Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 530 - 529: Happy for Nothing

Chapter 530: Chapter 529: Happy for Nothing

Monday. A small conference room in the Affiliated Hospital’s comprehensive administration building.

The hospital leadership’s regular executive meeting had been going on for nearly an hour. After discussing all the scheduled topics, Secretary Meng Huaxin took a sip of water and gently set down her teacup.

"Regarding the attack on Mr. Yan last Friday..."

Meng Huaxin took out a document and handed it to Liu Jin beside her, then explained, "The investigation report on the incident from the local police station has been approved by the City Commission for Discipline Inspection."

"The other party is entirely at fault for the whole incident."

"Mr. Yan and our hospital are completely blameless."

After a two-second pause, Meng Huaxin continued slowly, "I have some information to share with you all that has not yet been made public..."

"Some issues have been confirmed regarding the former Deputy Director of the Finance Department, Mr. Wei. The City Commission for Discipline Inspection has formed a task force to conduct a full and thorough investigation into him."

Meng Huaxin waited for the police investigation report to be passed around the conference table before speaking again. "At the beginning and middle of next month, Mr. Yan will be holding two consecutive national surgical observation and discussion seminars at our hospital."

"At that time, renowned plastic surgery, neurosurgery, and brain surgery specialists from all over the country will gather at our hospital."

"The surgical observation seminar in the middle of next month, in particular, is expected to draw one or two hundred medical experts from across the nation. It will be quite a grand occasion."

Meng Huaxin lifted her teacup again and took a sip.

"As things stand, Mr. Yan is now a specially-appointed expert at both the PLA General Hospital and Baining Hospital, enjoying the same benefits as a chief physician there."

"He is also our hospital’s lead representative for the international medical cooperation project with Johns Hopkins Hospital."

"His counterpart in this collaboration is the internationally renowned brain surgeon, Dr. Kevin Vega."

"Everyone, this presents a small problem. Mr. Yan’s official title at our hospital is still just ’resident doctor’..."

Meng Huaxin chuckled. "You are all well aware of Mr. Yan’s talent and abilities, so I won’t elaborate further."

"Having a mere resident doctor teach a surgical observation class to expert physicians from all over the country..."

Meng Huaxin shook her head with a smile. "If word of this gets out, other hospitals will just laugh at us for being inflexible and not cherishing our talent..."

Meng Huaxin’s gaze slowly swept over Deputy Director Hou Jianfeng, who was in charge of medical affairs; Deputy Director Chen Changrui, who handled education and research; and the hospital’s Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary Han Xianghong. She then continued, "Therefore, Mr. Liu and I jointly propose an exceptional promotion for Mr. Yan to the title of associate chief physician."

"I’d like to hear your opinions."

As soon as Mrs. Meng finished speaking, everyone at the table turned their gazes to Deputy Director Chen Changrui.

He held an additional post: chairman of the hospital’s title evaluation committee.

Chen Changrui met their gazes and smiled faintly. "I couldn’t be more familiar with young Yan Feifan’s record."

"From elementary school, through middle school, and all the way to university, it was like he was using a cheat code, skipping grades left and right. He even became the only clinical medicine doctoral student in the medical school’s history to graduate two years early."

"His ability to learn is beyond question."

"However, is it really necessary for us to also grant him an exceptional, grade-skipping promotion in the title evaluation process, which is tied to work performance?"

After a deliberate pause, Chen Changrui added in a grave tone, "I don’t deny that Mr. Yan’s performance since returning to work has been nothing short of dazzling, especially after being in a coma for a year and a half and recuperating at home for another three or four months."

"I don’t need to elaborate on that; we all know it!"

"But I must also remind you all that Mr. Yan has only been back at work for a mere four months."

Liu Jin couldn’t help but interrupt, "Mr. Chen, isn’t the fact that Feifan has achieved so much in just four months proof of his excellence?"

