Chapter 622
Meanwhile, while the Shen and the Tang family celebrated for Shen Yi and Lu Xinyi’s baby girl, a man was sitting on a stool next to a hospital bed where a woman in a coma was lying.
Ye Xingjie sat there unmoving, knowing he was useless. A failure if he could add on top of that. He sat there rigid in the hospital chair, waiting for Sun Feiyan to wake up. He’d been a fool for leaving her at a time she needed him the most.
His arrogance and pride took the best of him when he disregarded his feelings for her, claiming that he only sought after her to seek revenge on the Sun family who caused the fall down on his own family years ago.
If only he’d realized earlier how wrong he was and how stupid he was to place her life in danger when he left her behind. He was so consumed with his personal vengeance that it blinded him, unable to see the person who truly loved him.
Right now, he was clearly paying the price for his arrogance.
If it wasn’t for Lu Xinyi’s help and intervention, Sun Feiyan might be dead by this time.
Sun Feiyan had lost a lot of blood even before she was brought to the hospital, and with her blood type one of rarest within the country, it was almost impossible for him to find a compatible blood donor to save her life.
When Lu Xinyi heard the situation of her cousin, she sent Fu Shuren at once to retrieve Sun Feiyan’s biological mother who’d abandoned her since she was born. They were lucky that this woman shared the same blood type with Sun Feiyan, and she was saved from grave danger.
Ye Xingjie owed Lu Xinyi big this time, and he planned to repay his debt if ever she needed his help in the future.
He opened his eyes and fixed it on the sleeping woman in front of him. A vice-like grip took hold on his cold heart, squeezing it tightly and painfully by just looking at the only woman he learned to love.
His guilt and remorse were so great that he didn’t think he could ever forgive himself after this. He’d left her alone and vulnerable, and she almost died from it. Would have died… had not Lu Xinyi forgotten their differences and saved her without asking in return.
Ye Xingjie stared at her still form, hoping that she’d open her eyes and look at him… regardless of whether she blamed him for this or not. He would willingly accept if she chose to forget about him. She had a valid reason to do so.
Instead, she remained sleeping, and she’d been in a coma for weeks now. Ye Xingjie felt his guilt rise each day she remained asleep. He laid his hand on hers, twining their fingers together even though hers remained limp in his hold.
“Feiyan, how long do you plan to sleep? Do you really hate me this much? Say, if I promised to spend the rest of my life with you, will you wake up?” he asked before lowering his head, not noticing the single tear that rolled down on Sun Feiyan’s cheek.

“Ye Xingjie? How’s Feiyan?” Chen Anqi asked as she shut the door of her miss’ hospital room behind her. She was holding a huge bag with necessities inside. She opened the blinds, letting the sunlight in to dispel the gloominess of the room. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
“Still the same,” he replied. Under the sunlight, Chen Anqi noticed the darkening of his under eyes. He hadn’t left the hospital since her miss was admitted and during the operation until she was transferred here to recover.
He truly loved her miss even if he didn’t say anything. He even went as far as to claim that her miss was part of the Ye family to make sure the doctors wouldn’t overlook her condition.
“Go eat and rest for a while. I’ll take your place and wait for her to wake up,” Chen Anqi said, watching Ye Xingjie’s form hunched forward.
However, Ye Xingjie seemed to ignore her like always and remained seated next to Sun Feiyan’s bed. If Chen Anqi didn’t stare at him for a few seconds, she would have thought that he turned into a statue overnight.
“I require nothing, Chen Anqi,” Ye Xingjie declined her suggestion.
Even when his younger brother—Ye Xieren—dropped by earlier to bring him a set of new clothes to change and food to eat, he remained silent.
He didn’t need anyone to look after him especially if it wasn’t Sun Feiyan. He cared not what people think of him. He also didn’t care if they were scared of him except Sun Feiyan. She was the only exception in his rules.
Being a Sun heiress, Ye Xingjie knew he should hate her. He also knew that he should get attached to her, and yet it was too late for him to ignore the feelings she evoked inside him.
“That’s not true,” Chen Anqi placed a hand over his shoulder and looked at her miss’ sleeping form. Sun Feiyan looked healthier than the last time she saw her awake. It seemed that this coma was able to help her miss to recover well.
“Miss Feiyan cares for you. You don’t know how worried she was when you suddenly left without a word. Every passing day without you, I know she was thinking of you; but she wouldn’t say a word to reveal her feelings. If Miss Feiyan finds out that you’re dismissing your own health, she wouldn’t be happy.”
Did Feiyan really think of him? Ye Xingjie wondered. He assumed that she would hate him after she found out about his betrayal. How come she was able to love him still despite the things he’d done to hurt her?
He kept his gaze on their entwined hands and closed his eyes. Chen Anqi had a point. He could already imagine Feiyan’s scowling face as she looked at him.
“Feiyan, will you wake up if I listen to Chen Anqi?” Ye Xingjie asked Sun Feiyan but knew that he’d never get a response from her.
“Fine. I’ll be taking a shower and will eat. I’ll be back in an hour.” He told Chen Anqi before pulling himself up on his feet, kissing Sun Feiyan’s forehead gently. There was this gentleness in his eyes that Chen Anqi only saw when he was looking at her miss.
“Feiyan, I’ll be going for a while. Wait for me, okay?”
Should she wait for him, or was it the other way around? Ye Xingjie didn’t care one bit. He decided that no matter how long it would take, he’d wait for Sun Feiyan’s return. He would be patient until he could prove—not only to her but also to himself—that he was worthy of her.
Just as he was about to leave and release her hold, Ye Xingjie was startled when her hand gently gripped his hand before going limp once more. He didn’t know if it was her way of telling him she’d wait or letting him know that she forgave him.
Either way, Ye Xingjie had surely felt it. He wasn’t hallucinating at all, and this was enough for him to keep going.
