Chapter 1073 Summoning calamity
Chapter 1073: Chapter 1073 Summoning calamity
Liang Qingshan exploded forward, his figure turning into a streak of yellow lightning as he shot off the city wall and made a beeline for the veiled young woman standing atop the monstrous creature’s back.
No matter what, he was a proud Dao Emperor. A captain of Blackstone Haven’s city guard. If he allowed himself to be humiliated here, in front of all his subordinates, and by a mere Dao King at that, he might as well dig a hole in the ground and bury himself.
Besides, the woman was too arrogant for her own sake.
Instead of hiding herself behind her army, the monster whose back she was standing on was at the forefront, standing just a few dozen meters away from the city gates.
If he took her out first, Liang Qingshan thought coldly, wouldn’t this battle end right then and there?
Why bother fighting two thousand skeletons and a hundred of those massive black armored knights if he could kill their commander in a single strike?
That was the thought fueling the man’s rage as lightning crackled around his feet before he shot forward. The man’s body blurred, moving at a speed his subordinates on top of the city walls couldn’t even follow with their gazes, and in the blink of an eye he appeared right in front of Liu Mei.
It was one simple, horizontal saber strike aiming for the veiled woman’s neck. A simple strike that would take her life in an instant.
But Liu Mei didn’t even flinch.
She just glanced at the incoming attack and narrowed her eyes faintly, before her gaze moved past the saber’s edge and fell on the infuriated Dao Emperor behind it.
And yet, that was as close as Liang Qingshan managed to get before a pair of huge dark-crimson greatswords appeared in front of him, almost out of thin air, crossing like a guillotine and blocking his path.
Liang Qingshan’s eyes widened.
Two black skeletons, each wreathed in thick, almost palpable death qi, now stood between him and Liu Mei, their greatswords locked against his saber. Their eye sockets burned with purple flames, and for a moment even the proud Dao Emperor didn’t know how to react, as a wave of disbelief crashed through him.
Unfortunately for him, Liu Mei didn’t give him time to recover.
The two skeleton kings were pushed back several meters by the force of his blow, but they held. They had blocked his strike head-on.
And just as Liang Qingshan processed that unbelievable scene of two peak Dao King monsters stopping his attack... a deafening roar exploded from under his feet.
"ROOOAAAR!!"
The Death Eater’s hideous mouth opened beneath him, splitting impossibly wide as a tidal wave of death qi exploded outward, and the beast tried to swallow him whole.
This time, Liang Qingshan reacted almost instantly.
He shot backward, lightning exploding around his feet as the creature’s jaws snapped shut just inches away from his chest, before his saber flashed once more.
At this point, the proud Dao Emperor realized he had underestimated the veiled woman. Sure, he hadn’t infused his Dao of Lightning behind his previous saber strike, but still, a pair of monsters at the peak of the Dao King realm shouldn’t have been able to block it. Even a peak rank 6 magic beast would have been severely wounded if not outright died from that attack!
But Liang Qingshan wouldn’t make the same mistake again. Lightning erupted along his arms as he decided to go all out!
A blinding arc of golden light tore across the battlefield, aiming straight for the grotesque creature beneath Liu Mei.
"Die!" The angry Dao Emperor roared as his saber slash exploded with all his might!
BOOOOM!
The saber-light cleaved the Death Eater cleanly down the middle, from one end of its mouth to the other, splitting the massive creature into two rotting halves.
And yet... the creature didn’t fall.
It didn’t writhe.It didn’t scream.
Instead, before the man’s horrified gaze, dense death qi surged out from Liu Mei and wrapped around the creature’s torn body, before the gigantic monstrosity began to regenerate at a speed visible to the naked eye.
This time, Liang Qingshan was actually shaken.
But before he could say anything, a thunderous tremor ripped across the battlefield, and Liu Mei’s entire army moved.
Two thousand white skeletons surged to the sky, their green soul-embers blazing with killing intent, followed by more than a hundred undead knights, as they all lunged at the stunned Dao Emperor.
They surrounded him in an instant.
A wall of death, pressing in from all directions.
Liang Qingshan’s heart sank as the skies darkened with undead forms closing around him.