Chen Changrui retorted, "Mr. Liu, I am not denying Mr. Yan’s achievements or his excellent work abilities."

"I just believe we shouldn’t grant another exceptional promotion. It would be like pulling up a seedling to help it grow."

He said earnestly, "Yan Feifan’s academic career has been far too smooth. It’s easy for that to breed arrogance and complacency."

"And as clinicians, we all know that while book knowledge is indispensable, practical experience is even more important."

"The accumulation of this practical experience takes time. It’s built up slowly by treating patient after patient in a clinical setting."

"That’s something you simply can’t fast-forward."

Hearing this, Hou Jianfeng and Han Xianghong nodded in agreement.

"Furthermore," Chen Changrui immediately added, "according to the regulations for title evaluation, we can shorten the required years of service for outstanding performers, but the mandatory requirements for the title review must still be met."

"As far as I know, Yan Feifan hasn’t even completed the most basic departmental rotation training required for a resident doctor."

"Also, in the last two years, he has only published one paper in a core medical journal."

"Mrs. Meng... Mr. Liu..."

Chen Changrui said with a look of sincere earnestness, "A doctor’s work allows no room for ostentation. The slightest mistake can cost a patient their health, or even their life."

"For Yan Feifan’s own good, and to maintain the integrity of the title evaluation process, I feel it’s best not to make an exception for him."

"On the contrary, we should be even stricter with Yan Feifan, ensure his foundations are more solid, and help him go further in the long run..."

When Liu Jin saw Hou Jianfeng and Han Xianghong nodding frequently at Mr. Chen’s words, he knew Feifan’s exceptional promotion was about to fall through.

He sighed to himself.

’I thought this was a sure thing, which is why I leaked the news to the kid in advance. To think it was all for nothing...’

Meanwhile, Yan Feifan was busy in a trauma surgery operating room.

Zhuo Xingfa’s phalloplasty, or penis reconstruction surgery, began promptly at nine in the morning, once again led by the surgical team of Yan Feifan, Chen Yu, and Yu Suye.

This was the second surgery of its kind that Yan Feifan had performed as the lead surgeon. Coupled with the recent breakthrough in his surgical skills, he appeared even more poised and effortless during the procedure.

Xv Fang, wearing a pair of prescription glasses that resembled frog-like diving goggles, also participated in the surgery as Yan Feifan’s assistant.

This was also the first time he had seen Yan Feifan’s complete, detailed surgical technique from such a close distance.

As the hospital’s star figure and now his de facto supervising physician, Xv Fang knew a fair bit about Yan Feifan and had even studied videos of many of his surgeries.

He was, of course, thoroughly impressed by Yan Feifan.

But it was only here, in such close proximity within the operating room, that he could truly feel just how formidable Yan Feifan was.

In their daily interactions, Xv Fang found that aside from being a bit aloof, cold, and proud, Yan Feifan was fundamentally a kind person.

He would always respond when others proactively asked for his guidance.

But the moment he stood at the operating table, Yan Feifan seemed to transform; he exuded an air of supreme authority, as if there was no one else for the job.

Even a top surgeon with an established reputation like Mrs. Yu would yield to him with just a single glance.

Xv Fang had a strong feeling that Yan Feifan was the natural-born king of the operating room.

It was a feeling Xv Fang had only experienced with one or two other doctors at Union Medical College Hospital.

They were the masters of the operating room, the backbone and source of confidence for everyone present.

In their presence, even Death itself would have to take a step back.

Xv Fang’s gaze returned to Yan Feifan’s hands. Their movements, fluid and seamless like flowing water, were like a performance by a Broadway ballet dancer—elegant, artistic, and utterly captivating...

Suddenly, with a THUMP, Xv Fang’s heart filled with a sense of relief and exhilaration.

At this very moment, he felt that being dismissed from Union Medical College Hospital was actually a stroke of luck, a twist of fate that allowed him to witness the rise of a great surgeon...
