Chapter 1046: Chapter 846 Xiaobao Falls Ill
Every time she thought of the day her brother was injured, covered in blood, her heart ached as if it were being cut by a knife. She wished she could hurt Tuoba Lie herself.
That day, she was on the grassland collecting dung while the baby kept crying non-stop. Thinking the baby must be hungry, she immediately went back to the tent to breastfeed, but the baby refused to eat. She checked the diaper next, difficult to change out in the open, she always used one, washing it and replacing it with a clean one when necessary.
In these times, she had found quite a few old clothes discarded on the grassland. Back when she sold facial masks, she knew many ladies who also donated some to her, so she wasn’t worried about running out of diapers; she had plenty.
When she checked by taking off the baby’s tiny pants, there was no urine. Why was she still crying incessantly?
She then touched her forehead, and there was no fever. Could it be a stomachache?
The winds were strong on the grassland, and taking the baby with her to collect cow dung every day meant the baby was easily exposed to the cold. She touched the baby’s belly and saw that it was bloated, seemingly due to gas. Nan Feng hurriedly took the baby to the doctor.
It was that very skilled doctor, but the doctor had said that both Nan Feng and her daughter were not allowed to seek medical treatment or pick herbs there. If there were problems, they could only go to Tuoba Lie. After much pleading, the doctor finally told Nan Feng to find a plant called “Black Rim Grass” on the grassland. It had white flowers and piece-shaped leaves; the juice from the crushed plant could relieve the condition.
The doctor probably felt pity for Nan Feng, who used to be favored and now had fallen into such a state of hardship.
Nan Feng had no choice but to look for that grass, but with the baby uncomfortable, she was worried about taking her out onto the grassland, fearing she’d catch a cold and that would be troublesome.
Leave the baby in the house?
With resolve, Nan Feng decided to leave the baby in the house, which was warm, and since the baby couldn’t turn over yet, there was no risk of rolling under the bed—it was just crying at worst. Besides, there was a 24-hour guard outside keeping watch over them, so there was no fear of the baby being taken.
Nan Feng also instructed one of the guards to watch over the house and the baby, telling them she would be back soon.
When she went out, the baby’s crying did not cease, causing her much heartache. Yet, she kept encouraging herself to be strong, to endure, to survive despite the difficulties.
Setting her heart on it, she quickly went to find the herbs. It took a lot of effort, but she finally found a few plants and took them to the doctor to confirm. The doctor affirmed it was the right kind.
However, the doctor’s expression was a bit awkward. Nan Feng thought there was a problem, so she had him confirm it again.
“It’s correct, Lady Nan Feng, it’s this one. Uh… just don’t take too much of it within a single day, and keep an eye on her. If the baby passes gas, that means she is better. If she continues to cry uncomfortably, give her some more,” he said.
Nan Feng happily took the herbs back.
But when she arrived at the tent, there was no crying to be heard; it was quiet inside. Was the baby asleep?
She immediately pushed open the door and entered, only to see Xiaobao being held by Tuoba Lie. Tuoba Lie’s grip on the infant was practiced; he rocked her slowly, and the baby, feeling comfortable, had fallen asleep.
If it had been someone else, Nan Feng might have felt moved. But seeing Tuoba Lie do it, she suspected he had ulterior motives. Unable to get his way with her, he had turned his attention to her daughter instead.
