Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 723 - 722: Finally Received Approval

Chapter 723: Chapter 722: Finally Received Approval

Sometime after four in the afternoon, the five titans of cardiac surgery—Liang Zhaokui, Gu Lin, Deng Chunming, Ni Leixing, and Zhang Shi’an—each held a copy of the newly printed "Operational Guidelines for the Dual-Chief Surgeon Heart Transplant Technique." The documents were still warm from the printer, and they couldn’t seem to put them down.

Dr. Gu Lin sighed emotionally. "This wasn’t easy. We finally finished it. It was worth the millions of brain cells I’ve lost and half my hair turning gray over this."

His words earned him a contemptuous eye-roll from Dr. Deng Chunming.

"Mr. Gu, to hear you talk, one would think you put in all the work and deserve most of the credit."

"All you did was patch up the holes and run verifications."

Gu Lin scoffed, shooting him a disdainful sideways glance. "Dr. Deng, I know what this is. It’s jealousy, pure and simple."

"You’re just trying to downplay my contributions because you know far more of my suggestions were adopted for these guidelines than yours."

Deng Chunming let out a short, derisive laugh. "What a joke. You think they accepted fewer of my suggestions than yours?"

"Are you daydreaming?"

Looking thoroughly unconvinced, Deng Chunming turned to Yan Feifan.

"Yan, you were the one who actually compiled these guidelines. You were also in charge of recording all the suggestions we discussed and verified."

"So you tell us, how many of my suggestions were adopted in total?"

Deng Chunming then pointed a finger at Gu Lin. "And how many of his were adopted?"

When Deng Chunming noticed a hesitant look on Yan Feifan’s face, his eyes widened into a glare.

"Yan, don’t you try to gloss over this."

"You’re famous for your photographic memory. You must remember something this simple perfectly."

Yan Feifan met the scrutinizing gazes of the two doctors, Gu and Deng, and let out a couple of awkward, silly laughs.

Just then, he saw Dr. Liang, Dr. Ni, and Dr. Zhang also turn to look at him.

A sudden idea struck Yan Feifan. He raised the thick manual in his hand and announced, "Mr. Liang, Mr. Gu, Mr. Deng, Mr. Ni, Mr. Zhang, these guidelines are a collection of every one of your experiences, wisdom, and hard work."

"Without any one of you, these guidelines would not be as complete or as perfect as they are now."

"Therefore, in my opinion, a single suggestion is just as important as a hundred."

Yan Feifan said with a solemn expression, "Because if even one of those suggestions were missing, we wouldn’t have the complete and perfect guidelines we do now."

These words made Liang Zhaokui, Ni Leixing, and the others break into laughter.

Liang Zhaokui pointed a finger at Yan Feifan, shaking his head with a light chuckle. "Feifan, are you really the same naive medical genius I remember?"

"How did you suddenly become so slick and learn to talk your way out of things with such flattering words?"

Yan Feifan gave an embarrassed chuckle. "Mr. Liang, people grow up, you know!"

After a brief pause, Yan Feifan added with a serious expression, "Sirs, what I just said came from the heart. They weren’t just empty pleasantries."

"Without your decades of surgical experience, and without all your corrections and detailed contributions, these guidelines truly wouldn’t have been completed so quickly or so smoothly."

"So..."

Yan Feifan said with utmost sincerity, "Mr. Liang, Mr. Gu, Mr. Deng, Mr. Ni, Mr. Zhang, I believe it’s inappropriate to name this dual-chief surgeon technique after me."

"This technique is the fruit of our collective wisdom. It should be given a more fitting name."

At these words, the five senior surgeons—Liang, Gu, Deng, Ni, and Zhang—couldn’t help but exchange glances, their faces all showing pleased expressions.

"Yan..."

It was Gu Lin who spoke up. He chuckled. "Mr. Deng and I are always digging at each other at work, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get along."

"He was right about one thing..."

Gu Lin pointed his finger in turn at Liang Zhaokui, Ni Leixing, Zhang Shi’an, Deng Chunming, and finally at his own nose.

"The work they did—and I include myself in this—over the past few days really was just verification and patching things up."

After a pause, Gu Lin continued slowly, "This dual-chief surgeon technique... you were the first to propose it, Yan. The framework, the division of labor, and the surgical steps were all designed by you."

"To put it simply, if the work was divided into ten parts, you completed nine of them yourself. All of us combined accounted for one part at most."

"So, it’s only right that it’s named after you. You don’t need to feel awkward about it."

Deng Chunming picked up the conversation, smiling. "Yan, we’re just happy to have been part of something that will go down in medical history."

"You don’t have to worry about us being greedy for the credit. We’re not that shameless."

Yan Feifan was touched. He gave a slight bow and said, "Thank you all for your kindness, Sirs."

Zhang Shi’an laughed heartily. "Just for the fact that you call us ’Mr.’ so respectfully, Yan, we couldn’t possibly be shameless enough to steal your credit."

"Hey, speaking of which, Mr. Liang..."

Zhang Shi’an turned to Liang Zhaokui. "Yan has held national surgical observation symposiums for both neurosurgery and the plastic surgery center."

"This dual-chief surgeon heart transplant technique..."

His mind already racing, Liang Zhaokui nodded. "A surgical technique this effective? We shouldn’t limit it to a national audience. We could invite cardiac experts from around the world to come here for a symposium and observation."

"However, first we’ll need to perform a number of successful surgeries and ensure the patients have good postoperative recoveries. That will take at least three to five months."

"There’s one more thing..."

Liang Zhaokui said, looking troubled, "When it’s time for the observation surgery, it won’t be easy to find a patient and a donor heart."

"Things are rarely that coincidental. We can’t just make cardiac experts who’ve traveled thousands of miles wait around indefinitely, can we?"

Deng Chunming gave him a scornful look. "Mr. Liang, I think you’re getting muddled. They’re coming to see a demonstration of the technique, not to watch us save someone’s life."

"When the time comes, we can just bring in a pig to serve as the surgical subject."

Liang Zhaokui slapped his own forehead and laughed self-deprecatingly. "I’m getting old. My thinking is really slowing down. Sometimes my mind just can’t make the leap."

"Using a live pig for the demonstration would certainly be sufficient!"

At this point, Ni Leixing, who had been mostly quiet, interrupted. "Today’s work has reached a milestone, and we’ve got a tangible result. Shouldn’t we celebrate?"

Yan Feifan quickly volunteered, "Sirs, let me make the arrangements. I’ll handle it."

"Luo’s Private Kitchen, Jinxiu Grand Hotel, Xinfeng Restaurant... where would you like to go?"

"If you have a better place in mind, just say the word, and I’ll have someone make the arrangements."

Liang Zhaokui glanced at the others for their input, then said, "Let’s go with the private kitchen."

"The food there is excellent. I’ve been a few times, and I’m always happy to go back."

Once the location was settled, Yan Feifan called Duan Yu and asked her to make the arrangements.

After putting his phone away, Yan Feifan spoke again. "Sirs, there’s nothing else for me here at the moment. I’m going to pop next door and see how those students of mine are progressing with their work."

Gu Lin smiled and suggested, "Let’s all go."

"We can see what caliber of students Yan has taken on."

Just as they were about to get up, Yan Feifan’s phone suddenly rang.

It was a call from Dr. Qiu Ge.

He heard her say excitedly over the phone, "Mr. Yan, we’ve received approval from the ethics committee."

"As long as we obtain the guardian’s consent, we can proceed with the clinical awakening trial on the patient in a vegetative state..."
