Chapter 441 - 189: Tiger Race Elites
Chapter 441: Chapter 189: Tiger Race Elites
Valentino marveled.
She often found herself wondering just how Robson’s mind worked.
The strategy itself wasn’t difficult, but it required a flexible application of the rules. Not just anyone could come up with such a clever ploy, especially not under such urgent circumstances.
"This way, it’ll be foolproof," Valentino agreed.
The method was perfect in every way, except for one thing: it went against the spirit of chivalry. But then again, what chivalry was there to speak of when dealing with a pack of Beastmen?
"You go find Moer. I’ll write to the Royal Capital.
You’re a well-known figure in the Royal Capital now. It’s best if you avoid this kind of stain on your reputation," Valentino said.
In the kingdom’s current political climate, there might be some who didn’t know Valentino, the new Earl Fengman, but there was absolutely no one who didn’t know Robson, the formidable general of the kingdom—especially after Louis III had personally vouched for him.
Even if Valentino and Robson were to marry in the future, Robson would almost certainly be the one to take the lead.
The two went their separate ways.
In any case, an opportunity to push into the Beastman Grassland didn’t come around every day.
If they succeeded, their names would be immortalized for generations to come. It would be a great boon for their descendants; people would open their family records and marvel at the deeds of their ancestors.
Now that the opportunity was here, neither Valentino nor Robson wanted to let it go.
....
After Valentino left, a few more generals came seeking news. Robson simply relayed the information to them and said nothing more.
For the most part, they were just there to be entertained.
By now, the army’s generals had fallen into a state of complacency. With General Robson taking the lead, what was there for them to worry about?
The only ones under Robson’s command who were willing to use their heads were, perhaps, Earl Uman and Baron Boyang.
This, perhaps, was the effect of serving under a renowned general.
Robson left his tent and headed straight for the Mountain Rock Bear Race’s camp.
The camp of the Mountain Rock Bear Race was situated outside of all the human encampments.
Although everyone had grudgingly accepted the Mountain Rock Bear Race, they all still harbored some reservations deep down.
Fortunately, the Mountain Rock Bear Race was thick-skinned and not particularly bright; they paid no mind to the humans’ petty reservations.
As soon as Robson arrived at the camp, he was greeted enthusiastically by several Bear Race Warriors.
There wasn’t a single member of the Mountain Rock Bear Race who didn’t know Robson; they all knew he was the one who had saved them from the demon beasts.
Sometimes, even Robson had to admit to himself, ’If only all humans had minds like the Mountain Rock Bear Race. They’re so easy to fool.’
When Chief Moer heard that Robson had arrived, he immediately dropped what he was doing to receive him.
"My Lord, good afternoon!"
Chief Moer mimicked a human gesture, performing a clumsy afternoon greeting.
Robson chuckled softly.
"No need for formalities, Chief. I’ve come today because I have a favor to ask."
Robson got straight to the point.
Chief Moer scratched his head.
"What is it, My Lord? Just give the order!"
"Recently, my scouts reported that a Tiger Race unit is approaching from the north. It looks like they’re coming to relieve the Centaurs," Robson said.
"The Tiger Race? That could be trouble. But if you need us, My Lord, each of my Mountain Rock Bear Race Warriors can definitely take on two of them."
Tsk!
Those words made Robson feel almost guilty for planning to use Chief Moer.
’What honest Soldiers.’
Of course, things inside the Beastman Empire surely weren’t like this. The very fact that these honest people had actively fled the Empire was proof enough.
"No need. I have other plans for the Bear Race Warriors.
We don’t know if this Tiger Race unit is a vanguard or their main army, and we are severely short on manpower right now..."
Robson laid out his entire plan in detail.
He hoped that when the time came, Chief Moer would step forward and help him persuade the other Beastman Race captives.
He was also completely forthright about the fact that if the plan failed, those Beastmen would be killed.
Although he certainly needed an intermediary to persuade the Beastmen to join his army, Robson didn’t want to ruin his relationship with the Mountain Rock Tribe over it.
Leaving aside the great use he still had for the Bear Race’s Druids, the honest nature of the Mountain Rock Bear Race alone made them a perfect fallback plan.
One might see Lord Robson’s current glory and forget that everyone has their downfalls.
If he, Lord Robson, were to stumble in some future political struggle within the kingdom, it would be good to have people to take him in should he need to flee to the Demon Beast Mountain Range.
Robson had originally thought that, given Chief Moer’s character, he would refuse outright.
He hadn’t expected Chief Moer to agree so readily.
"So that’s the plan! Of course, it’s no problem!" Chief Moer said.
Seeing Robson’s astonished expression, Chief Moer immediately understood what was on his mind.
"My Lord, you may be worrying needlessly."
"We, the Mountain Rock Bear Race, were driven out by those very races within the Beastman Empire."
"Back then, we were guarding our city when the Human Race charged onto the Beastman Grassland. We were unable to defend it and had no choice but to flee."
"But many coveted our complete Druid lineage and treacherously attacked us from behind."
"When dealing with others, we might still value integrity."
"But the Beastman Empire... that filthy nation should have vanished from this world long ago. The bloodthirsty faith of the Beast God should have been wiped from existence."
Chief Moer spoke with his teeth clenched in hatred.
This genuinely surprised Robson. He knew the Mountain Rock Bear Race harbored some resentment toward the Beastman Empire, but he had never imagined it was this intense.
"In that case, my thanks," said Robson.
"My Lord, what are you saying? We have sworn loyalty to you, so naturally, we will obey your commands!" said Chief Moer.
Upon returning from the Mountain Rock Bear Race’s camp, Robson summoned his officers. To maintain secrecy, he only called upon his own inner circle.
Bo Yang, Ais, Claude, Turalyon... these were the veterans who had followed him from the very start. The most recent among them had joined back at Qimo Fortress.
Even Earl Uman was not invited. Robson was well aware that with his current power, he couldn’t completely control an ambitious man like Uman. Uman was only so obedient now because he had been thoroughly beaten down.
When he explained his plan to Bo Yang and the others, even they were somewhat repulsed by it, which just went to show how deep the animosity between the Franks and the Beastmen ran.
Of course, it was merely repulsion; no one raised any objections. On the contrary, they all began offering suggestions to refine the plan.
Robson’s authority in their hearts was absolute, forged on a path of blood and battle. Most of them owed their current status to him.
After some discussion, Robson decided to leave the army under Bo Yang’s command. This time, however, Robson left Ais behind as Bo Yang’s second-in-command to help him manage the troops.
Robson was now fully appreciating the benefits of having a subordinate with a general’s talent. Thinking of Ais’s frightening potential, Robson was eager to see him develop.
As for Robson himself, he took Claude with him, appointed Turalyon as acting commander of the First Regiment, and assigned an unexpected person as the acting commander of the Third Regiment.
Orosen. He had been a captain in the First Regiment, joined Robson’s Personal Guard after becoming Extraordinary, and was promoted to the First Regiment’s adjutant for his outstanding performance. Now, he was being promoted directly to acting commander of the Third Regiment.
It was well known that of the eight regiments under Robson’s command, the first three held special significance; everyone knew they were the strongest.
For a time, many wondered if he would be the next Ais.
Immediately after, Robson called everyone together, made his arrangements, and, using a plausible excuse, set off with the First Regiment, the Cavalry Team, and the Second Regiment.
He didn’t even take the Fengman Knight Order. After all, the "Knight Lords" of the Fengman Knight Order would likely object to such a task.
