Chapter 497 - 496: Private Hospital
Chapter 497: Chapter 496: Private Hospital
As Yan Feifan and the others walked into the courtyard of the Wang Family villa, they saw a woman with short hair, dressed in a casual pantsuit, standing with a warm smile in the foyer.
Yanyan trotted forward and threw her arms around the woman in a hug.
This was undoubtedly Mr. Wang’s ex-wife and Yanyan’s mother, Zhong Xinyi.
She had a chic short haircut, and at one meter seventy, her figure was exceptionally well-maintained, without a single ounce of excess fat.
Her lightly made-up features were quite delicate and beautiful, and she bore a noticeable resemblance to Yanyan.
A closer look, however, revealed fine lines around the corners of her eyes and mouth, betraying the passage of time.
Yan Feifan observed her lower jaw, mentally fine-tuning the surgical plan for Yanyan’s reconstruction.
A moment later, the mother and daughter ended their hug, and Zhong Xinyi turned her attention to Yan Feifan, Yu Suye, and the others.
"Oh, you must be Xiaoyu, right?"
"Why have you been crying...?"
Yu Suye took Tian Yu to the bathroom to clean the sting.
Yan Feifan, Yan Ziruo, Wang Chuan, Zhong Xinyi, and Yanyan gathered in the living room, chatting over tea.
"Mr. Yan, I’ve heard so much about you from this father and daughter over the past few months."
Zhong Xinyi said gratefully, "Mr. Yan, thank you. I’ve seen a clear change in Yanyan recently."
"You’re the one who has filled her with confidence and hope!"
Yan Feifan said modestly, "Mrs. Zhong, you’re too kind."
"I haven’t actually done much so far. Yanyan’s transformation is mainly thanks to Mr. Wang’s efforts."
Zhong Xinyi chuckled. "He’s her father. It’s only right that he does everything he can for her."
She put an arm around Yanyan’s shoulder and sighed softly. "I’ve heard Yanyan’s voice and laughter more in these past few months than in the last several years combined."
"You deserve so much of the credit for that, Mr. Yan!"
Since Yanyan was present, Wang Chuan quickly changed the subject. "Xinyi, how long are you back for this time?"
"It’ll be longer this time. At least ten days to two weeks."
Zhong Xinyi added, "I’m here to conduct a site inspection for a commercial real estate project in Binhai. I’m hoping to secure the deal."
"Which one?" Wang Chuan pressed.
"Fuhai Heaven and Earth!"
Hearing this, Wang Chuan asked for confirmation, "You mean Fuhai Heaven and Earth? The commercial complex near the Affiliated Hospital that’s currently getting its exterior renovated?"
"That project must be worth billions, right? You can’t secure that."
"Have you become that powerful?"
Zhong Xinyi shot Wang Chuan a look. "I’m just the representative sent to inspect it. The person actually putting up the money is someone else."
Wang Chuan let out a soft "oh" of realization. "That makes more sense. No matter how fast your business is growing, it couldn’t be *that* explosive."
Zhong Xinyi huffed. "Wang Chuan, if negotiations go smoothly, I plan to acquire several thousand square meters myself. I’m going to open a private hospital."
"A private hospital?"
Wang Chuan’s brow furrowed. "Xinyi, this is a huge undertaking. Why didn’t you discuss it with me?"
"Opening a private hospital in China isn’t a simple thing to do."
"Besides, with a hospital in a prime location like Fuhai Heaven and Earth, I doubt you could even cover the rent."
Zhong Xinyi glared at him again and said in a low, serious voice, "It will be a hospital primarily for foreigners."
"For the American middle class, even with health insurance, the high cost of a serious illness can be financially devastating."
"The quality of medical care in China is excellent. Our surgeons’ technical skills, in particular, surpass those at many major hospitals in the United States."
"What we mainly lack is some of the most cutting-edge medical equipment, as well as certain experimental drugs and treatments."
Zhong Xinyi took a sip of water from her cup and continued, "While the main flow of international medical tourism is still toward developed countries in Europe and America, China is gradually becoming a destination for some."
"Most importantly, many American health insurance plans will reimburse expenses for medical treatment received abroad."
"I plan to leverage the Affiliated Hospital’s medical resources to cater to the American middle class."
