Chapter 1449: Light and Darkness 4 (Ye Xiu and Hu Yan)
Chapter 1449: Light and Darkness 4 (Ye Xiu and Hu Yan)
After the Eight Desolates Clan Competition, the strongest Eight Beast Clans were selected, historically known as the Eight Desolate Beast Clan.
Among them, Ye Xiu from the Hei Qilin Tribe and Hu Yan from the Sky Fox Tribe were undoubtedly the top individuals.
Due to their outstanding performance in the Eight Desolates Clan Competition, both were selected by their respective tribes as the new clan leaders.
As clan leaders, although Hu Yan was very unwilling, she and Ye Xiu found themselves meeting from time to time.
Hu Yan was quite displeased about this, but it was to no avail.
In contrast to Hu Yan’s anger, Ye Xiu’s attitude was the complete opposite. He found various reasons to approach Hu Yan, appearing wherever she was.
As for those admirers who had developed feelings for Hu Yan, Ye Xiu blocked every one of them.
Over time, everyone inside and outside the Bahuang Tribe knew that Hu Yan was Ye Xiu’s woman.
"Ye Xiu, come out!" Finally, Hu Yan couldn’t hold back. She rushed outside Ye Xiu’s tent and instantly set it on fire with a fireball.
"Hu Yan, what are you so angry about in the middle of the night?" Ye Xiu walked out unhurriedly from the tent. He wore a golden robe, his hair casually draped beside him, exuding a wild and unrestrained aura.
"You know full well what you’ve done. From today on, you’re not allowed to tell others I’m your woman." Hu Yan glared at Ye Xiu hatefully.
For the next few days, Hu Yan didn’t see Ye Xiu. She heaved a sigh of relief, yet at the same time felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
"Sister, did you accept Ye Xiu’s proposal of love?" While Hu Yan was feeling puzzled about her strange mood, Hu Yushang angrily approached her.
"What nonsense are you talking about? How could I ever like that murderous, arrogant guy?" Hu Yan snorted.
"But everyone outside says you and Ye Xiu have an engagement." Hu Yushang looked at Hu Yan discontentedly.
Wasn’t she the one who first met Ye Xiu? Why did he choose her sister?
"What! That damn Ye Xiu." Hu Yan was furious, but when she found Ye Xiu, she discovered he had audaciously settled in her tent.
"Why are you here?" Hu Yan widened her eyes, incredulous as she watched Ye Xiu’s maid move his belongings into her tent one by one.
"My tent was burned by you, and there’s nowhere to sleep, so naturally I have to move into your tent." Ye Xiu looked innocent.
"You shameless Ye Xiu. How could you say I’m with you..." Hu Yan had never seen someone so shameless.
"What’s wrong with us? If you’re talking about the engagement, that was promised by the Sky Fox Clan Patriarch himself." Ye Xiu squinted, admiring Hu Yan’s rapidly changing face, looking very pleased.
It turned out the reason he had been quiet these past few days wasn’t that he had restrained himself, but because he was out proposing.
"Ye Xiu, get out!" Hu Yan’s face went pale.
"What if I don’t?" Ye Xiu continued unashamedly.
"If you don’t, I’ll beat you until you do." Hu Yan gritted her teeth and said.
"If it’s a fight, then let’s fight. If I win, you’ll marry me; if I lose, I’ll reluctantly marry you." Ye Xiu’s words almost made Hu Yan spit blood.
But in the end, the outcome of the match remained unresolved, and the Eight Desolate Beast Clans only knew that Ye Xiu moved into Hu Yan’s tent after that.
Eventually, the two became lovers.
Though they became each other’s beloved, Ye Xiu and Hu Yan always had disagreements, especially on how to handle human and beast tribes’ relations.
"Clan Leader, the war with the Humans can’t be delayed any longer. Several strong human forces have joined together to seize a piece of territory belonging to our Hei Qilin Tribe." Shadow said beside Ye Xiu.
"Damn humans. After Hu Yan and I return, I will ensure no human is left." Ye Xiu and Hu Yan were heading to Dihong City because Hu Yan claimed to have discovered an ancient tomb there.
Once again, it involved Hu Yan. When Shadow heard her name, a trace of jealousy flashed in his eyes.
Since walking together, Hu Yan became the only person in the Clan Leader’s heart.
Shadow secretly continued to incite the Clan Leader, knowing Hu Yan hated slaughter and always wished for peace between beasts and humans.
Shadow continuously intensified the Clan Leader’s hatred towards humans.
After returning from Dihong City, Ye Xiu noticed an indescribable sadness in Hu Yan’s eyes.
To cheer her up, they went together to the Feiyue River.
The Feiyue River lies at the juncture of human and beast territories; its waters are crystal clear. Hu Yan grew up by the river and would come to it whenever she was upset.
"Yan’er, what’s been bothering you these days? Or did something happen in Emperor Hong’s Ancient Tomb?" Ye Xiu couldn’t remember clearly. He only remembered entering Emperor Hong’s Tomb, but had no recollection of what occurred inside.
"It’s nothing. Ye Xiu, if one day, I did something you couldn’t forgive, would you hate me?" Hu Yan looked at Ye Xiu.
"Of course not. As long as it’s you, Yan’er, even if it’s wrong, I’ll forgive you." Ye Xiu smiled, his eyes full of affection.
"Then, it’s decided. I have here a pair of marriage locks, which I got from a human temple." Hu Yan took out a pair of locks.
The locks were engraved with Hu Yan and Ye Xiu’s names.
"Do you really believe in these human items? They can’t be anything good." Ye Xiu sneered.
"You... Since you don’t like it, forget it." Hu Yan, for some reason, got angry.
She furiously threw the locks away.
The locks formed an arc before falling into the Feiyue River.
"Yan’er, what are you doing?" Ye Xiu, also a bit angry, asked.
Hu Yan didn’t say a word more and disappeared with an instant teleportation.
Gazing at the still rippling Feiyue River, Ye Xiu frowned deeply, feeling uneasy.
Days later, Hu Yan arranged to meet Ye Xiu.
"Ye Xiu, did you kill Little Niuniu and the villagers?" Hu Yan’s face was somewhat pale.
"Just some humans. Lately, with the impending war with humans, who cares about their deaths?" Ye Xiu frowned upon hearing this.
He vaguely remembered Shadow saying he would capture some human spies, but whether people were killed, he didn’t know.
"Ye Xiu, stop denying it. Someone saw with their own eyes." Hu Yan’s eyes were starting to redden. Everything that happened in the Emperor Hong’s Tomb seemed to have become reality.
"Hu Yan, what nonsense are you spouting? What does our relationship have to do with humans? Besides, those people..." Ye Xiu felt something was amiss, but Hu Yan gave him no chance to say more.
Hu Yan resolutely left, leaving Ye Xiu alone.
Since that day, until the moment of Ye Xiu’s death, he never saw Hu Yan again.
He only heard that Hu Yan betrayed the Eight Desolate Beast Clan and sided with the humans.
His heart felt torn apart until the moment he fell.
"Shadow, dig out my heart. I, Ye Xiu, will not die easily. Hu Yan, one day, I will make you pay."
Yet, many years later, when Ye Xiu learned the truth, he realized the one who was wrong all along had been himself.
