Chapter 549 - 548: Unsettled
Chapter 549: Chapter 548: Unsettled
A little after eleven at night, Yan Ziruo rushed back to their residence at Zuimo Court with Tian Yu and Du Qiu.
The moment she walked in the door, she saw Yu Suye and Feng Jian coming to greet them. "How is Feifan?" Yan Ziruo asked, her voice filled with worry and urgency.
"He’s already asleep!"
Yu Suye replied, then explained, "Sister, the method you suggested really worked."
"He hadn’t even had two sips of the red wine before he started getting drowsy. I coaxed him a little, and he obediently went to sleep."
"This was much more effective than that hypnotic rain sound."
Yan Ziruo murmured in acknowledgment. "I’ll go check on Feifan first."
She hurried up to the attic bedroom and saw her brother lying rigidly on the bed, his brow furrowed in his sleep.
Yan Ziruo adjusted his pillow slightly and smoothed the frown from his forehead. Then she and Xiaoyu, who had followed her, went back down to the living room.
They all sat down on the living room sofa.
Yan Ziruo began, "When Mr. Liu called me, he was a bit vague. He said that the driver who caused the accident died from a mishap during an examination."
"Su Ye, Feng Jian, tell me everything you know."
After exchanging a glance with Feng Jian, Yu Suye said softly, "Sister, Feifan didn’t give us many details either. He just said that he designed a situational reenactment test protocol. But then one of Qin Feng’s brain tumor patients had some complications and needed emergency surgery."
"So the situational reenactment test had to be handed over to Mr. Qi’s two students to carry out."
"Unexpectedly, during the procedure, an unforeseen situation occurred, causing the guy to have a grand mal seizure."
"Feifan said the man bit off his tongue, and the blood flowed into his trachea, causing him to suffocate. Then he went into cardiac arrest."
"In the end, they couldn’t revive him."
Yan Ziruo pressed, "Did Feifan say whether there was a problem with the test protocol he designed, or if there was a mistake or an accident during its implementation?"
"Or did the driver’s own physical condition suddenly take a drastic turn?"
Yu Suye shook her head. "Feifan was in a terrible mood, so he didn’t elaborate."
"Or maybe he isn’t clear on the specific details of what happened himself."
"As soon as he came out of the operating room at the Little Red House, he was stopped by Mr. Liu, Mr. Qi, and Mr. Miao."
"They talked for a while, and then Feifan was sent straight home by Feng Jian."
Seeing Yan Ziruo’s gaze turn to him, Feng Jian quickly explained, "Mrs. Yan, I wouldn’t dare try to eavesdrop on Mr. Yan’s private conversation with them."
"I really don’t know the details."
Yan Ziruo was silent for a minute or two, then said slowly, "I know Feifan’s personality better than anyone. When it comes to treating patients, he always does everything in his power, dedicating his heart and soul to it."
"So, the possibility that there was a flaw in his test protocol... it’s not zero, but it’s highly unlikely."
"I suspect it’s most likely that Mr. Qi’s students made a mistake or encountered an unexpected problem while carrying out the plan."
Yan Ziruo continued her analysis. "Although it’s tragic that someone died, the responsibility Feifan will have to bear certainly won’t be significant."
She scanned the room with the air of a commander and said, "This isn’t a huge problem. We don’t need to worry too much."
"It’s getting late. Everyone should wash up and go to bed. We can talk about whatever it is tomorrow when Feifan wakes up!"
Yan Ziruo then looked at Feng Jian and said, "It’s so late, don’t go back. Just stay here tonight."
She then added a warning, "For the next few days, stick close to Feifan. Prevent the deceased’s family from causing any trouble."
Seeing Feng Jian nod in agreement, Yan Ziruo added, "Qin Feng from the PLA General Hospital said he’s going to recommend a reliable person."
"Once the person he recommends arrives, the two of you can take turns resting, working one week or a half-week on, one off..."
For someone as sensitive to alcohol as Yan Feifan, the power of two sips of red wine was truly immense.
It allowed him, despite his terrible mood, to sleep soundly until dawn, when he was finally woken up by Yu Suye.
"Feifan, it’s Mr. Qi on the phone."
Yan Feifan sat up in bed, rubbing his face hard with one hand while taking the phone with the other.
"Mr. Qi..."
"Feifan, there are a few things I need to discuss with you first."
After a pause, Qee Sheng’s voice slowly came through the phone again. "The situational reenactment test for Zhou Guangji was your proposal and you were overseeing it, but..."
"Inducing the epileptic seizure was something I ordered Zhu Xiangdong and We Xin to do."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan couldn’t help but interrupt, "Mr. Qi..."
"Feifan, you listen..."
Qee Sheng’s voice was heavy over the phone. "I, Zhu Xiangdong, and We Xin have already finished our interviews with the police. That’s what we told them."
"You didn’t do anything wrong, so there’s no need to drag you into this mess."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan was deeply moved.
’Saying that is tantamount to completely absolving me of any involvement. But it means Mr. Qi will have to bear a huge amount of responsibility.’
"I’m their teacher. If the students make a mistake, it’s natural for the teacher to take the blame."
"Besides, I was Zhou Guangji’s attending physician. I couldn’t have avoided this responsibility anyway."
"Whether I take on a little more or a little less responsibility doesn’t make much difference."
At this point, Qee Sheng let out a soft chuckle over the phone.
"Heh... I just remembered something. Feifan, you little rascal, you’re still just a resident physician."
"As a resident, even if you make a mistake, your supervising physician bears the corresponding responsibility."
Qee Sheng continued with a light laugh, "I know the hospital leadership wouldn’t approve your special promotion a while back."
"Feifan, this is actually a good thing. You might as well just be a resident physician and stay out of trouble."
"That title doesn’t affect your current work, but if an accident does happen, it can be your protective talisman."
After another two-second pause, Yan Feifan heard Mr. Qi’s tone turn serious as he instructed, "Today, the police and people from the hospital’s incident department will probably come to you to get a statement."
"You know what to say, don’t you...?"
Accompanied by Yu Suye, Yan Ziruo, and Feng Jian, Yan Feifan arrived at the hospital’s plastic surgery center early in the morning. He was met by Ya Jiaojiao and Zeng Ni, who had also come early, along with Ya Jiaojiao’s family.
Yan Feifan patiently answered the many concerned questions from Ya Jiaojiao’s family and then personally performed a few physical examinations on her.
Afterward, he had a nurse handle Ya Jiaojiao’s hospital admission procedures.
Yan Feifan had originally planned to wait for the trustworthy Mr. Wang Chuan to arrive at work so he could briefly explain last night’s events to him.
Unexpectedly, Wang Chuan didn’t come alone. He arrived at the plastic surgery center with three other plastic surgeons from out of province.
Thus, what Yan Feifan had imagined would be a private conversation turned into a small discussion and meeting among several plastic surgeons.
Moreover, as time went on, more and more plastic surgeons who had arrived early from out of town for the surgical observation seminar the next day began to show up.
This left Yan Feifan overwhelmed and somewhat annoyed.
Furthermore, facing questions from some of the plastic surgeons that sounded like interrogations or tests made Yan Feifan’s temper flare.
However, as the host and the absolute star of the event, Yan Feifan couldn’t just lose his composure and storm off. He had to force himself to put up with them and give perfunctory answers.
This made him, who had been feeling uneasy, actually start to look forward to the police officers, or someone from the hospital’s incident department or disciplinary committee, coming to question him about the details of last night’s accident.
However, Yan Feifan managed to hold out until lunchtime, but not a single person came to find him.
This left his heart in turmoil, unable to find any peace.
’Could something else have happened?’
