MMORPG: Rebirth as an Alchemist

284 The First World Boss

Global News!

“The first World Boss is spotted in the Continent of the Humans! According to reports, it can be described as a giant blob of green jelly. But make no mistake! This World Boss is more than what its appearance made it out to be.”

E-Sport News!

“As we speak, top guilds and players are forming into groups, preparing to defeat the first World Boss. Golden Phoenix, Black Lion, and White Unicorn, to name a few, have all gathered hundreds of their best players to hunt this giant blob of mass destruction!

“Amongst the thousands of groups who want a piece of this living treasure, who will come out victorious in the end and claim first blood of the first ever World Boss?”

Every time Ren scrolled on his phone, the news of the World Boss took up most of his newsfeed. It seemed like the whole world talked about the World Boss, so he couldn’t help but laugh to himself.

Good. Good. The more publicity the green blob of jelly gained, the more World Conqueror would become popular. Soon, its footing in COVENANT would be unshakable that not even the existing powerhouses could threaten them.

Ren repressed his laughter, shoulders shaking.

From the side, Helen and Troy exchanged looks with each other and shook their heads.

“Ren, don’t you have class?” Helen asked, interrupting Ren’s thoughts.

“We have an emergency school break,” he replied before finishing the rest of his breakfast. He kissed his parents on their cheek.

“I’ll rest in my room for now. In four hours, we’ll go to the hospital for your monthly check-up.” After saying that, Ren got inside his room.

When the door slammed, Troy leaned to Helen and asked, “Is there such a thing as an emergency school break?”

Helen shrugged. “I don’t know. Perhaps it’s related to some illness.”

She wasn’t wrong. There was indeed an illness that affected both young and old, contaminating most of the population.

And that illness was called COVENANT, and the variant was named First World Boss, First Blood.

Classes were canceled because each class only had most one or two students present. Those selected few were usually the class’ top two students, competing against each other with attendance and grades.

Workers and students were calling in sick left and right. Even the usually bustling malls and sidewalks were barren. It was like the world was suffering under another pandemic. And this pandemic was none other than COVENANT.

Top corporations were even gambling on who would slay the World Boss first. The money COVENANT had brought into the market was already astronomical, so the prize for killing a World Boss would surely be equally astronomical as well.

Having considered this, the government was even planning of declaring events like this as a public holiday. If they couldn’t stop it, then it would be best to ride the hype and earn from it.

In COVENANT, in the vast land of Arcadia, Jibblinplip was slowly approaching the nearby Hamil Village, which was located in the Renais Empire of the continent of Humans.

The massive green slime appeared on the horizon, introducing itself to the villagers in a way they could never forget.

Soldiers were evacuating the residents while word was sent to all the neighboring towns and kingdoms, eventually reaching the Emperor himself.

The inhabitants weren’t just going to stand and watch either. All the NPCs capable of combat within the area gathered, preparing to take down the looming threat.

While waiting for the soldiers and the Emperor’s battalion to arrive, they would try to delay the World Boss as much as possible. When reinforcements come, the threat would be rid of once and for all.

There was a crater between the village and Jibblinplip. Everyone hoped that it would slow the huge blob, but upon reaching the vast chasm, it slid right into it.

The sudden shift in its center of mass caused the entire ooze to lurch forward, carrying it beyond the far edge of the chasm and spewing ooze droplets forward, creating more ooze minions that spread out to look for food.

At this rate, it would only take minutes before it reached the village.

Players strategized how they’ll deal with the green jelly while waiting for its next move.

It seemed like everyone was playing safe, and so far, no one dared to take the initiative of attacking the enemy. Some unknown guilds went ahead and fought it without a plan, and the outcome was . . .

Total annihilation.

They were instantly engulfed by the giant blob in one swipe, getting wiped out just like that.

On the contrary, the others had the mindset of vultures, waiting for the major guilds to fight against it, and when the World Boss’s HP was low, they would kite it.

However, everyone had the same dilemma.

How were they going to approach such a monster?

If it had been that simple, they would have fought against it the moment they first saw it. But it wasn’t, and most of the parties were thinking of the same method to deal with this predicament — wait for others to take initiative and observe from the side.

Even the top guilds were at a standstill, strategizing around Jibblinplip’s limited information.

Amidst all of this, Ren and his group arrived on site. The massive swarm of players was a sight to behold. From afar, they looked like ants sprawled across the battlefield. The setting was like hundreds of thousands of soldiers waging war on a single monster.

“Whoa, look at all these players! Have you ever seen these many before?” Leonel whistled. “It feels crowded all of a sudden.”

“Is that . . .” Evie’s eyes were on another impressive sight. “Jibblinplip?”

“How on earth did such a massive creature fit in that teeny tiny hole?” Ragnar questioned, not really interested in the answer.

While others were busy watching the scene in front of them, Ren was busy checking out the top guilds.

Black Lion’s core members were clad in custom-made black armor from head to toe. Ren bet that Scar had spent millions on it. They probably prepared it for the upcoming guild war, but they had to use it in advance due to the appearance of a World Boss.

The same could be said for Golden Phoenix, whose members wore golden armor, while the White Unicorn’s players were clad in white robes and metal plates.

There were also the Ferocious Ravens, the Great Dynasty, and of course, the Sleeping Dragon, just to name a few.

Ren pushed his enmity into the back of his mind and focused on the problems at hand. All major guilds had split their armies into multiple groups, which was a wise decision. Each team had at least one or more groups of tankers, DPS, and Support.

However, it was do or die once engaged with a World Boss. Either you wipe the Boss, or the Boss wipes you. There was no in-between.

On the bright side, unlike other World Bosses, Jibblinplip wasn’t interested in killing players or inhabitants as long as it wasn’t attacked first. The big blob was more inclined to consume things rather than wasting time on them.

Another good thing about this World Boss was that some combatant NPCs would chip its enormous HP.

So the rough strategy was to wait for the inhabitants to deal with most of the damage and then take the last strike.

That was the plan. Simple.

Though the instance they lost focus and the inhabitants killed it before they did, all the rewards get nulled.
