Chapter 6706: Sending Off Xiahou Jue
“I deserve death as well.” Jimo Qianzhou also kneeled to Chu Feng and offered his weapon with both hands.
“Please sentence me to death.” Wuma Hanshuang also kneeled to Chu Feng.
Both Chu Feng and Eggy were stunned. They had seen countless people begging for their lives, but it was rare to see people begging to be killed.
Baili Zilin’s actions were even more exaggerated. He kneeled beside his father and kowtowed profusely to Chu Feng, saying, ‘Young master, I was wrong. I coveted your accomplishment of awakening the Netherworld Embryo Spirituality Summoning Altar. My father was merely fooled by me. Please spare my father!”
Baili Zilin cried sorrowfully. It was disgusting to see his tears mix with his snot. This was the most sincere side of him that Chu Feng had seen, and he was not begging for his own life but his father’s.
To be honest, Chu Feng was moved.
But Baili Xukong suddenly stood up and lifted his son by his hair as if grabbing a chick.
“If not for your jealousy, we wouldn’t have viewed the young master as our enemy, and everything wouldn’t have been such a mess. You are the culprit behind everything! I’ll execute you first!” Baili Xukong said as he lifted his God Armament saber.
Everything happened so quickly that only the six neutral elders had time to react. Two quickly hugged Baili Xukong in place, two snatched his God Armament saber over, and the remaining two attempted to pull Baili Zilin to safety.
But Baili Xukong was grabbing Baili Zilin by his hair—there was no way for the neutral elders to bring the latter to safety.
Baili Zilin was in so much pain that he clenched his teeth. Even more tears and snot flowed down his face.
“Baili Xukong, your son has committed many wrongdoings. We won’t speak up on his behalf. However, we should leave this matter for the young master to judge,” Ting Yun said.
Baili Xukong finally calmed down and looked at Chu Feng. He looked so obedient that Chu Feng had little doubt that Baili Xukong wouldn’t hesitate to murder anyone he told him to.
“Baili Xukong, will you listen to my commands?” Chu Feng finally spoke up.
“Young master, my life is yours,” Baili Xukong replied right away.
“Release your son.”
Baili Xukong released Baili Zilin.
Baili Zilin was scared out of his wits. He had known that his father revered the Netherworld Master, such that even his own loyalty toward the Netherworld Master was his father’s influence. However, he didn’t expect his father to attempt to kill him.
“I am surprised by everything that has happened today. I didn’t expect my grandfather to have such deep ties with the Netherworld Sect, and I didn’t think that you would remain so loyal to him even though he isn’t here. Despite our grudges, you didn’t hesitate to side with me after learning about my identity.” Chu Feng bowed deeply to the Netherworld Sectmembers.
“You mustn’t, young master!”
All the Netherworld Sectmembers hurriedly fell to their knees and kowtowed deeply.
That moved Chu Feng even more. He could understand why Baili Xukong and the six neutral elders were so loyal to his grandfather, but to think that even the juniors like Baili Zilin and Chen Hui, who had never met his grandfather, would display such loyalty as well.
This was the tradition propagated by the Netherworld Sect, beliefs that were passed down from one generation to another. These beliefs bonded them tightly, allowing them to become a mighty force within the world of cultivation.
Very few powers had such unity.
“You may get up now. Let’s not talk about the past anymore. From now on, the Netherworld Sect is one family with the Chu Clan Alliance. Is anyone opposed to that?” Chu Feng asked.
“We approve!” all the Netherworld Sectmembers raised their hands and exclaimed.
Some even raised both their hands out of enthusiasm, but it looked as if they were surrendering instead. It was a funny sight. Even the grim Chu Feng couldn’t help but smile.
Who could have expected the widely-feared Netherworld Sect to be such a loyal bunch? No one could have imagined that they would have such an adorable side to them.
Just then, Chu Feng thought of one person.
“Has Xiahou Jue already...” Chu Feng asked.
“Ah, I nearly forgot about that fellow.” Cang Li waved his sleeve, and Xiahou Jue appeared before Chu Feng.
“Xiahou Jue.”
Baili Xukong, Wuma Hanshuang, Jimo Qianzhou, and the others rushed forward and swarmed him. They had been comrades for many years, and they were as close as brothers. They were pained by his plight. Wuma Hanshuang even shed tears.
Xiahou Jue’s soul had become as thin as air. He was at his limit.
“Is there a way to save him?” Chu Feng asked Baili Xukong and the six neutral elders.
“Young master, he used our secret skill. There is no way to survive the backlash,” Baili Xukong replied.
“What about the sacred item?” Chu Feng asked.
“Right! The sacred item might work. We still don’t know what kind of power it harnesses, but it may be capable of saving Xiahou Jue!” Wuma Hanshuang exclaimed.
The eyes of Baili Xukong and the others lit up.
“Let’s give it a try,” Chu Feng commanded.
The Netherworld Sect immediately made their way toward the sacred item.
Just then, Xiahou Jue grabbed Chu Feng’s sleeve and said, “Young master, it’s too late.”
HIs feeble and hoarse voice made it clear that he wouldn’t survive till the sacred item’s awakening. He showed no fear despite being on the verge of death. Instead, he smiled tenderly at Chu Feng.
“Young master, there are some words I have been wanting to tell you but dare not to. Young master, you are truly an incredible person. I have never seen any junior as tenacious as you. I’m not talking about your talent but your fearless personality, as well as your damned charisma.
“You emerged from the Ancestral Martial Galaxy without any backing, but somehow, you won over so many followers and became the most famous prodigy in the world of cultivation. Looking at you reminds me of Lord Netherworld Master’s younger self. The two of you are too alike.
“I have always wondered why such a junior isn’t in our Netherworld Sect. If you could take the reins, I am certain that our Netherworld Sect will rise to greater heights just as it did under Lord Netherworld Master.
“My dream came true. You really are one of us. You are Lord Netherworld Master’s grandson. I... cough cough cough...” Xiahou Jue got so excited that he began to cough violently.
His soul wavered intensely, looking as if it would extinguish at any moment.
Chu Feng placed his hand on Xiahou Jue’s dantian and infused into him his Netherworld Embryo’s energy. Baili Xukong and the neutral elders followed suit, but Xiahou Jue’s condition didn’t improve.
Xiahou Jue grabbed Chu Feng’s hand and smiled. “Young master, please don’t waste your strength. I know that I won’t survive this ordeal. But I’m glad. Death doesn’t frighten me; it is dying in vain that scares me. I was able to lay down my life to protect young master. There is nothing more worthwhile than that. If you ever meet Lord Netherworld Master, please tell him that I, Xiahou Jue, am not a coward.”
His smile continued to linger, but his life force had faded.
“Farewell, Xiahou Jue,” Chu Feng murmured.
“Farewell, Lord Xiahou Jue!” the Netherworld Sectmembers roared.
The Netherworld Sect watched with heavy hearts as Xiahou Jue’s soul drifted into the distance as a wisp of smoke.