Wang Chuan mulled it over for a moment. "Xinyi, isn’t that a bit too idealistic?"
"Many foreigners are deeply prejudiced against us. Some still think we can’t afford to eat or clothe ourselves, that we don’t have televisions or refrigerators."
"When it comes to something as serious as their health, would they really risk coming to China for treatment?"
Zhong Xinyi looked at Yan Feifan and chuckled. "Isn’t Mr. Yan a perfect example?"
"Every two weeks, an elite member of American society comes all the way to China just to have him perform their surgery."
"Feifan is an exception!"
After saying this, Wang Chuan’s expression suddenly darkened. He demanded, "Zhong Xinyi, don’t you get any funny ideas involving Feifan."
Zhong Xinyi scoffed. "Wang Chuan, don’t be so crude. What do you mean, ’funny ideas’?"
"What I’m proposing is a mutually beneficial partnership, okay?"
"The international medical tourism market is currently worth nearly three hundred billion US dollars, and a huge portion of that comes from Chinese citizens traveling abroad for care."
"Wouldn’t it be great for us to partner up and bring some of that foreign money here instead?"
Zhong Xinyi then revealed, "And I’ll be frank with you, Wang Chuan, I’m already in the final stages of negotiation with an American health insurance provider."
"With that insurance company providing a safety net, a top-tier surgeon like Mr. Yan on board, excellent treatment outcomes, and relatively low prices, I’m confident I can make it a success."
Wang Chuan snorted heavily. "That’s a nice little plan you have, but reality can be cruel."
Zhong Xinyi retorted, "Wang Chuan, I didn’t get where I am today just by dreaming pretty dreams."
"I have the guts to act on them!"
Wang Chuan said mockingly, "Oh, you’ve got guts, all right. More than most."
"If it wasn’t for me, you would’ve..."
He stopped himself abruptly. Turning to Yan Feifan, he warned in a very serious tone, "She and I are separate people. You don’t owe her any favors on my account."
"Feifan, this so-called partnership to make money off foreigners... just hear her out, but don’t let her talk you into anything."
His words made Zhong Xinyi so angry she had the urge to roll up her sleeves and fight, but with her daughter and guests present, she forced herself to hold back.
Just then, Yu Suye and a freshly changed Tian Yu walked over.
"Does it still hurt?"
Facing everyone’s concerned looks, Tian Yu smiled bashfully. "Mr. Yan’s method worked great. It barely hurts anymore."
Zhong Xinyi stood up, smiling. "I knew you would all be here, so I brought some gifts."
"Yanyan, come with Mom and help me get the gifts..."
Tian Yu’s gift was the latest MacBook.
Yu Suye and Yan Ziruo each received a set of all-natural botanical skincare products.
Yan Feifan’s gift, however, was a set of microsurgical instruments from S&T of Switzerland, a world-renowned company in the field.
Inside the long, rectangular case lay rows of microsurgical clamps, forceps, and other instruments of various models, all gleaming with a captivating metallic sheen. Yan Feifan found he couldn’t look away.
Just as a chef loves a perfectly suited set of knives, Yan Feifan was instantly smitten the moment he saw these surgical instruments.
The only thing was, this exquisite set of instruments was damn expensive.
"Mrs. Zhong, this gift is far too valuable. I can’t accept something worth hundreds of thousands."
Zhong Xinyi chuckled. "’A craftsman must first sharpen his tools to do his work well.’ A renowned surgeon like you deserves to use the very best instruments."
At the side, Wang Chuan snorted softly.
Yanyan tugged on Zhong Xinyi’s arm. "Mom, my face will be healed soon. Why don’t you let Mr. Yan perform reconstructive surgery on your scars, too?"
Hearing this, Wang Chuan sighed softly and explained to Yan Feifan and the others, "Years ago, Xinyi was also injured in the attack when she was saving Yanyan."
"She was left with some rather large scars on her legs and arms."
"She has always refused to have surgery for them."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan understood. ’So that’s why Zhong Xinyi was wearing long pants and sleeves in the middle of summer.’
Zhong Xinyi reached out and stroked the top of Yanyan’s head, saying gently, "Mom’s not in a hurry. We’ll talk about it after you’ve fully recovered..."
