Chapter 2778: Chapter 2787: The Fiercely Protective Man

Adam Sinclair cast a sharp glance over, and Austin Harper’s words got stuck in his throat. He quickly covered his mouth and gave Adam a look that said, "I didn’t mean it, just spoke without thinking."

Olivia Lewis watched their eye contact, calmly pulled her partner inside, and said, "Come in. Standing at the door might disturb the neighbors across."

"Thanks, sister-in-law." Austin was overjoyed, slipped in first, completely ignoring Adam’s warning look.

Once inside, he looked around the small apartment in surprise and asked Olivia who was pouring him water, "Sister-in-law, why do you live in such a small house?"

He meant no harm; he was purely curious.

The Sinclair Family and Adam Sinclair weren’t short on money. Adam’s properties were countless, so as Adam’s girlfriend, he thought Olivia should at least live in a 300-square-meter high-end duplex apartment to be considered normal.

He just realized this neighborhood, while nice, wasn’t a particularly upscale wealthy area. And to find Olivia not only lived in a regular neighborhood but in a small apartment.

The size, he guessed, was about the size of his bedroom.

Olivia placed the water cup in front of him, faced his awkward question, and answered with utmost calmness, "Small? Not really. Two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, enough for one person. If it’s bigger, cleaning would be troublesome too. I’m lazy, and when I’m tired after work, I don’t feel like moving, so I bought a house that suits me."

"You bought this?" Austin was even more surprised, and because of the shock, he looked up and gazed at Olivia.

Adam was somewhat displeased, furrowing his brow, "It’s already so late, won’t your parents be worried if you don’t go back?"

Austin was interrupted, only then realizing his demeanor might have seemed rude. He awkwardly wanted to explain he meant no offense, just curious. Olivia was with him, so how come even the house was bought by herself?

"I often go back late. They’ve gotten used to it."

"But I’m afraid your Old Master hasn’t gotten used to it, should I call him and tell him you were still strolling around town in the afternoon?" Adam’s eye-threat turned into a blatant verbal threat.

Austin feared his Old Master the most, his whole body stiffened, and he plastered a sheepish smile, "Come on, we’re brothers after all, don’t be so harsh."

Didn’t he just say something wrong?

His girlfriend isn’t made of paper, does she need such exaggerated protection that saying the wrong thing could get him kicked out?

"You want me to dial your Old Master right in front of you?" Adam looked at him expressionlessly and took out his phone, clearly showing he wasn’t joking.

"Oh crap!" Austin’s face twisted in pain, suddenly rising from the sofa, "You’re really going to call?"

Adam immediately swiped the screen without a word...

Actions speak louder than words.

Austin hurriedly snatched his phone, as if on hot coals, and said, "I’ll leave, I’ll leave, okay?"

After saying that, he smiled awkwardly at Olivia, "Ahem, sister-in-law, there’s a family gathering tonight, so I’ll head back first. I’ll treat you to a meal some other day."

"Okay." Olivia knew he was just being polite, so she agreed readily, knowing that meal was just talk.

Austin gave her a complicated look, returned the phone to Adam, and walked out, glancing back with every step...
