Chapter 301 - 62: Crushing Battle
Chapter 301: Chapter 62: Crushing Battle
The two members of the Personal Guard were ruthless, even carving out their flame-seared skin with their own knives.
"All priests and Warlocks! Quickly, use the Binding Technique! Entangle that phoenix!" Augus roared.
By now, Augus had recognized Huang Na’s true form. The color of her flames was wrong, but their properties were identical! She was a High-Tier Magical Beast—a phoenix!
Furthermore, judging by the phoenix’s size, her power could not be underestimated! Augus could only order the Warlocks to tie up Huang Na first.
If Augus had more time, he wouldn’t be in such a wretched position. But unfortunately, the human Cavalry was about to arrive at any moment.
If he let the phoenix run wild and burn down the surrounding forest, they would lose their only means of defending against the human Cavalry.
Unfortunately, Augus had overestimated his army’s strength.
As the corps stationed on the eastern front, they were already poorly equipped. To make matters worse, the Beast Emperor had previously siphoned off a portion of their forces. The entire army couldn’t even scrape together ten Warlocks and priests, and Augus himself was the highest-leveled among them.
Several golden nets shot toward the sky, but the phoenix merely swayed its body, and a single gout of flame incinerated the Binding Technique completely!
Phoenix Fire burns all!
’If only the Beast Emperor hadn’t made such a foolish move! If only the human Cavalry wasn’t hot on our heels! We wouldn’t be so helpless!’ Augus’s expression was grim.
After dodging the golden nets, the phoenix continued its dive, deliberately aiming its flames at the most crowded areas.
Screams erupted throughout the Beastman Camp. They had only just started to form ranks, but Huang Na’s assault threw them into disarray once more.
"AHHH!" Gustav roared. Infusing his axe with Battle Aura, he hurled it into the air with all his might. But the phoenix simply turned, and the axe merely grazed her, scraping off a few feathers.
In that instant, a deep despair ignited in Gustav’s heart.
’Is there nothing that can stop that beast?’
’It’s completely engulfed in fire,’ Augus thought. ’That state can’t last long. Once the flames die down, our crossbowmen and Warlocks can force it back... but now...’ He turned his head and looked toward Wayne Mountain.
His worst fear had come to pass. Just as the Beastman Corps descended into chaos, the human Cavalry charged out.
"For our Lord! For the kingdom!" A Knight in gleaming silver armor, lance held high, led the charge. Close behind him followed dozens, hundreds, of human Cavalry.
"For our Lord! For the kingdom!"
From within the human Cavalry’s formation, two orbs of light suddenly shot into the air, instantly illuminating the battlefield.
To his despair, Gustav saw that these humans—both riders and mounts—were fully clad in armor. This was a standard Heavy Cavalry corps!
KREEE!
The phoenix in the sky cried out again and dove, but this time she wasn’t attacking. Instead, she recalled all the flames from the ground.
The Beastman Soldiers were finally free from the terrifying flames.
But the fire’s retreat was no salvation. The human Heavy Cavalry was already upon them.
"Charge!" Claude roared, his entire body flaring with Battle Aura as he charged directly at Gustav, who stood surrounded by other Beastmen.
Claude was already a powerful warrior, and now, charging downhill from Wayne Mountain with virtually no resistance, he had built up tremendous momentum.
His only weakness, perhaps, was that his mount was just an ordinary Magical Beast Horse. But even an ordinary mount was far better than fighting Gustav, who was on foot.
"HRAA! Die!"
Roaring, Claude raised his lance and charged straight for Gustav, sending several Beastmen flying as he barreled through.
Gustav’s pupils shrank as he raised his Steel Saber to defend himself.
But while the two were of equal strength, Gustav had already exhausted most of his Battle Aura defending against Huang Na’s earlier assault.
He was no match for the young and vigorous Claude.
Riding his powerful momentum, Claude’s lance slammed directly onto the flat of the blade. Gustav’s Steel Saber shattered in an instant, and the immense force sent Gustav himself flying sideways.
"Raise your spears! Raise your spears!"
"It’s no use! These humans are too fast!"
"They’re wearing heavy armor! Our blades can’t get through!"
This scene repeated itself all over the battlefield. As the human Cavalry plunged into the Beastman Army, a collective wail of agony arose from their ranks.
Claude was leading Heavy Cavalry, and not just any, but Robson’s most elite troops—all of them Tier Six!
In terms of pure skill, the Beastmen were outmatched. Some tried to raise their long spears in defense, only for the Knights to evade them with a simple turn.
What’s more, the human Cavalry wore steel helms and iron plate; the Beastmen’s blades couldn’t even scratch their armor!
The Heavy Cavalry Team thundered down from the mountain, lances leveled, and charged straight through the Beastmen ranks.
The Heavy Cavalry carried immense momentum. Caught off guard and already disrupted by Huang Na, the Beastman Army couldn’t even form a proper defensive line.
The human Heavy Cavalry punched straight through the entire Beastman Corps, leaving only the anguished cries of Beastmen in their wake.
"Heavy Cavalry, break into squads and attack! Break into squads and attack!"
After sending the Beastman General flying, Claude paid him no further attention, simply raising his lance to continue the charge.
"Gustav!"
Augus watched Claude charge and began to chant an incantation.
He originally had a Scroll for instant casting, but he had already used it against the phoenix.
KREEE!
Just as Augus was about to finish casting his spell, the phoenix dove straight down from the sky, scorching flames still blazing from its beak.
’How is it not over yet?!’ Augus wondered, a seed of doubt planted in his mind. ’This isn’t right! A phoenix’s fully powered state should only last a few minutes at most.’
Watching Huang Na bear down on him, Augus had no choice but to abandon his attack on the human Knight. Shifting the flow of his Magic Energy, he instantly teleported to Gustav’s side.
"The army... How is the army?" Gustav asked, coughing up blood.
Claude’s last strike had been delivered with his full power, amplified by the momentum of his downhill charge. Gustav had suffered severe internal injuries.
Hearing Gustav’s question, Augus fell silent.
He didn’t need to look; he already knew.
This human Heavy Cavalry was no ordinary force. After breaking the Beastman Corps, they had split from one large unit into many small ones, carving up the battlefield.
All Augus could hear were the screams of his fellow Beastmen.
How could a scattered Infantry Corps possibly be a match for Heavy Cavalry?
"Go! Retreat now! Quick! Get the Chieftain out of here!" Augus roared at Gustav’s Personal Guard, then glanced toward the sky.
"Get away from the phoenix! Run!"
Just as Augus had feared, the Beastman Corps had completely devolved into a chaotic rout.
The Cavalry Claude led were Robson’s finest.
Their ability to exploit openings on the battlefield was second to none.
"Retreat! Quickly, retreat!"
"The Chieftain is retreating! Let’s get out of here!"
Just as Claude was reveling in the slaughter, the Beastmen on the field received the order to retreat.
