Chapter 7278 Rejection and Warning
Chapter 7278 Rejection and Warning
There was just a single medicinal pill inside the bottle, but the energy fluctuations she felt from it made Yi Nuo’s hair stand on end. Her soul was quivering.
Sensing it carefully, she concluded that this pill contained immense Grand Dao power. She couldn’t even imagine what would happen if she were able to refine its energy.
“This is... for me?” Yi Nuo found it hard to believe. She had a feeling that with this pill, the result wouldn’t be so simple as a mere spiritual awakening of her Supreme Bone.
Long Chen casually shrugged. “If you don’t want it, you can give it ba—”
“Many thanks, Master!” she retorted urgently, putting the pill away as if her life depended on it. Finally, something had appeared that was more important than her pride!
Long Chen smiled slightly. He had refined a total of three such pills. One had run off, but that had also saved him from a calamity.
This pill’s power was simply too terrifying; even Long Chen himself was unable to make an accurate estimation of its effects. He was worried that Uncle Fu wouldn’t be able to endure its terrifying power, so he didn’t want him to take the risk just yet. But now, Yi Nuo had appeared. She was still young and possessed the imperial bloodline of the Golden Wing Heaven Devils. She was the perfect person to test it on. If she succeeded, then he could have Uncle Fu consume it, and even if she failed, considering her power, her life wouldn’t be in danger.
Although Yi Nuo continued to act cold and aloof, she was truly grateful to Long Chen now. She had just discovered that being Long Chen’s servant came with its own benefits.
Long Chen discussed the affairs of the Golden Wing Heaven Devil race with Yi Nuo. If she was a divine emissary, did that not mean that the Golden Wing Devil God could take control of her mind?
However, Yi Nuo stated that such a thing was impossible. The Golden Wing Devil God was at a critical time in his recovery and couldn’t afford the distraction. More importantly, the truth was that the divine emissaries only had access to a bit of faith energy, not the actual core divine energy of the Golden Wing Devil God. They were not as powerful as they could’ve been, but he could not control them either.
To put it frankly, the divine emissaries were nothing but a bunch of employees. He did not need to actually give them his divine energy; so long as people thought they had divine energy, they would be afraid to provoke the emissaries, and that was good enough for all practical purposes. Moreover, the very fact that the divine emissaries existed was an announcement to the world that the Golden Wing Devil God was about to revive. They would be wise not to provoke them.
As Yi Nuo explained the situation, Long Chen learned that the outsider devils were also not a united force. They had their own internal conflicts. In particular, the higher-ups seemed to be fighting over something. But as for what that something was, Yi Nuo was not qualified to know.
The Golden Wing Heaven Devil race’s view of the world was truly simple: power above all. The strong were entitled to everything, and the weak to nothing. This was not something unusual; in fact, they and the other high-tier devil races didn’t have any familial ties to speak of. Parents would watch with their arms crossed as brother and sister killed each other. Only the most outstanding one was worthy of being called their child.
Yi Nuo was the same. The death of all her subordinates was unable to cause so much as a ripple inside of her. And to her credit, she stayed true to that world view even when she was on the other side of the fence. Since Long Chen had defeated her fair and square, everything she had belonged to him. He was stronger; ergo, whatever he said was the ultimate truth.
Long Chen brought Yi Nuo back. Su Yu and the others sighed in relief when they saw him. Although the Earth Barbarians hadn’t approached them, they were still apprehensive. After all, it was not a pleasant feeling to be in the vicinity of an outsider devil army that had just proven capable of slaughtering everyone here. Naturally, they didn’t know that once the Earth Barbarians learned that Su Yu was Long Chen’s friend, they had sworn to protect her.
“Long Chen, it’s all thanks to you again!” Su Yu finally had a chance to express her gratitude. If it weren’t for his timely arrival, all of them would have died here.
“We’re friends. There’s no need for thanks!” Long Chen smiled.
The disciples with Su Yu were all deeply moved to see Long Chen act so friendly. It felt like they were dreaming. Who would have thought that they could be so close to touching the strongest heavenly genius of their generation? What kind of honor was this?
One of the elders stepped forward and bowed deeply. “Lord Long Chen, do you have time to come back with us? Our alliance head has always wanted to meet you!”
The Four Cardinal Alliance had four chiefs—the Eastern, Southern, Western, and Northern Chiefs—but also a mysterious leader ranked above all of them.
This mysterious alliance head was rumored to be a mighty existence from the primal chaos era, but no one knew his name or his current power.
The Four Cardinal Alliance was in a state of rapid growth. Due to this, they had been clashing with both the outsider devils as well as forces of the nine heavens. But despite that, they were still climbing steadily. People guessed that the alliance head was a mighty Heavenly Sovereign, or there was no way that the Four Cardinal Alliance could intimidate so many powerful groups.
“I was planning on visiting, but this battle has shown me that the Four Cardinal Alliance’s situation is not at all what I like. I’ll pass.” Long Chen shook his head.
The experts of the Four Cardinal Alliance all felt embarrassed. He really was direct. The alliance’s growth had caused their ranks to swell with people that couldn’t be fully trusted. While the alliance looked stronger, this was in appearance only; its now-massive arms were just fat, not muscle.
Worse still, the distribution of resources and rewards had some major flaws, and as a result, the factions of the alliance were no longer as harmonious as they used to be. They had started competing with each other, and the result had been visible in the battle just now—many of the participants had been scheming in order to gain more authority within the alliance rather than cooperating. In fact, some of them were secretly forming their own alliances and only obeying the Four Cardinal Alliance’s orders in a superficial manner.
For example, the Heaven Transcension Sword Sect. They simply refused to properly obey Su Yu’s orders. If Long Chen hadn’t come, their whole army would have been wiped out as a result.
Su Yu was incredibly embarrassed. But she was aware that this was the Four Cardinal Alliance’s greatest issue right now, so she couldn’t say anything.
Long Chen looked that elder in the eyes firmly. “The way this battle went is entirely my responsibility. Su Yu had nothing to do with it. She could not make me change my mind. Understood?”
What he meant was perfectly clear: He had threatened them into following his orders, and he had immediately killed those who disobeyed. He was shouldering the full blame.
“Long Chen, I—” started Su Yu.
Long Chen waved his hand, cutting her off. “Also, pass down a message to your alliance head. If the Four Cardinal Alliance continues to develop like this, then sooner or later, we will meet as enemies. And when that happens, I will show no mercy!”
After saying that, Long Chen passed a bottle full of medicinal pills to Su Yu and left with Yi Nuo. The Earth Barbarians left with him.
Su Yu and the others were pale. Long Chen’s words had badly frightened them. But they understood that it was not a threat, but a sincere warning. This was the cruel reality, and they needed to be made aware.
It was a long time before Su Yu recovered. She looked at the bottle in her hand; clearly, this was Long Chen’s promised reward. But she was in no mood for such a thing. Her heart felt empty.
In the end, Su Yu and the alliance members left. Although they had won a major victory this time, they left with a heavy heart.
The only thing that remained behind was a ravaged and empty battlefield.
