Chapter 226 - 225: Who’s Helping Who?
Chapter 226: Chapter 225: Who’s Helping Who?
"Hidden Wind Valley, you dare to collude with the Demon Race and feed innocent people to demons! You deserve to die a thousand times over!"
Three figures came rushing down the mountain path from the summit. As they drew closer, everyone could see they were covered from head to toe in grayish-yellow fur.
Sun Yuting recognized them in an instant.
Demons!
An icy expression spread across her delicate face as she abruptly drew her saber and pointed it at the figure on the rock.
In that moment, she understood everything that had happened in Hidden Wind Valley.
Hidden Wind Valley hadn’t colluded with Blood Evil fiends, but with the Demon Race!
As for the townspeople who had been abducted, their fate was self-evident.
"Demons?"
Wu Chen also studied the three figures rushing down from the peak. They looked like apes, dressed in coarse, short tunics and carrying weapons. A thoughtful expression appeared on his face.
He had only heard rumors about Demon Fiends before; this was the first time he had ever seen one, and he couldn’t help but feel a little curious.
But as he watched from a distance, he saw the powerful aura enveloping the three figures and the solid rock shattering under their feet as they ran and leaped.
A flicker of worry crossed his mind.
He was worried his companions wouldn’t be able to defeat them.
’Their strength should be at the Blood Coagulation Realm.’
With his keen perception, Wu Chen could sense the approximate realm of the Monkey Demons even from a great distance. They were likely no stronger than the Mid Stage of the Blood Coagulation Realm.
He didn’t immediately draw his blade and charge forward. Instead, he turned to Sun Yuting beside him, waiting for his Captain to issue her orders.
’After all, there are seven of us on this team. What would it look like if I fought all three myself and took all the credit?’
’I have to leave some of the glory for the others.’
’That’s the only way they’ll bring me on the next mission.’
"HEH HEH HEH!"
Faced with Sun Yuting’s unbridled rage, the Hidden Wind Valley Elder on the boulder let out a strange cackle. He rose slowly, looking down on the group with contempt.
"And so what if we did?"
"..."
’He’s right. So what?’
Sun Yuting knew further words were pointless. It was time to kill who needed to be killed and capture who needed to be captured. Later, the Demon Suppression Bureau would use its own methods to interrogate them and uncover any other conspirators. Any more talk would be a waste of breath.
She glanced at the five Silver Wolf Captains beside her and gave a swift command.
"The five of you, use your Profound Iron chains to form a Demon Suppression Array. Take down one of them together."
"Yes, Captain!"
Receiving their confirmation, she turned to Wu Chen. "You take one."
Wu Chen nodded. "Alright."
"I’ll take the last one. As for the Hidden Wind Valley Elder, ignore him for now."
With that said, she glanced back at the withered figure on the boulder.
"Even if he escapes these mountains, the Demon Suppression Bureau will put a high bounty on his head. He won’t get far."
"It’s these Ape Demons we need to worry about. All of you, be extremely careful in your respective fights."
"The Demon Race has tough hides and immense Qi Power. You can’t fight them like you would a human warrior."
"I’ll finish my fight as quickly as possible and then help the rest of you take down the other Ape Demons..."
As she spoke, her confidence seemed to waver, and her voice trailed off.
She couldn’t help but recall the scene outside the city: she had struggled against the barbarian spy for what felt like an eternity, only for Wu Chen to fell him with a single kick.
And that wasn’t even mentioning how Wu Chen had still handled the barbarian with ease after he activated his Secret Patterns.
’Who’s really helping who here?’
"In any case, everyone be careful!"
She raised her voice to stress the point one last time. Regardless of Wu Chen’s strength, they were facing three inhuman creatures. It surely wouldn’t be as easy as dealing with that one barbarian.
In the time it took her to issue these commands, the three Ape Demons had charged down the mountain path and were now just dozens of yards away.
With a few more leaps, the three figures landed on the large boulder.
