Chapter 8: A Gate World Passage Appears at Home
Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A Gate World Passage Appears at Home
The Awakening ceremony was still going on.
But Fang Xiu had already left the school.
After all, he had successfully Awakened and performed a successful Sacrifice.
For a student with an SSS Level Talent, the school was very lenient.
Besides, he had left with the principal.
"Principal, are you walking me home?"
They had already walked some distance from the school.
The principal was still walking beside Fang Xiu.
This left Fang Xiu feeling a bit exasperated, so he had no choice but to speak up.
"It’s on my way!"
Yue Tianrui said, smiling.
Then it seemed to dawn on him. "You don’t think I’m trying to find a deserted place to kill you for your treasure, do you?"
After all, Fang Xiu had just obtained a Magic Staff through Sacrifice, and now the principal was following him.
It was easy to get the wrong idea.
Fang Xiu remained silent, but his meaning was clear.
’I’ve always taken this route. How come I’ve never run into you before?’
’Now that I’ve just had my Awakening and gotten a Magic Staff through Sacrifice, *suddenly* it’s on your way?’
"Ahem, it really is on my way!"
Yue Tianrui coughed, a hint of exasperation in the sound.
Then he said to Fang Xiu, "I’ll head off first, then."
"Oh, right, one more thing. Lu Yu’Er’s family has some influence. You should be careful."
Yue Tianrui took a few steps, then turned back to add the reminder.
Fang Xiu nodded slightly. "I know!"
But he wasn’t worried in the slightest. Inside the city, it was still very safe.
The only place one had to be on guard was inside the Gate Worlds.
But...
’When the time comes, it’s hard to say who’s the one that needs to be on guard!’
Fang Xiu thought.
He was already planning to take the opportunity to Sacrifice Lu Yu’Er in three days, during the school’s organized training expedition into the Gate World.
"Alright, I’m off then!"
With that, Yue Tianrui walked straight ahead and made a right turn.
’Is it really on his way? He’s not going to ambush me up ahead, is he?’
Fang Xiu was still a little uneasy.
After all, his own route home was also straight ahead, then a right turn.
After a moment of hesitation, Fang Xiu decided against taking his usual route.
When he reached the intersection, he glanced around and saw no sign of Yue Tianrui.
However, Fang Xiu didn’t make the turn, walking straight past the intersection instead.
Further ahead, he turned left, taking a different road.
Although this route was twice as far, Fang Xiu chose the longer path for his own safety.
’This should be safe now!’
After several more turns, Fang Xiu finally arrived near his home.
Then he turned left.
"Huh? Fang Xiu?"
Just as he made the turn, a familiar voice called out from behind him.
"Principal?"
Fang Xiu turned, eyeing Yue Tianrui warily.
He never imagined that after taking so many twists and turns and going such a long way around, Yue Tianrui would still catch up to him.
"What a coincidence! Shouldn’t you have been home by now?"
Yue Tianrui asked curiously.
Fang Xiu hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "I stopped to buy something."
"I see. Are you heading home now?"
Yue Tianrui asked.
"Yes."
Fang Xiu nodded.
His eyes were filled with wariness.
After all, there were no security cameras and very few pedestrians on this street.
If Yue Tianrui wanted to make a move, this would be the perfect place.
"Then let me walk you home. Besides, I’m curious to see what kind of family could raise a genius like you."
Yue Tianrui said with a faint smile.
A Talent was usually inherited from one of the parents, but an SSS Level Talent was clearly something extraordinary.
Yue Tianrui was also somewhat interested in Fang Xiu’s parents.
"My... my home is a bit humble. Maybe another time, Principal. I can have my parents book a hotel, and we can talk there."
Fang Xiu never let his guard down.
’Something isn’t right with this principal.’
’Could it really be such a coincidence?’
"Is that so? It would be rather presumptuous of me to just drop in. Alright, let’s schedule something for when your parents have time!"
Yue Tianrui hesitated for a moment, then surprisingly, he nodded in agreement.
Only then did Fang Xiu breathe an inward sigh of relief.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, he headed home.
When he reached his front door, he looked left and right. Seeing no sign of the principal, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
He keyed in a passcode at the door and stepped into the villa.
What Fang Xiu didn’t know, however, was that around a corner not far away, a bald, middle-aged man was standing there.
The corners of his mouth lifted into a smirk.
"Humble, he said? In this day and age, anyone who can afford a villa is anything but ordinary."
Yue Tianrui muttered.
Then, without another move, he turned and left.
...
"What the hell? What happened here?"
Fang Xiu had just stepped back into the villa. Before he could even let out a sigh of relief, he was stunned by the scene before him.
From the outside, the villa had looked completely normal.
But inside, everything was destroyed.
’Did I get robbed?’
Fang Xiu’s first thought was a break-in.
But a closer look revealed that wasn’t it at all.
Everything in the house, valuable or not, had been practically destroyed.
’What’s that?’
Just then, Fang Xiu saw a light shimmering in the middle of the living room.
As he drew closer, he saw that the light swirled like a vortex.
If Fang Xiu wasn’t mistaken, this was the thing that had destroyed his house.
’This shape... it looks like... a Gate?’
The more Fang Xiu stared at it, the more familiar it seemed.
He felt like he had seen it in a textbook before.
’Thinking about it carefully, isn’t this a Gate World Passage—a Gate?’
"What the hell? Why would a Gate World Passage appear in my house?"
Fang Xiu was starting to lose his cool.
After all, there was no telling what lay on the other side of this Gate World.
The dangers it held were completely unknown.
Moreover, Gate Worlds were home to Demon Beasts. If a Demon Beast were to emerge from it...
Fang Xiu would be the first one it encountered.
’But why is this Gate so small?’
Fang Xiu wondered, looking at the Gate before him.
It was much smaller than the ones described in his textbooks.
It was less of a gate and more of a window.
’Given the size of most Demon Beasts, it’d be pretty difficult for one to pass through.’
Fang Xiu mused as he stared at the Gate World Passage.
But it was hard to say for sure.
After all, there were plenty of smaller Demon Beasts in the Gate Worlds.
It was just that these types of Demon Beasts usually had relatively low Attack Power.
But if it were a snake- or lizard-type Demon Beast, perhaps... it really could slip through this tiny Gate World Passage.
and into Fang Xiu’s house.
’A Demon Beast hasn’t already come through this Gate, has it?’
Fang Xiu hurriedly searched the house.
He finally breathed a sigh of relief. Although the living room was a mess, the bedroom and other rooms hadn’t been destroyed.
He also found no trace of any Demon Beast.
’Should I go in and take a look?’
Just then, a bold idea took root in Fang Xiu’s mind.
He didn’t know when this Gate World Passage had appeared in his house.
But since the Gate had appeared and no Demon Beasts had come through, perhaps... it was just an ordinary, harmless Gate.
’I’ll go take a look!’
He didn’t hesitate for long. Everyone had to face the dangers of the Gate Worlds eventually.
Facing it now was just as good as facing it later. After a moment of thought, Fang Xiu made his decision: he would enter the Gate World!
