My Girlfriend is a Zombie

Chapter 972: Fish Corpse

Chapter 972: Fish Corpse

After waiting for two seconds, Ling Mo controlled the Zombie Puppet and moved towards the direction of the “drip” sound. His actions seemed decisive, but as he slowly approached the destination, even Ling Mo’s main body began to feel tense…

Whether it would be successful or not depended on him…

“Drip!”

A drop of dirty water fell in front of him and then dropped straight into the pool below.

Ling Mo looked down and immediately felt a chill down his spine.

This place… was completely pitch black…

The pool water was almost opaque, with only a layer of moss and mucus-covered concrete above, giving a low and oppressive feeling. The pool was rectangular, about ten meters long, with less than thirty centimeters of space left on both sides against the walls, barely enough for a person to walk. To see the entire pool clearly or to pass through it, one had to walk on this “path.”

Just looking at the greenish ground and the dark pool water beside it made Ling Mo shudder…

“Calm down… You won’t fall in…” After taking a deep breath, Ling Mo controlled the Zombie Puppet to move forward slowly. His back was pressed against the wall, and his hands were carefully placed on the wall… Maintaining this posture, he could stabilize his body while being ready to face any threat.

Although it was thirty centimeters, it felt like walking on a tightrope. Not only was the ground slippery, but the wall behind was also slippery. If he wasn’t sure there were no creatures behind him, he would have suspected that a pair of hands were pushing him…

“This is too difficult to walk on! How am I supposed to run later!”

While cursing inwardly, Ling Mo cautiously observed the pool and its surroundings.

The dark pool water seemed motionless, but every drop of water that fell made Ling Mo’s nerves tense up. After walking three or four meters along the wall, he finally saw something new…

An iron fence. The other end of the pool wasn’t against the wall but was separated by an iron fence. On the other side was a passage with a circular arch, leading to an unknown place. The fence had a noticeable man-made gap, just big enough for an adult to pass through. Judging by the exposed part of the fence, the pool’s depth was at least one meter…

“Don’t tell me I need to jump in…”

The pool water didn’t emit any noticeable stench, probably just rainwater. The fact that it was still dripping proved this… But the problem wasn’t the water; it was the environment under the water!

“One meter deep… What could it hold?” Ling Mo stared at the water, thinking.

If the fence were intact, he would have ignored it…

“Where did those Monsters go…”

“Drip!”

Ling Mo was startled and quickly turned his head.

The area he looked at was still calm, with only a small ripple on the water’s surface…

“Damn…” Ling Mo let out a sigh of relief and leaned his head back slightly…

“Bang!”

With a sudden splash of dirty water, Ling Mo’s eyes widened in shock…

“Plop!”

A large splash erupted on the water’s surface, then slowly returned to calm.

And on that narrow “shore,” the Zombie Puppet was nowhere to be seen…

A few seconds later, the calm water surface suddenly began to churn again. Then, near the fence, a person suddenly emerged.

“Damn, damn!”

Ling Mo wiped his face and looked around in shock.

As the water churned, a pale fish corpse floated up.

The fish was about a meter long, with a mouth full of sharp teeth and scales like iron plates, with edges rusted. Judging by the size of its open mouth, it was easy to guess how it died… Ling Mo kept shaking his right hand, frowning, “Luckily, it didn’t bite my arm off… But this dead fish actually tried to swallow me whole!” ṘÂ𐌽ǒ𝐛Êš

In the moment he was dragged down, Ling Mo was very tense… Although his Arm was bitten, his long-prepared psychic tentacle was thrown out. Just as the big fish was about to suck him in, it suddenly dragged him to the bottom. During the descent, with his entire Arm swallowed, Ling Mo simply tore out whatever was in its abdomen…

“Not bad.” Ling Mo disdainfully tore off his sleeve and, despite his disgust, approached the big fish.

“A catfish?” That was his first thought. Catfish could grow to over a meter even in a sewer… But on closer inspection, this fish seemed different from a catfish. In fact, it seemed different from any fish…

“What is it exactly…”

Ling Mo stared at it for a moment, then felt a chill run up his spine.

“Damn…”

It was the eyes!

The fish’s eyes… looked exactly like human eyes!

Though they couldn’t close, their structure and shape were completely unlike a fish’s. And maybe it was a trick of the light, but after noticing this, Ling Mo felt the fish’s eyes were filled with resentment and anger…

“Damn…”

Since entering the underground, this was the first time Ling Mo felt such a bone-chilling cold…

No matter how much a Humanoid Monster mutated, it was still essentially human. But this fish… its existence was beyond Ling Mo’s understanding…

“What the hell is going on? Wait… Instead of saying its eyes look human, it’s more like a Zombie? Red… the gaze… it’s exactly like a Zombie’s!” Ling Mo suddenly realized. He leaned in to sniff, and immediately frowned. Besides a faint fishy smell, the fish’s mouth indeed emitted a virus scent similar to a Zombie’s…

“Speaking of which, it lives here but isn’t hunted by those Humanoid Monsters… Or do those Humanoid Monsters not come here? No, that’s not right, there’s mucus left by them around here, even underwater… Right, underwater!” Ling Mo stared at the fish, took a deep breath, and dived back down.

When he was dragged down earlier, he only glanced around. Now, re-entering the water, the scene was different…

The stirred pool water had calmed down, and something seemed to be gently swaying below…

“Whoosh!”

In less than two seconds, Ling Mo emerged again. This time, he had something else in his hand.

A semi-transparent membrane, like waterproof fabric… but it had many fine bite marks, and some parts were clearly damaged. Most importantly, the membrane emitted a strong virus scent, especially noticeable after surfacing. Holding it felt like holding a Zombie.

“Good thing it wasn’t my main body…” Ling Mo wiped his face again, relieved not to see any bones underwater… It seemed the fish didn’t grow by eating humans but by eating this membrane. There might have been more fish, but judging by its size, it had eliminated its competitors.

Ling Mo compared the membrane to the fish’s teeth, and it matched. The membrane was relatively intact, while more pieces were torn below…

“So, this membrane is new here?” Ling Mo looked at the membrane, then turned to the fence.

The most obvious conclusion in this situation was-“This membrane floated over from there?”

Judging by the fence’s width, the fish couldn’t swim through. It could only wait here for the membrane to appear, devouring it… Ling Mo was probably the first unexpected prey it encountered…
