Chapter 59: Riding With Xin Cheng
Chapter 59: Riding With Xin Cheng
Xiang Ling took one last look around her bedchamber to ensure that she wasn’t leaving anything behind, before she threw her packed stuff inside her space and walked out of the chamber, heading toward the entrance.
The refugees had left for their village the previous day along with Earth Immortal and the disciples of the Jingsheng Sect. Since the disciples of the most powerful Sect of the Mortal Realm were there along with the Earth Immortal, who was acting as an Elder of the Sect, Xiang Ling and others knew that the villages’ security was in the right hands.
Right before stepping out of the manor, she turned around and looked at the house where she had been staying for the past ten or so days. She wasn’t one to easily get attached but she couldn’t help but feel slightly sad for leaving so soon. Yet, she needed to return to the City and start mending the chaotic life of the previous owner of her body.
Letting out a sigh, she turned around and stepped out of the manor. A carriage was waiting outside the entrance along with the three horses that her husbands rode when coming to the Shengdu Village. All five of her husbands and the three girls were also outside, making Xiang Ling realize that they all had been waiting for her.
The village head of Shengdu Village was also there and the carriage belonged to his family. He was kind enough to lend the carriage to them for their ride back to Dongzhi City. After bidding his goodbye to her and the Young Masters, he took his leave.
Xiang Ling stared at the horses and the carriage for a few moments before her eyes shifted to the people who were returning to the City with her. "How are we going to make this work?"
"Brother Wei will ride with Brother Ming, and Brother Li will ride with me. The four of you will take the carriage but..." Zhe Yuan trailed off as soon as his gaze landed on the carriage.
"But the carriage is too small for all four of them. It can only provide space for two of them and one will need to sit in the front with the coachman. Still, one will be left." Wei Guang declared the issue that they all had noticed by now.
"It’s already noon. We can’t possibly reach Dongzhi City before dusk and it’s not a good idea to travel during the night. Let’s stop for the night in one of the towns on our way to the City and we will arrange a bigger carriage there." Li Xian provided a solution and while it was a good one, it still didn’t solve their current predicament.
"My Lady, how about you and Sister Fu Xiao take the carriage? An Xi can sit in the front and I will walk." An Mei suggested and immediately received a very unimpressed look from Xiang Ling.
"Why will you walk? Don’t you know that we will be traveling for hours? Stop talking nonsense. Just ride with Master Xin since he’s riding alone." The moment Xiang Ling said the last sentence, she received a shocked reaction from almost everyone.
"What?" Xin Cheng stared at her with a perplexed expression covering his face as if he was having a hard time accepting the nonsense that she had just spoken. The expressions of her other husbands weren’t that different from Xin Cheng’s.
But the most hilarious one was definitely An Mei who looked terrified for her life. Suppressing the smile that was threatening to break free, Xiang Ling quickly corrected her mistake. "Sorry, what I wanted to say is that you three can take the carriage and I will ride with Xin Cheng since he’s riding alone."
She felt like digging a pit for herself as she said these words out loud. Her gaze shifted toward Xin Cheng and she noticed how his expression had taken a drastic shift. He almost looked pleased which made her frown in suspicion.
"Why couldn’t I think of this? LingLing, how about you ride with me and Brother Li can ride with Brother Xin?" Zhe Yuan proposed with a big cute smile on his looks as if he was trying to tempt her with his cheekiness. But for Xiang Ling, he was just as alarming of a riding partner as Xin Cheng.
Before she could reply, she noticed Xin Cheng moving toward her with his horse. Once he was next to her, he suddenly grabbed her waist and the next moment he had seated her on the horse’s back. While she tried to cope with her shock, the man himself took the most elegant leap and seated himself behind her.
"Don’t have any more time. We need to reach one of the towns before dusk." He threw over his shoulder at the others and was answered with a scoff from Zhe Yuan.
The others didn’t take too long and within the next two or three minutes, they all were ready to set out.
"I will take the rear." Xin Cheng told the others as he directed the horse behind the carriage, leaving the rest of the four Masters at the front.
Xiang Ling wondered what the man was planning but she remained silent. Her brain was more focused on the fact that her back was pressed against his front and his strong arms were surrounding her as he took hold of the reins. Every single cell in her body was aware of his nearness and the warmth of his body.
"Relax. I’m not going to eat you." Xin Cheng whispered in her ear as they began their journey back to Dongzhi City. As his warm breath touched her earlobe, a shiver immediately ran through Xiang Ling’s body and she had to suppress the gasp that was almost out of her lips.
Still, the man behind her noticed every little shift in her body and since her back was facing him, Xiang Ling didn’t see the big and genuine smile that spilled on his lips while his eyes softened - a look that no one had ever seen on his face in thousands of years.
