Chapter 35: A Kind of Intangible, Rule-like Power
Chapter 35: Chapter 35: A Kind of Intangible, Rule-like Power
Silver-devouring Scorpions lay curled up all over the flat ground.
A good number of them were beginning to glow.
These were all the ones that would drop loot.
Materials, equipment—and if he was lucky, even Top Grade materials and equipment. Of course, these were only Tier One Demon Beasts, so even if they did drop equipment... it would be very Low Level, probably for use between Levels 1 and 9.
So even if some equipment dropped, Fang Xiu would just have to sell it.
’Seventeen of them. A total of seventeen Silver-devouring Scorpions are glowing!’
Fang Xiu did a quick count.
Kajimi had unleashed just one Skill and, in a matter of seconds, killed a total of thirty-five Silver-devouring Scorpions.
Even though they were only Tier One Demon Beasts, her power was undeniable.
If the rest hadn’t fled so quickly and Fang Xiu hadn’t stopped Kajimi from pursuing them, the number of kills would have at least tripled.
’Here it comes!’
After a moment, a flash of light erupted from the body of one Silver-devouring Scorpion.
Immediately after, a small, silver item appeared on the Silver-devouring Scorpion’s body.
"It’s a piece of Tier One Scorpion Silver."
Kajimi walked over, retrieved it for Fang Xiu, and said in a soft voice.
Fang Xiu gave a slight nod.
[Scorpion Silver: A Tier One Refining Material. When used in weapon crafting, there is a 5% chance of granting the weapon the Scorpion Poison Skill.]
’Just average!’
In Fang Xiu’s opinion, this Refining Material was nothing special.
Granted, it was great for a weapon to gain an additional skill, especially a Poison Attribute one.
But a mere five percent chance of success was far too low.
Fang Xiu wasn’t going to go to the trouble of crafting a weapon just for that.
After all, the other materials weren’t cheap either.
Besides, that five percent chance was calculated independently and didn’t stack.
The probability for each weapon was always five percent.
Even adding two pieces of Scorpion Silver to a single weapon would still result in a five percent chance, not ten.
"The second one is Scorpion Silver, too!"
Just then, Kajimi brought over the second item that had appeared.
Her speed was incredible. Fang Xiu couldn’t tell if she was using her Flying ability.
One moment, he was watching her sashay away with a graceful, cat-like gait.
The next, she had appeared in front of a Silver-devouring Scorpion.
An instant later, she was back at Fang Xiu’s side.
As the glow faded from more and more Silver-devouring Scorpions, items were left in their place.
Now, Kajimi was moving so fast she was nothing but a blur.
Fang Xiu stared for a moment, but all he could make out was a red blur streaking past.
Then, Kajimi was back in front of him.
She handed all the loot over to Fang Xiu.
’Nine, ten, eleven, twelve...’
Fang Xiu counted. Of the seventeen Silver-devouring Scorpions that had dropped items, an astonishing twelve had dropped Scorpion Silver.
’The rest... three herbs?’
Fang Xiu saw that among the five remaining items, three were herbs.
If he gave them to an Awakened with the Alchemist Profession, they could probably be made into some sort of potion.
Of course, due to their low Level, they still wouldn’t be worth much.
’This is... Scorpion Gold! I actually got a Rare Material!’
Fang Xiu looked at the material in his hand, which was similar to the Scorpion Silver.
Scorpion Silver, however, was entirely silver-colored.
Whereas this Scorpion Gold was golden.
[Scorpion Gold: A Tier One Rare Material. When used in weapon crafting, there is a 90% chance of successfully granting the weapon the Scorpion Poison Skill.]
’Worthy of a Rare Material. Ninety percent... If it still fails, my luck must be absolute garbage!’
Even with a ten percent failure rate, reaching ninety percent meant he was almost guaranteed to succeed within three tries.
If he kept failing... that would just be some seriously bad luck.
However, Rare Materials were considerably more expensive.
After all, the drop rate was only a fraction of a percent. For Fang Xiu to get a Rare Material from just over thirty Silver-devouring Scorpions meant his luck was truly excellent.
Normally, Rare Materials only dropped from the strongest in a pack of Demon Beasts, or the king of that Demon Beast type.
Only by killing them did you have a chance for such an item to drop.
It was exceedingly rare for one to drop from an ordinary Demon Beast.
And yet, Fang Xiu had.
His luck was exceptionally good.
The last item was a piece of Equipment.
’A dagger?’
Fang Xiu took it in his hand and made a few experimental swings.
It wasn’t a good fit.
[Poison Scorpion Dagger]
[Level: 1]
[Attack Power: +1%]
[Skill: Scorpion Venom (20% trigger chance)]
’Hmm... This really is the real world, things are a little wild. If an item like this appeared in an online game, these stats would be absolute garbage!’
Fang Xiu shook his head in resignation after checking the dagger’s stats.
He had made a decent profit from this haul.
Whether it was the Poison Scorpion Dagger, the Scorpion Gold, or even the herbs and Scorpion Silver, everything could be sold for a good sum of money.
All in all, he had tested his Succubus’s Power and made a hefty profit.
The only pity, for Fang Xiu, was that there was nothing suitable to Sacrifice.
"Let’s go. We’ll make one more score before heading back."
Fang Xiu looked off into the distance.
That area over there was still part of the school’s Gate World, a place where students went to train.
However, very few students ever went there.
The school had made it clear that the Demon Beasts in that region were much more powerful.
Nearly all of the Tier Two Demon Beasts were concentrated in that zone.
The Fang Xiu of the past would never have even considered going to that area.
After all, a Sacrificial Master had to run from even a Tier One Demon Beast.
How could he possibly dare to stir up trouble in the territory of Tier Two Demon Beasts?
But now, Fang Xiu was different.
The Succubus at his side had insta-killed all those Silver-devouring Scorpions.
"By the way, Kajimi, what’s the duration on your Skill?"
The description hadn’t been very detailed when Fang Xiu had checked her stats.
"Hmm, with my current Spiritual Power, I can probably maintain it for about a minute. But if my Rank increases, it will last even longer!"
Kajimi tapped her chin with a slender finger, then smiled as if she had just remembered, and spoke.
’One minute?’
Fang Xiu nodded thoughtfully.
Still... it was a little strange hearing the term "Spiritual Power" come from the mouth of a Succubus.
’But this Skill...’
’It’s a growth-type Skill?’
Fang Xiu pondered this, then asked, "So how can I help you Advance?"
"Hmm... I do need something, but I... I can’t remember."
The Succubus frowned and suddenly clutched her head with both hands. "Oww, Master, Kajimi can’t remember."
"Then just take your time and try to remember later. There’s no rush."
Fang Xiu said with a resigned sigh.
’It seems some sort of invisible, rule-like Power has sealed part of Kajimi’s memories.’
’Perhaps this is part of the fun of this world.’
"Let’s go!"
With that, Fang Xiu started walking toward another area.
"Yes, Master!"
Kajimi replied obediently and followed behind Fang Xiu, heading toward the other area.
