Chapter 670 - 659: A Two-Way Journey
Chapter 670: Chapter 659: A Two-Way Journey
"What the hell is this Puki teleportation technology, it’s really unreliable!" Elvyn grumbled as he leaned against the corner, carefully mending his rear with a fragment of the Broken Sword.
Something went wrong during the teleportation. He remembered that after the light flashed, there was suddenly nothing beneath him, and his rear and both legs were gone, causing him to crash directly onto the Fungal Mat.
Of the four swords on his back, two were also snapped into two pieces.
It wasn’t like teleportation; more like some kind of dismemberment trap.
Additionally, Puki’s body has a life force that’s too tenacious, which isn’t always a good thing.
Once sliced and pieced back together, even if it’s misaligned, it can still be reluctantly used.
He remembered the cannon fodder Puki he had seen fighting against the Empire before; many of them were of this stitched abstract art style.
Some had reversed legs, some had mushroom caps tilted to one side, and others had an extra tentacle; all just needed to be able to charge forward.
But he was different.
He was the Sword Saint, and a misaligned rear would affect his balance, his power exertion, and his mobility agility.
So he could only do as he was doing now, carefully mending piece by piece with his Broken Sword.
Shave off the excess parts, and where there’s a lack, scrape a layer of mycelium to promote natural regrowth.
If he had known it would be such a hassle, he wouldn’t have opted for convenience by piecing them back together; waiting a while longer for it to grow back naturally would have been better.
The sword blade shaved off the last protrusion.
Elvyn’s movement suddenly halted.
Tentacles loosened the Broken Sword and soundlessly coiled around the hilts of the two intact swords by his side.
The sword was slowly drawn from its sheath without making a sound.
A shadow suddenly descended from the sky, wielding a battle axe to cleave the air, aiming right at the center of his mushroom cap!
The axe blade hit the ground, but the Sword Saint Puki’s figure was already standing three meters away.
The ambushing Half-Vampire chuckled, "You’ve got some skill, huh, no wonder they want us..."
Before he finished his sentence, a blood line appeared from his jaw to between his brows, then he fell down straight just like that.
Yet this was only the beginning; from all directions, amidst the shadows of the trees, ten-odd figures of the Demon Race and hundreds of Battle Puki charging alongside them burst out simultaneously.
Though unclear about the situation, Elvyn had no intention of holding back.
With short legs stepping on moonlight, sword lights crisscrossed, blood mist and mycelium permeated.
In less than a minute, the twelve ambushers and the Battle Puki they brought along had all perished.
Especially the Puki; understanding the Puki’s resurrection capability, the Sword Saint ensured these enemy Puki were chopped exceptionally finely.
Elvyn flicked blood off his sword and turned his mushroom cap slightly, gazing toward the giant tree not far away.
From behind the trunk, there came a rhythmic clapping sound.
"Puki-Puki-Puki." Number Ten emerged from behind the tree, followed by two trembling attendants, "As expected of the strongest Xiao Fourteen, not a single flaw to be found."
Elvyn lowered his sword tip but didn’t sheathe it, "Thirteen, what do you mean?"
"What can I mean, just saying hello." Thirteen’s tentacles gently interlaced in front of its torso, "After all, we’re going to continue collaborating."
"You just need to tell me the direction where the cultists are, nothing else needs your involvement." With that, the Sword Saint Puki departed on his own.
There is also a fungal network here, making face-to-face communication unnecessary.
Thirteen shrugged its mushroom cap, transmitted several positions to the Sword Saint through the fungal network, then supplemented, "Don’t approach my territory, and certainly don’t cause any disturbance; here, Puki are still the Demon Race’s best friends after all."
This is what it actually wanted to convey.
Xiao Fourteen was transmitted by the Mushroom Lord, and naturally, Thirteen dared not cause trouble for the Mushroom Lord.
But fearful of Xiao Fourteen’s potential for chaos, it intended to showcase its strength and seize the initiative.
Unfortunately, during the Red Dragon’s assault on Fungus Castle, Thirteen was already away from Mushroom Garden, else it wouldn’t have employed such methods had it witnessed the Sword Saint Puki’s prowess.
Once Sword Saint Puki left, only Thirteen and the apprehensive Mengya and Stinky remained in the scene.
The two demons had awoken from their initial dreams of ascent and riches, reaching the pinnacle of demonic life.
Since Thirteen demonstrated the explosive mushroom technique on Old Goblin’s knee, they understood their current predicament.
They could only tread carefully as genuine attendants, also praying against any conflict between Thirteen and the Duke.
Unfortunately, the more they knew, the fainter their hope became.
Especially now, facing a newly-arrived ultra-powerful Mushroom Race, who easily sliced those warriors stronger than them as if chopping vegetables.
And Eleanor wasn’t aware of this at all, even thinking that Mengya and Stinky were diligently monitoring Thirteen per orders.
Mengya felt that the mighty Eleanor might eventually fall under Thirteen’s short feet...
...
Sword Saint Puki leapt onto the tree crown at the forest’s edge, observing the closest Demon Race city from afar.
Although it was merely a small city, the Sword Saint easily discerned the infamous Blood Beast Factory within it.
Strictly speaking, it was the first time for the Sword Saint to see the actual structure.
Before its current life, he would at most sneak onto Sigmund’s territory via the High Castle Fortress for some raids; it was impossible to directly attack Eleanor’s rear territory, naturally precluding him from seeing the real Blood Beast Factory, known only from various intelligence reports.
Only after becoming a Puki did the Sword Saint have no worries about infiltrating the Empire’s territory like this.
This indeed was like what the boss often said: Puki goes wherever it wants!
Through several non-human reconnaissance abilities, the Sword Saint took a full view of the factory’s interior situation, his tentacles involuntarily coiling around his sword handle.
It was hard to say which he despised more between the Empire and the Cult; given the chance, he wanted to eliminate both.
However, he didn’t just rush into the city to demolish the factory.
Well before setting out, the boss had cautioned that a secret salvation plan was underway here, but it wasn’t time to initiate it yet.
Even if itchy tentacles, the Sword Saint chose to bypass the city and head towards the several coordinates provided by Thirteen—to first tackle the Hand of Death would do.
...
Meanwhile, Moonlight and Jini were discussing how to contact the Mushroom Race.
Given the location of their hideout, they could only consider contacting Thirteen in Eleanor’s territory.
Yet, Eleanor evidently valued the Mushroom Race greatly.
She not only placed Thirteen atop the tower but arranged the tightest defenses; even with some cultists lurking in Eleanor’s domain, they had no chance to contact Thirteen.
The High Priest, since the prior mishap, was physically deteriorated further.
For the upcoming ceremony, they couldn’t let the High Priest expend more effort on other matters.
One person and one cat, frowned for a long time, considering several methods, all somewhat reliant on luck with low success rates.
Moonlight sighed, "We can only give it a shot, meow. Can’t just wait for the Mushroom Race to seek us out, or hope shouting on the Fungal Mat would get a response, meow?"
Jini nodded, "We can only have the cultists try their luck, maybe catch Thirteen when it ventures out."
