“Not at all, big sister just has nothing to do and wants to play with Axian,” Xia Dabao said.
“Big sister, you didn’t really like to play with me before,” Axian said again, looking up with big eyes.
Xia Dabao looked at Axian’s thick eyebrows and big eyes and smiled, “You were too young before, we couldn’t play together, but now we can. What do you want to play?”
Axian thought for a moment, “Play… skipping stones. You’re the best at skipping stones, aren’t you? Axian wants to learn too.”
“Okay, but first you have to go pick up some stones, otherwise where will we get the stones to skip?” Xia Dabao said with a smile.
Axian went outside to pick stones, and Xia Dabao hurriedly followed.
But she always felt that Axian’s walk was sluggish as if he had no energy at all. He picked stones for a short time and then sat down on the ground, gasping for breath with cold sweat on his forehead: “Big sister, I’m too tired, I need to go back and sleep for a while.”

The first thing Nan Feng did when she got back was to ask Xia Dabao, “How is Axian doing now?”
Xia Dabao recounted what had happened with Axian. Nan Feng, feeling concerned, went into the room to call for him. Axian also responded by lifting his eyelids, saying he was too tired and wanted to sleep.
It seemed that they wouldn’t make it to the county town that day and would have to go the next day.
But this sleep lasted until nightfall, and when night came, Axian rose from his bed, still looking limp, and said he was hungry. Nan Feng quickly served him food, but after eating just two bites, he said he was full and then went back to his room to sleep.
Nan Feng spent the night without changing her clothes, staying with Axian as he seemed truly tired, sleeping until the next morning without waking up once.

The family set off for the county town very early.
Yege led the way with the cart, and Nan Feng and her son and daughter sat in the back. Axian had only had some porridge that morning, and now seated in the swaying flatbed cart, he had once again fallen asleep.
