Chapter 482 - 221: Holding Nothing Back
Chapter 482: Chapter 221: Holding Nothing Back
This sudden turn of events left Yu Yaoguang and Miao Feichan stunned, their gazes instinctively turning to Fang Shuwen.
They found him just as shocked as they were...
Fang Shuwen was sure he didn’t know the man, so he kept his distance and called out,
"Who are you?"
The man opened his mouth to speak, but his face suddenly went pale. With a sickening SPURT, he coughed up a large mouthful of blood.
He struggled to stay on his feet and managed to force out the words:
"It... was the Young Venerable... who sent me..."
He had barely spoken those seven words before his eyes rolled back in his head and he collapsed.
When Fang Shuwen heard the words "Young Venerable," one person immediately came to mind.
The Celestial Qilin Sword... Chen Qi!
In all his time wandering the Jianghu, he was the only person Fang Shuwen had met who went by the title of Young Venerable.
"He’s one of Chen Qi’s men?"
The words had barely left his lips as he appeared before the fallen man.
He reached out and seized the man’s wrist, securing his pulse point.
With Fang Shuwen’s level of Martial Arts, a common sneak attack was no longer a threat to him.
Still, one could never be too careful. By securing the man’s pulse point first, he could investigate the situation. If anything seemed amiss, he held a vital point in his grasp and could neutralize the man in an instant.
However, as soon as he circulated his Inner Breath, Fang Shuwen knew this man lacked the ability to ambush anyone.
The man was on the verge of death; he couldn’t possibly ambush anyone.
His injuries were so severe that he was almost beyond saving.
It was a mystery what incredible willpower had allowed him to hold on for so long.
As Fang Shuwen’s mind raced, he pressed his palm against the man’s. He simultaneously activated the Muscle Strengthening Scripture Divine Technique and its Healing Chapter. A torrent of Inner Strength poured into the man’s meridians, infusing his heart with a thread of True Qi to keep it beating.
The man let out a muffled groan and slowly regained consciousness.
Seeing Fang Shuwen performing a Qi Transmission, he sighed.
"Hero Fang... don’t trouble yourself."
"My injuries... they’re long past the point of no return..."
"I came here... under... under orders from the Young Venerable... to deliver... a letter to you..."
With his other hand, he pulled a blood-stained letter from his robes.
Fang Shuwen didn’t take it. Instead, he said softly,
"Don’t speak for now."
The man’s injuries were indeed severe. For anyone else, it would have been a hopeless situation.
But Fang Shuwen possessed countless Divine Techniques. This wasn’t a chronic, debilitating injury like Miao Feichan’s had been. With his Martial Arts, saving this man’s life would not be difficult.
However, just as Fang Shuwen was in the middle of healing him, several figures burst from the woods.
Fang Shuwen glanced up, unconcerned.
The newcomers saw Fang Shuwen, of course, but paid him no mind. They rushed forward, and one of them swung his saber in an arc, aiming for Fang Shuwen’s throat.
Without so much as a glance, a faint light flashed. There was a soft SQUELCH, and the saber-wielder’s heart was pierced through by a blast of Finger Power.
His body was sent flying backward.
This stunned the other men. They quickly looked up to see a woman of unearthly beauty sitting atop a black-and-white Exotic Beast, her phoenix-like eyes looking down upon them as if they were mere insects.
While they were still gawking, BANG! A foot appeared out of thin air, kicking one of them and sending him flying.
Before the others could even figure out where their attacker had come from, they heard a series of loud THUDS. The entire group was kicked and sent sprawling, unable to get back to their feet.
The attacker was, of course, Miao Feichan.
She had already begun to cultivate the Lingyun Star-Stepping Strategy, but she was still a long way from mastering its "Star-Stepping Killing Arts." Even so, this novice-level application of the technique was far more than ordinary opponents could handle.
She appeared behind Fang Shuwen, arms crossed, and arched a fine eyebrow.
"Why are you hunting this man?"
The men on the ground knew they were outmatched. They had no idea who Fang Shuwen and his companions were, but it was clear that they couldn’t afford to provoke any one of them.
One of them hastily said,
"It’s a grudge! We have a grudge against this man!"
The man being healed by Fang Shuwen’s eyes went wide with rage. But since Fang Shuwen had forbidden him from speaking, he could only grit his teeth in silent fury.
"Oh?"
Yu Yaoguang scoffed.
"Is that so? And what sort of grudge might that be?"
"Well..."
The man lowered his head, his eyes darting about. Thinking fast, he quickly blurted out,
"He and I grew up together. We were the best of friends as kids. I even married my own sister to him."
"I never imagined that after they were married, he would do nothing but beat and curse her."
"And now, he’s beaten my sister to death over some mistress... There’s a blood feud between us! We can’t live under the same sky!"
"You esteemed heroes are clearly extraordinary people. Surely you won’t shelter a scoundrel who murdered his own wife!?"
The man was indeed quick-witted. He saw that both Yu Yaoguang and Miao Feichan were women, while the only man present was busy healing the injured party.
He said this deliberately, hoping to make the two women, Yu Yaoguang and Miao Feichan, feel a sense of solidarity with his so-called "sister."
The lie was flimsy, but he hoped it might cause some friction among them. If they were distracted, even for a moment, his group might have a chance to escape.
Hearing this, Yu Yaoguang suddenly smiled.
"Is that right? Where are you from?"
"Huh?"
The man was taken aback but quickly answered,
"I’m from Qiuyang City in the Eastern Domain."
"I see. Then I’d love to know how someone from Qiuyang City in the Eastern Domain could have grown up with a man who came from across the sea!"
"You’re spouting absolute nonsense. You deserve to die!"
Yu Yaoguang let out a sharp cry and thrust a finger forward.
