Chapter 454 - 202: Storming the Royal City
Chapter 454: Chapter 202: Storming the Royal City
"For the Empire!"
"For the Beast God!"
At Prince Feiseli’s command, the Centaur Warriors raised their axes and roared.
Though some Centaurs had just fled, it did nothing to damage their morale. On the contrary, it only made them feel ashamed.
They were Prince Feiseli’s Prince’s Guard. Their sense of identity was naturally different, and this feeling of superiority was now coming into play.
Prince Feiseli led the charge.
The entire Centaur Royal City was very poorly designed, with no proper main roads to speak of.
Prince Feiseli had to weave his way through the city before finally reaching the North City Gate.
Although many Centaur soldiers had already left, a good number of Warriors had chosen to stay. This brought Prince Feiseli a measure of relief.
However, these Centaur Warriors were fighting a losing battle, retreating as they fought, completely unable to stop the Bear Race in front of them.
Seeing this, Prince Feiseli began to analyze the situation.
He had little experience commanding in a war, but as a rational person, seeing the scene unfold prompted Prince Feiseli to think.
’The Bear Race Warriors must have blocked the passage, which triggered the retreat.’
’So, if I just let the Bear Race charge in and spread out, won’t our Centaur side have the numerical advantage? We can then use that advantage to slowly wear them down and wipe them out.’
With this in mind, Prince Feiseli made his decision.
"Fall back! Let them in!"
Upon receiving Prince Feiseli’s order, the Centaur Warriors fighting at the city gate were all stunned, not understanding the reason.
’Aren’t we supposed to be defending the city? Why are we suddenly being told to retreat?’
Even Robson, who was inside the passage, was taken aback when he heard this.
’What kind of strange order is that?’
It didn’t take long for Robson to figure it out. ’The guy on the other side must be channeling Earl Uman!’
The Centaurs’ thinking wasn’t hard to guess. They simply wanted to let the enemy in to fight them.
But the problem was, their job was to defend the city. How could the defenders just give up the city gate?
’The best strategy right now would be to get on the city walls, block the passage, and then use other means to wear down the troops that enter the city.’
’On second thought, their idea isn’t entirely without merit. After all, they don’t know that the Gnolls and earth goblins under me, Lord Robson, are a rather formidable fighting force.’
"The Prince has given the order! Fall back!"
"Fall back!"
Once Prince Feiseli gave the command, the Centaur Warriors who had been desperately holding on could finally take no more and scattered in retreat.
"Charge in! Aside from the Gold Coin Magic Crystals, you can take any loot you find!" Robson roared.
How could Robson pass up such a golden opportunity?
Against Centaurs who couldn’t get up to a full run, even in a pitched battle, it was hard to say who would come out on top.
Hearing this, the eyes of all the Gnolls and earth goblins revealed a crazed fanaticism.
Why had they willingly followed Robson all this way? Was it really all because of his so-called title of Great Power Envoy?
Titles were secondary. Only a sufficient share of the spoils was eternal! This was especially true for aggressive races like the Gnolls and earth goblins.
Along the way, Robson had already amply proven that he, Lord Robson, was a man of his word.
The Gnoll and Goblin Warriors did not doubt the truth of his words for a second.
"For the Envoy! For the Great Power!"
"Victory to the Great Power! Charge!"
Robson’s single sentence stirred up a storm. The Gnoll and Bear Race Warriors charged excitedly into the Centaur City.
An ominous feeling washed over Prince Feiseli.
’These Gnolls seem different from the ones I’ve seen before...?’
’Why do I get the feeling this unit of Gnolls is completely different from the others?’
However, the current situation didn’t allow Prince Feiseli the luxury of overthinking. The enemy was charging right at him. What was there to hesitate about?
"For the Empire! Crush them!"
Prince Feiseli raised his arm and shouted. Seeing the time was right, he led the Prince’s Personal Guard in a charge.
"For the Empire! For the Prince!"
The Centaur Warriors raised their iron axes once more.
In truth, it could hardly be called a charge. There wasn’t even a hundred meters between the two sides.
At that distance, the Centaurs had barely gotten into a gallop before they clashed.
By now, the one thousand members of the Bear Race had finally all charged into the Centaur Royal City.
"For Lord Robson!"
"You bastards! Eat my axe!"
During this time, Robson had shown the Gray Rock Bear Race no small amount of favor.
On the battlefield, they were the last to be sent in, but when it came to benefits, they were always first in line.
The greatest characteristic of the Bear Race Warriors was their huge appetites.
And Robson had let them eat to their hearts’ content.
Many Bear Race Warriors were moved to tears with gratitude for Robson. Being an honest race, the Bear Race Warriors had been constantly looking for a way to repay Lord Robson’s kindness.
Now that they had the chance, how could they not fight with all their might?
The Centaur Prince’s Guard encountered the same problem as General Ries had before.
The distance was too short; they couldn’t build up any momentum for a charge.
It was less of a charge and more of a run-up before they engaged the Bear Race Warriors in a chaotic melee.
At this moment, the Bear Race Warriors revealed their battle-axes. Battle-axes weren’t particularly expensive, and Robson had basically managed to equip every member of the Bear Race with one.
For the Centaurs, however, things were a bit better this time. They weren’t being bottled up at the gate by the Bear Race Heavy Infantry.
Perhaps because they weren’t trapped, or perhaps because the Prince’s Personal Guard was indeed a bit stronger, the two battle lines actually locked into a fierce struggle.
Seeing this, Robson knew it was time to send in the Gnolls.
"Elite First and Second Regiments! Get ready!"
Robson yelled.
The First and Second Regiments were his two units composed entirely of fifth-rank Gnoll Warriors.
The Gnoll and earth goblin Warriors had been waiting for a long time, their hearts pounding at the thought of the generous rewards.
"The Great Power Envoy will be victorious!"
"Charge! Let’s show these Centaur bastards what we’re made of!"
"Victory! Victory!"
The Gnoll and earth goblin Warriors charged out, pouring through the gaps between the fighting Gray Rock Bear Race and the Centaurs.
Prince Feiseli’s heart skipped a beat at this, but ultimately, he didn’t think too much of it.
’They’re just a bunch of Gnolls. It shouldn’t be a big problem, right?’
"Seventh and Eighth Squads, fill the gap!" Prince Feiseli commanded.
Two Centaur units immediately charged toward the breach.
The Prince’s Guard was organized into squads of two hundred. The Seventh and Eighth squads were lower-ranked, composed of less capable warriors.
’Two Centaur units should be enough, right?’
Prince Feiseli thought.
He didn’t worry for long. Prince Feiseli turned his attention back to the Gray Rock Bear Race.
