Chapter 437: Chapter 185: The Royal Court in Crisis

"A commotion? Could it be the humans attacking?"

Wei’an’s expression changed drastically. Though the old Chieftain was aged, as a former Golden Tier expert, his senses had not dulled with time. On the contrary, they had only sharpened with the passing years.

Wei’an was just about to order the entire force to high alert when he felt tremors from the ground, and his face instantly paled.

The humans were definitely on their way, and there had to be a lot of them. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a massive commotion.

If even Wei’an could feel it, the old Chieftain naturally perceived it even more clearly.

Damian’s fingers trembled, and he was gasping for breath.

"Quick! Have the Warriors grab their weapons!" Chieftain Damian said.

"We’re not running? Father, what Warriors do we have left? Are you confused? All the Warriors followed the king to the central front!" Wei’an said with a look of misery.

But to his surprise, Chieftain Damian’s expression hardened.

"No Warriors? I have been to the human Royal City...

"Those humans—men and women, old and young, even children and infants—they are all warriors. If humans can do it, why can’t we?" Chieftain Damian roared.

"Father, times have changed. Do you really want us to fight to the last one?"

"Yes! We will fight to the very last! The Franks could do it. Their King may have been incompetent, but his subjects were full of spirit!"

"If the Franks could do it, why can’t we?"

"Didn’t you say there are three other tribes nearby? Go inform them! Tell them the enemy is coming," Chieftain Damian said.

Wei’an was on the verge of dropping to his knees, but Chieftain Damian remained stubbornly insistent.

Just then, a stout Centaur Warrior rushed up to the two of them.

Chieftain Damian sensed the newcomer’s approach.

"Who is it?"

Wei’an went forward to talk with him. The two said something to each other, and then Wei’an returned.

"It’s a chieftain from a neighboring tribe. He came to discuss how we can deal with the humans."

Hearing this, Chieftain Damian’s face lit up with a smile.

"I knew it! The brave warriors of the Empire are not all dead yet!

Wei’an, my child, don’t be afraid. The Emperor is wise. When you went to the city for the meeting in my stead, didn’t you say that Prince Feiseli has gathered many tribes?

They won’t just stand by and watch," Chieftain Damian said with a laugh.

As he spoke, Chieftain Damian grew more excited.

"These humans are courting death. With His Highness Prince and us coordinating, for them to dare launch a charge now... what is this if not suicide?" Chieftain Damian laughed.

Hearing this, Wei’an didn’t know what to say.

However, the neighboring chieftain’s talk of a joint resistance had given him a small sliver of confidence.

’My father is beyond persuasion, and my clansmen won’t listen to me. What can I do?’

"Form up! Quickly! Form up!"

Wei’an looked behind him at the last of the tribe’s fighting force. In fact, they were the last of the tribe’s people.

If they died, the tribe would cease to exist. And who knew how many Warriors were even left on the central front.

The so-called "Warriors" of the tribe heard Wei’an’s shouts and looked around in confusion, clutching crude stone tools in their hands.

It took them a long while to react. Some started to clamorously move toward the center, while others even argued about who they should be gathering around. They had no training, no combat ability, and didn’t even know what formation to take when ordered to form up.

At that moment, Wei’an wanted to rush back to his father again. ’Sending this lot to the battlefield... isn’t that just sending them to their deaths?’

Damian watched all of this, said nothing, and simply began to fall back in silence.

RUMBLE RUMBLE...

"Human Cavalry! The humans are charging!"

Wei’an looked back. On the endless plains, a single human Cavalryman appeared on the horizon, followed by a whole flood of them covering the hills and fields.

"Father! The humans are here! We have to run! Our people are no match for them. How can we possibly defeat an army like this?" Wei’an swallowed hard.

"When facing human Cavalry, you must not show fear. The moment you do, it’s all over.

Have the Soldiers turn around and prepare to attack!"

"What?"

Wei’an wondered if he was the one going senile. What had he just heard? Attack?

"Attack? With just us?" Wei’an asked in disbelief.

"Warriors, prepare!"

The old Chieftain Damian ignored him and picked up the iron hammer in his hands, a weapon he had used long ago.

In truth, it wasn’t a very good weapon. Chieftain Damian had given his best one to his eldest son, who was still at the central front.

The so-called "Warriors" of the Centaur Tribe looked at each other in dismay.

Before they came, no one told them these humans were so terrifying. Looking at the commotion in the distance, it was clear this was not an enemy they could possibly defeat.

"Charge!"

Chieftain Damian charged forward alone.

The other Centaurs behind him just looked at one another. No one made a move.

Only Wei’an moved forward, trying to stop his father who was on the verge of losing his mind.

Seeing the father and son both take action, other clan members slowly began to follow.

.....

A strange scene unfolded on the battlefield. Robson and Valentino led the Heavy Cavalry in a charge, fully intending to annihilate this enemy force in one fell swoop.

But when Robson saw the enemy before him, he realized he had completely over-complicated things.

’These aren’t Warriors. This is just a crowd of the old, the weak, and the young.’

The enemy formation was in disarray. Their leader was a Golden Tier Centaur Warrior, but the golden avatar behind him was faint and indistinct.

Robson couldn’t even be bothered to shout a battle cry. He just yelled, "Charge!" and the entire human Cavalry Corps began to advance.

The moment the two armies clashed, the old-looking Golden Tier was run through the abdomen by Robson’s spear. There wasn’t much to say about the rest of the battle.

The human Cavalry charged forward, and the Centaurs they encountered couldn’t put up any fight.

There were about a thousand Centaurs, and halfway through the fight, they began to flee.

Robson led his army in pursuit.

Of the three Centaur Tribes, only one had advanced. The other two had fled before Robson’s army even got close.

After ordering his Knights to give chase individually, Valentino stopped and looked at Robson.

"What do we do now?" Valentino asked.

Robson frowned.

This was far different from what he had expected. These Centaurs showed no combat capability whatsoever.

’Then again, I don’t know if this is some enemy ploy to feign weakness.’

"In any case, from now on, if we find any Centaurs within sixty li of the Royal City, we dispatch the army to attack.

If there are none, then we leave it. The main objective now is still to breach the Centaur King City."