"My three lords, some fools are blocking the path ahead. This old man is no match for them. I must ask you, my Demon Monarchs, to take action!"
The Hidden Wind Valley Elder’s eyes glinted as he cupped his fist in his palm and bowed respectfully to the Ape Demons on the boulder.
He had witnessed the power of these Ape Demons firsthand. They could rely on their formidable physiques to sit in a bone-chillingly cold place for half the night without so much as budging!
It was a testament to their horrifying physical resilience.
’Taking down that surprisingly skilled young man shouldn’t be a problem for them,’ he thought.
"A trivial matter. We’ll just take their heads and use them for rations on the road!"
Being addressed as Demon Monarchs made the Ape Demons preen with satisfaction.
They had never been well-regarded in their own territory. Who would have thought that after crossing mountains and ridges with their clan to come here, they would not only be wined and dined but also be addressed as ’Demon Monarchs’!
What a joyous turn of events.
If their tracks hadn’t been discovered by the Demon Suppression Bureau, this place would have been a rare paradise!
"It’s a shame we have to leave..."
Although reluctant to leave, the slightly larger Ape Demon still cast an indifferent gaze on the humans below.
"We can’t linger here. We need to move quickly, before we drag this out and our pursuers catch up to us."
"Yes, big brother!"
The other two Ape Demons roared in unison, drew their blades, and launched themselves off the boulder with their massive feet, pouncing on the group below.
Compared to the thousand-plus Demon Suppression Guards on the summit, these few humans were hardly worth a second glance.
Besides, if the three of them could fight their way out of an encirclement by the Demon Suppression Bureau, how hard could it be to casually slaughter these few?
’A perfect chance!’
The moment the three Ape Demons moved, a glint of delight flashed in the Hidden Wind Valley Elder’s eyes. Seizing his freedom while everyone’s attention was on the demons, he bolted down the mountain without a second glance.
He had been waiting for this moment. Even though the Ape Demons’ bodies were far superior to any human’s, and they likely had the strength to defeat that youth, he had no intention of lingering here for another second.
The previous night had been filled with too many shocks. Now that he was free, his only thought was to get off the mountain and flee as fast as possible.
"Engage!"
Watching the three figures hurtle toward them, Sun Yuting gave a sharp cry, raised her saber, and charged forward to meet the largest and strongest of the Ape Demons.
At the same instant, the five Silver Wolf Captains swept their hands to their waists, each producing a Profound Iron chain.
The Demon Suppression Guards had their own techniques for tangling with powerful foes, and this team had worked together for years with excellent coordination.
Knowing the immense power of the Demon Race, they quickly fanned out. With a flick of their wrists, five black chains shot out from all angles, snaking toward one of the Ape Demons.
"..."
’Looks like everyone’s picked their target, leaving the last one for me. Not that I have a choice.’
Wu Chen’s gaze finally settled on the remaining figure, which was still in mid-air, blade raised high as it chopped down toward him.
Then, with no other discernible motion, he simply drew his blade, aimed the tip at the descending figure, and took two steps forward.
He had judged the distance perfectly. A flicker of inexplicable panic appeared in the mid-air Ape Demon’s eyes.
It wanted to shift its body to dodge the blade, but suspended in the air, it had no leverage.
SHLICK!
With the sound of a blade sinking into flesh, the demon crashed directly onto the black saber. No matter what killing arts it possessed, it could do nothing but let the blade run it through the chest.
"GURK! HACK!"
A desperate rattling came from the Ape Demon’s throat. The pain in its chest forced out a strange noise, and blood quickly trickled from the corners of its fanged mouth.
If anyone else had taken such a wound, they would have already collapsed, their life fading with every breath.
But even with a blade piercing its chest and damaging its internal organs, this Ape Demon could still lift its head, its eyes locked on the figure before it.
The tenacious life force of the Demon Race was on full display.
Despite its grievous injury, it raised its blade again and, with a whistling slash, brought it down viciously toward the youth’s neck.
"Die!"