His earlier arrogance completely vanished, replaced by a cold, sinking realization.
He wasn’t facing a crazy Dao King or some random assassin who was here to take his life.
He was facing a walking calamity.
"Damn it... damn it all!" Liang Qingshan snarled through clenched teeth, his voice trembling ever so slightly.
The proud Dao Emperor had never felt more humiliated before.
He was on the backfoot against a mere Dao King, who had boldly come to take his life. But even worse, Liang Qingshin also felt... fear!
Even in life-threatening battles, even when facing magic beasts stronger than himself, he had never experienced a pressure so suffocating... so absolute... so cold.
This woman was actually terrifying. He couldn’t treat her as a mere Dao King anymore.
He was truly in danger right now!
His grip tightened around his saber as he fended off blow after blow from the skeletons and the black-armored knights who had surrounded him from all sides. Although the blows weren’t strong individually, there were just too many of them.
So many that they ended up overwhelming him!
Finally, once one of the skeletons’ bony swords managed to slash through his back and leave a small wound, Liang Qingshan finally snapped.
If I stay here, I may die. The thought stabbed through his mind like a blade of icy clarity.
And the moment it did, Liang Qingshan made a decision.
He gritted his teeth and allowed some of the weaker skeleton attacks to strike him as he thrust his free hand inside his robes.
His fingers closed around a cold, smooth object.
A small jade token, barely the size of his palm, carved with a black mountain sigil, appeared in his hand, and the middle-aged man hurriedly raised it above his head and spoke,
"Senior Xia!" he roared, his voice cracking under the pressure of the encroaching undead."Senior Xia, please help me!’’
The jade token vibrated at once, shuddering violently in his grip.
A powerful pressure blasted outward from the tiny jade, sweeping across the battlefield like an invisible hurricane. Even the skeletons and the undead knights froze for half a heartbeat, while Liu Mei’s eyes narrowed behind her veil.
Liang Qingshan did not stop to think. He poured every ounce of his spiritual qi into the jade.
CRACK!
The jade splintered down the middle.
In that instant... the world dimmed.
The clouds above Blackstone Haven twisted unnaturally, as if sucked into a vortex.
The qi in the air turned murky, deep, almost suffocating.
Even the skeleton kings in front of Liu Mei seemed to turn slower, as a terrifying fluctuation descended from somewhere deep within the city.
And with it came a vast, fathomless, ancient aura.
The aura of a Sovereign.
Liu Mei felt it instantly. Her body tensed.
Without any hesitation, she grabbed the jade pendant around her neck and crushed it, as a protective layer enveloped her body before she and the Death Eater both vanished from the battlefield.
At the same time, the clouds split and a streak of white light tore through the sky, descending like a falling star.
In the blink of an eye, a figure appeared above the city walls. He was tall, thin, and draped in flowing white robes embroidered with mountain crests. His hair was silver-gray, tied loosely behind his head, and his eyes shone with a deep sharpness that pierced straight through the battlefield.
The moment he arrived, every guard fell to their knees in unison.
"GREETINGS TO LORD XIA!" the city guards all shouted simultaneously.
Even Liang Qingshan was no exception. The skeletons and undead knights around him were already frozen, suppressed by the aura of a Sovereign, so the man had nothing to worry about as he followed suit.
Senior Xia did not spare a single glance at the kneeling guards.
His gaze locked straight onto Liang Qingshan.
"You used the Emergency Jade for something like this?" Senior Xia asked slowly, his tone neither gentle nor angry.
But Liang Qingshan couldn’t help but lower his head. He knew that senior Xia was aware that his opponent was a mere Dao King, and yet he, an early-stage Dao Emperor had publicly admitted defeat that way.
The man wanted to retort but senior Xia just waved his hand, indicating for him to stay silent, before the old man turned his gaze towards the distance.
Then, he shook his head and said expressionlessly,
"Don’t think you can leave as you please after acting this arrogantly in my Blackstone Haven." As his voice rang out, the man calmly lifted a finger and just pointed at the empty horizon... before a ray of white light shot from his finger and pierced through Liu Mei’s back.
