Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 673 - 672: A Very High Evaluation

Chapter 673: Chapter 672: A Very High Evaluation

Epiphora, also known as watery eyes when exposed to wind, has both physiological and pathological causes.

There are three main physiological causes. First, the amount of tears secreted by the lacrimal glands exceeds the drainage capacity of the tear ducts, causing them to overflow. Crying is one example.

Second, the lacrimal glands are stimulated by cold air or wind, causing a reflexive increase in tear secretion.

Meanwhile, the lacrimal puncta and canaliculi contract spasmodically when stimulated by the cold, reducing the amount of tears they can absorb. This excess fluid then flows out onto the surface of the eye, forming tears.

Third is eyelid laxity.

This is most common in middle-aged and elderly people. Their tear ducts are unobstructed, but due to the sagging of the eyelid skin and decreased strength of the surrounding eye muscles, the siphoning action for tear drainage is reduced, leading to poor drainage and watery eyes.

As for pathological causes of epiphora, there are quite a few.

It is often caused by ocular inflammation, such as conjunctivitis, trachoma, or blepharitis. It can also result from trauma, tumors, or other factors that lead to the narrowing or blockage of the tear ducts.

Yan Feifan glanced at Ma Weixia’s friend. She was in her early twenties. Although her eyes were slightly red, there were no signs of inflammation.

Yan Feifan then learned that the young woman’s epiphora was severe only in her left eye, while it was not very noticeable in her right.

Considering she had already seen a doctor, and that epiphora wasn’t a particularly complex condition, yet her symptoms hadn’t improved after treatment, Yan Feifan guessed that it might be due to trauma, a tumor, or a developmental abnormality in a hidden area that was compressing the left tear duct.

After getting the woman’s permission, Yan Feifan found a pair of surgical gloves in the car, put them on, and began to examine her face.

Upon examination, Yan Feifan did indeed feel something unusual.

The upper palate area above the young woman’s left incisor had an abnormal upward bulge, causing her nasal septum to be slightly deviated and deformed.

An ectopic tooth!

This was the first cause Yan Feifan thought of.

Not all of our many teeth grow in obediently. There is a small chance they can grow sideways or even upside down, forming troublesome ectopic teeth.

However, due to the slow growth of the tooth, the discomfort caused by its ectopic invasion is quite mild and often overlooked.

It’s not until it has grown large enough and the symptoms suddenly worsen one day due to inflammation or other reasons that it gets discovered.

As for this young woman, Yan Feifan analyzed that she likely had a supernumerary incisor growing inverted, protruding up into her nasal cavity.

As this tooth continued to grow, it pushed up the surrounding muscle tissue or formed a cyst, compressing her left tear duct.

Yan Feifan withdrew his examining hand and, while taking off his gloves, instructed, "Go to the hospital’s oral surgery department and get a dental CT scan."

"If they don’t find anything, come find me again!"

"Could it really be a tooth causing my watery eye?" the young woman asked, her tone clearly skeptical.

Ma Weixia defended him. "Lian, Mr. Yan is a famous genius doctor at the Affiliated Hospital. Whatever he says is definitely right."

Yan Feifan smiled and said, "I’m not that infallible. It’s just my analysis, and it needs further examination to be confirmed."

He paused for a moment, then asked, "Have you had any long-term discomfort in your nose?"

"Like nosebleeds, soreness and swelling, or difficulty breathing?"

The young woman said with some surprise, "I have allergic rhinitis. For the past few years, I’ve had about five or six nosebleeds a year."

Hearing this, Yan Feifan felt more certain of his analysis.

"Go to the hospital and get that dental CT scan..."

This impromptu examination only delayed Yan Feifan for three or four minutes.

When he, his sister, and Yu Suye returned to the seventh-floor apartment, they saw that a sumptuous dinner was already laid out on the dining table.

A few of the dishes on the table were ones they had never seen before and were clearly not in Du Qiu’s style.

Duan Yu said, a little embarrassed, "I was a bit bored, so I helped Mrs. Du make a few dishes."

"My cooking isn’t very good, so please don’t mind..."

As it turned out, Duan Yu was being honest, not just modest.

The stir-fries she had cooked could only be described as average. They were also noticeably heavy and oily, which made them hard to swallow for the Yan siblings, who were becoming increasingly particular about their diet.

