Chapter 1454: Merfolk Tears 4
Chapter 1454: Merfolk Tears 4
"Hehe, two young clan chiefs, long time no see. I never thought we would have the chance to meet again." Yu Shang laughed crisply, casting a flirtatious glance at Zi, only to find him completely indifferent, which made Yu Shang quite uneasy.
"Old witch, hand over the body of the old clan chief." Rita had already discovered Yu Shang’s identity.
They had clashed several times before, and her impression of Yu Shang was very poor. This woman was strange and scheming, and had previously used numerous sinister tricks to frame people.
"Ugly Bimong girl, do you dare to call me an old witch?" Yu Shang detested it when people called her an old witch to her face, and Rita had just touched a nerve.
"Rita, step back. Let me handle this woman. You go retrieve the old clan chief’s body." Zi said solemnly.
"No, this old witch is not simple, and she has many tricks. Be careful of falling into her trap. Let’s handle her together." Rita was worried about Zi facing Yu Shang alone.
Yu Shang watched the two of them blatantly ignoring her, as if she didn’t exist.
Especially Zi, who showed no appreciation for beauty and kept defending that ugly Bimong girl, which made Yu Shang even more displeased.
"Two ignorant youngsters, there’s no need for you to defer to one another. Ugly freak, you must fancy the man beside you." Yu Shang’s eyes twinkled, seeing through Rita’s affection for Zi.
Zi’s expression changed slightly, and Rita’s heart skipped a beat.
"Hehe, how interesting. However, this man will never look at you, but I can do you a favor and let you die by his hand. Why not experience our Sky Fox Clan’s most adept illusion array?" As Hu Linglong spoke, pink smoke started to waft around.
Sky Fox Illusion Array?
Rita knew things were going badly—she and Zi had fallen into the illusion array set up by Hu Yushang.
It was too late to retreat now.
Amid the pink smoke, Zi saw a figure he dreamed of day and night appear in front of him.
"Lei, is that you?" Zi was momentarily dazed, seeing "Lei" slowly walking towards him.
"Zi, don’t go." Rita looked ahead, seeing only a cloud of pink smoke with no one there.
She punched through it, scattering the pink smoke abruptly.
"What are you doing!" Zi’s eyes were filled with blood-red rage, seeing Rita trying to kill "Lei."
"Hehe, young clan chief, isn’t it obvious? That woman has always pined for you. She can’t stand you loving someone else, so she wants to kill your lover." Hu Yushang’s voice echoed everywhere in the illusion array, like an unshakeable shadow.
"No, it’s not like that, Zi. She isn’t Lei. That’s an illusion created by magic." Rita, seeing Zi getting more agitated, wanted to swiftly pull him out.
"Get out of my way! Nobody will separate me from Lei." Zi pulled away from Rita’s hand and retreated into the illusion array. He had searched for "Lei" for so long, and now that he had found her, how could he allow anyone to get in his way?
To him, Rita had ulterior motives and wanted to tear him and Lei apart.
Zi snorted coldly, and countless light arcs, like electric currents, surged from the magic wand in his hand.
In a moment of desperation, Rita reached for Zi’s magic wand. Her punches were swift but not heavy, knowing that Zi was just temporarily fooled.
Light Magic is formidable. Despite Bimong’s robust physique, the arcs struck Rita’s hands, leaving a burnt smell. Zi’s aura wavered slightly, never expecting Rita to be reckless enough to attack.
"Step back," Zi waved the scepter, icy circles of light forcing Rita back a few steps, shattering the armor on her body.
"I won’t step back unless you come with me." The ground cracked beneath Rita’s feet, but her tall figure remained unmoved.
"Do you really not fear death?" Zi’s voice trembled slightly, seeing Rita’s skin cracked, blood pouring onto the ground, a heart-wrenching sight.
He felt like the magic wand in his hand weighed a thousand pounds, unable to lift it.
Didn’t he always dislike Rita? Why then...
"Young clan chief, what are you hesitating for? Kill her, and you’ll be with the woman you love forever." Hu Yushang hadn’t expected the two of them to still be at a stalemate in the Sky Fox Illusion Array.
Plumes of pink smoke spewed out, and four or five "Lei" appeared together.
Each "Lei" looked at Zi with a sorrowful expression.
Zi’s eyes filled with confusion again, as his head pounded with pain, the magic wand in his hands raised and then lowered.
"Zi, clear your mind; they are not Lei. I... I am Lei." Rita could no longer bear to see Zi in pain, tearfully employing the "Merfolk Tears" legacy.
The image of the mermaid goddess appeared before Zi’s eyes, as gentle as water, as fragile as always. Rita had transformed into Lei.
"Impossible... How could you be Lei?" Zi staggered, retreating a few steps, unable to fathom that the one he’d been searching for had been by his side all along.
"Do you know why I’m called Lei? Because merfolk have no tears. If a merfolk sheds tears, she’ll turn to foam and vanish into the sea. Lei is the same; there’s no such person as Lei, only Rita. Rest assured, you’ll never see me again." Rita’s heart ached, unleashing the power of the Bimong King relic within her.
Under the relic’s influence, the Sky Fox Illusion Array dissipated in an instant.
"Hu Yushang, hand over my grandfather’s body." A voice shouted angrily, as Lu descended from the sky. Upon seeing him, Zi joined forces with Lu to recover the Jiuluan Clan Patriarch’s body.
Unfortunately, by the time Zi and Lu escaped the Kirin Palace, Rita had vanished.
"Lu, so Lei was Rita all along, sigh." Zi felt a sense of betrayal.
"You only just realized? I had suspected as much long ago." Lu regarded his love-struck friend and shook his head.
Rita’s infatuation with Zi was no secret among the entire Eight Desolate Beast Clan, yet Zi was the only one oblivious to it.
This boy always claimed he couldn’t understand his feelings for Yun Sheng, but is he any different?
"But she is a Bimong." Zi’s expression shifted.
"So what if she’s a Bimong? If it’s beauty you want, you might as well go find a Heavenly Fox." Lu shrugged, but he could understand Zi’s feelings.
Zi had always been aloof, and for him to be with a Bimong girl taller than him, possessing fearful strength, was something he couldn’t accept.
Just as Rita had said, she never appeared before Zi again, leaving him feeling like something was missing in his heart—empty.
