Chapter 2513: Tolerating the Humiliation For Greater Things
Chapter 2513: Tolerating the Humiliation For Greater Things
The Saintess watched everything with calm eyes as if she had done something insignificant. Under the brilliant light, her face looked exceptionally cold. It felt as if there was a light halo around her. Unlike the Shadow Monster King, who was dark at his core, she felt like a divine entity emanating auspicious light. If the Fiend races were to see her, they would once again kneel and kowtow to her, thinking that she was the Saintess chosen by heaven.
Only when the Time Scribe was completely eradicated did the Saintess turn around to leave. Her movements appeared leisurely and slow, but it only took a step for her to leave the forest. She soon returned to the cave’s vicinity. She rubbed her face to erase its coldness, replacing it with her usual gentle smile.
Zu An happened to rush out then, and he looked visibly relieved to see her. He rushed forward to give her a big embrace. “That scared me. I sensed something happening outside and rushed out to take a look, but I didn’t see you. I thought something happened to you.”
The Saintess' body stiffened up at his embrace, her lifted hand freezing in midair. Hearing the other party’s concern, her expression mellowed, and she naturally hugged him back too. She gently replied, “Don’t worry, I’m fine. I was surprised by the light too.”
Zu An looked in the distance and said, “Wait here for me. I’ll check it out.”
“Don’t go. It could be dangerous.” The Saintess held his hand.
Zu An smiled. “Don’t worry, I'm strong enough to stay safe.”
The Saintess insistently shook her head. “We could be in the Celestial World. There are too many powerful entities that we don’t know about here. We can’t be too cautious.”
Zu An frowned. “Danger is no reason for us to stay still. We're already lacking intelligence about this world. If we don’t gather as much information as we can, we could die without even knowing why.”
The Saintess stared at him, amazed by his mental fortitude. “I’ll go with you then. I can at least cover you.”
Zu An thought it would be worse to leave her here and risk being separated in this foreign world, so he replied, “Alright.” He wrapped his arm around her slender waist and flew into the air.
The Saintess glanced at the hand on her waist and felt the warmth coming from it. It made her cheeks redden. Zu An had so many things on his mind that he didn’t notice anything off about her, though.
The two of them soon arrived at where the Saintess had previously met Mojard. Zu An put the Saintess down and scanned the surroundings.
“Did you find anything?” the Saintess carefully asked.
Zu An squatted down in front of a hole and pinched the soil. “There were two people here just now. Both of them were very powerful.”
“Is that so?” The Saintess looked at him from behind with sharp eyes.
“I sense traces of fire and light element ki lingering in the air. Those two people must have fought with each other.” Zu An’s face turned grim. “How weird. I only sensed an instantaneous burst of power. Was the victor determined in a single move?”
The Saintess walked up to him. “Who do you think they were? Were they humans or beasts?”
“There’s too little information to say for sure.” Zu An shook his head. “I don’t think they were beasts, as there are no traces of wildlife activities here or within a fifty kilometer radius. It’s as if the beasts dare not approach this place because they're afraid of something.”
Zu An had tried to use the jade badge’s communication ability to gather information from nearby animals, only to find that there was not a single animal within fifty kilometers.
Upon hearing his answer, the Saintess retracted her hand and said, “If we can’t find anything, we should leave quickly to avoid complications. I feel uneasy. This place is dangerous.”
Zu An nodded. “I feel uneasy too.” He considered talking about the inexplicable unease he had felt in recent days, but he decided against that to avoid worrying her. Seeing that there were no other clues around, he brought the Saintess back to the cave.
While he was pondering with a frown, he suddenly felt a pair of fingertips gently massaging his temples, and a voice saying, “I think you have been too nervous recently. You should relax a little.”
Zu An looked at her with a helpless smile. “I don’t want to, but we’re treading on thin ice. The slightest mistake could cost my life and implicate the rest of you.”
Suoluo Shi had been imprisoned by Salamay. Ji Xiaoxi and the others were unreachable. On top of that, something seemed to have happened to Pei Mianman.
“Are you worried about big sister Pei?” the Saintess asked while massaging him.
“Mmhm. I didn’t find any traces of her outside the Imperial Tomb,” Zu An said. “I’m beginning to doubt whether she was really heading to the Imperial Tomb.”
The Saintess’ hands paused. “Once we’re out of here, let’s return to that town to gather more information. Perhaps there are other clues there.”
“I guess that’s all we can do now.”
The Saintess continued the massage. “You don’t need to be too worried. Sometimes no news is the best news.”
Zu An grabbed her hands and pulled her into his embrace. “Little sister Ling’er, you’re so understanding. After hearing your words of consolation, I now feel much calmer.”
The Saintess was embarrassed. “Big brother Zu, you’re making fun of me.”
Her coy demeanor stoked Zu An’s desire. He couldn’t resist the urge to lower her head and kiss her.
The Saintess was taken aback. She instinctively tried to look away, but at the same time, she was worried that the other party would notice something. Her hesitation resulted in her lips being captured. Shock flashed across her eyes, but she quickly controlled her emotions to show only embarrassment and confusion.
It was only when Zu An’s hands began reaching into her robes that she regained her clarity. She coyly grabbed his hand and grumbled, “You said that this place is filled with the unknown. How can we do something like this here?”
“But you just said that we should take things in stride and not worry too much.”
“I was consoling you... Wu...” The Saintess wanted to protest, only to find her lips sealed.
Anger flickered across her eyes. She placed her fingertip behind his head. It would only take a simple jab for her to claim this fellow’s life. But she quickly remembered her ploy and gave up on it. Forget it. It’s not our first time anyway.
In her moment of hesitation, she suddenly felt Zu An squeezing into her with unstoppable momentum. Her face reddened, and she bit down hard on his shoulder. It’s all for that...
“Be gentler!”