Yan Feifan forced himself to try a bite of each dish and said, somewhat insincerely, "It’s not bad."

"But, Duan Yu, you should focus on resting and recovering. That’s what’s important. Don’t go stealing Mrs. Du’s job."

After a pause, Yan Feifan changed the subject. "Duan Yu, I’ve looked over the information on your comrade’s intracranial blood clot."

"If it’s convenient for him to come to Binhai, have him come to the Affiliated Hospital next Monday."

"If it’s easier to go to Jingcheng, have him go to Baining Hospital, and I’ll perform the surgery for him this Sunday."

Duan Yu said happily, "Mr. Yan, thank you. I’ll tell my comrade the good news right away."

She could also tell that the dishes she made weren’t very popular and decided not to do such thankless work again in the future...

At that very moment, Yu Beihua, led by Pan Jichuan, was touring a small one-bedroom, one-living-room apartment in Shengjing Apartments, east of the Affiliated Hospital.

The small apartment, less than fifty square meters, was quite clean and fully furnished with appliances, a kitchen, and a bathroom. It was move-in ready.

Moreover, the apartment also had a small enclosed balcony, from which you could see most of the Affiliated Hospital.

After a careful inspection and checking the soundproofing, Yu Beihua was very satisfied.

"This is the one. No need to look at any other places."

"Dr. Pan, thank you!"

Pan Jichuan said with a smile, "Don’t mention it. I’m just glad I could help. This apartment has a six-month minimum lease. If you pay every six months, it’s forty-five hundred a month, with a two-month security deposit."

Yu Beihua was slightly taken aback. "Dr. Pan, I have some idea of the rent prices around here."

"A place like this should be at least six thousand, right?"

Pan Jichuan chuckled. "We studied under the same mentor. How could I overcharge you?"

Yu Beihua smiled. "So this is your family’s apartment."

Pan Jichuan gave a sly laugh. "Dr. Yu, let’s be clear, this discount isn’t for nothing."

"When I work late or have a late shift and it’s not convenient to go home, you have to let me crash here for a few hours."

Pan Jichuan added, "Of course, I’ll sleep on the living room sofa. I won’t be squeezing in with you."

Yu Beihua laughed heartily. "No problem!"

"Come on, let’s go get dinner. My treat..."

Before the words were even out of his mouth, his phone started ringing.

Yu Beihua took out his phone and saw it was a call from Yu Youyi.

"Sixth Grand-uncle..."

"Yes, it’s done."

"That..."

Yu Beihua hesitated for a moment, then said, "It was Dr. Peng Zhanghua from Oral Surgery who was the surgical assistant."

"Dr. Peng’s evaluation of the surgery was very high."

"How high?"

Yu Beihua said hesitantly, "He just vaguely said... that it was at the top level in the country. He didn’t say much else."

"The surgical video?"

Yu Beihua said with difficulty, "Sixth Grand-uncle, about that... I have to ask Mr. Yan for permission first."

"Oh, yes, Sixth Grand-uncle, I understand."

Yu Beihua waited for the call to end, then put his phone away and sighed. He explained to Pan Jichuan, who was standing by, "My sixth grand-uncle is Dr. Yu Youyi. He’s the famous oral surgeon from our Yu Family."

Realization dawned on Pan Jichuan. He just nodded and, taking the hint, didn’t say anything more.

Just then, his phone also started ringing.

It was a call from his mom!

"Plastic surgery? Who?... Her again!"

Pan Jichuan’s expression turned mocking. "It’s no problem to have my teacher handle it, but first, tell her to prepare a base surgical fee of two million."

"That high?"

"Mom, it’s not a question of whether the price is high or not right now. It’s that even if you have the money, my teacher can’t be bothered to do it, nor does he have the time."

"Mom, let me tell you, you have no idea how many people are waving their checkbooks, lining up and waiting for my teacher to agree."

"Mom, just tell her this: getting my teacher to even consider it is the most I can do. There’s no way the fee can be any cheaper."

After ending the call with his mother, Pan Jichuan sighed with disgust. "A relative who never stops taking advantage."

"Dr. Yu, let’s go. We’ll go eat..."
