Chapter 2819: Chapter 2828: Austin Harper Sent Me
"Where’s Austin?" Adam Sinclair frowned, glancing toward the entrance, noticing no one had followed her in.
Renee Anderson pulled out a chair and sat next to him. She asked the bartender for a cocktail, took a sip, and said, "Austin got a call from home and went back first."
Adam wasn’t naive and didn’t believe her. He picked up his phone, pulled out some cash from his wallet, and placed it on the table. "Since he went back, I’m leaving too."
He showed no hesitation and was ready to leave!
Renee’s face turned pale. She bit her lip and grabbed his arm, "Adam, you can’t possibly not guess why Austin left. He left first because he was too embarrassed to ask you for help. His family is in some trouble, and he’s asked all his friends, but no one wanted to get involved, so he contacted you as a last resort."
Adam indifferently pulled her hand off his sleeve, maintaining a safe distance, "Why didn’t he tell me himself and asked you to speak for him? And why are you willing to be his messenger?"
Two consecutive questions clearly expressed his skepticism toward her.
Renee thought about how he used to treat her and how he was treating her now, feeling a huge sense of disparity. She forced a graceful smile and said, "He called me first and told me about his family issues. I promised to help him find some connections. But you know my family’s situation. Ever since my grandpa retired, our connections haven’t been as strong as they used to be. Over the past few years, my grandpa’s old friends have retired one after another, and our family’s ties with this circle have weakened. I can only rely on old connections to reach out to former uncles and aunts. But I’m worried it won’t be very effective, so I thought of you."
She looked at the man’s handsome profile. The youthful face in her memory had gradually faded, and the matured, steady demeanor of Adam now left a deep impression on her heart!
"The Old Master of the Sullivan Family is still around, and their network has expanded significantly in recent years. I told him to ask you, but he was too embarrassed to reach out to you. Adam, Grandma Harper is old. I’m really afraid she won’t withstand this blow. I’m sorry for taking the liberty to find you without telling you the truth. I know you’re still upset with me over what happened last time. You haven’t answered my calls or contacted me all this time. I’ve been thinking a lot. It was my fault. I always thought you would wait for me, but I didn’t realize you already have a girlfriend. We’re not the same as we were before. As a woman who left you to go abroad with my fiancé, only to be dumped and come back to find you, you indeed have every reason to resent me."
She hung her head, her pretty face cast in the bar’s lights, appearing blurry yet beautiful, making her look visibly down and distressed.
After hearing her out, Adam did not comfort her but simply furrowed his brows, pushing a piece of paper toward her, "Renee, I have a girlfriend. Let’s keep our distance."
Renee didn’t expect him to be so harsh. Despite everything she’d said and the past they’d revisited, he rejected her just as clearly as he did last time!
She showed an appropriate hint of sadness on her face, looked up at Adam, "Can we not even be friends now?"
Adam’s eyes were deep, and his thin lips moved, extinguishing all her hopes, "We aren’t suited to be friends."
