yun instantly appeared beside the boy, flicked his finger, and the boy started rolling on the ground, clutching his stomach.
