Journey To Become an Insanely Pampered Wife

Chapter 57: A Brighter Tomorrow

Chapter 57: A Brighter Tomorrow

"I did what?"

Xiang Ling stared at the Earth Immortal with wide eyes and her jaw hanging open. Every cell in her brain was trying to wrap itself around the ridiculous words she had just heard. She was coveting the Crown Prince of the Heavenly Realm? Since when?

The Earth Immortal looked shocked by her reaction for a moment before he let out another sigh and replied, "I know that it’s hard to believe but now everyone knows about your improper thoughts toward His Highness. Even if you were infatuated with him, you chose a very bad time to seek him. He’s undergoing nirvana and you chose this moment to go and meet him. You could have caused trouble for him if Her Majesty hadn’t stopped you on time."

The man looked pretty unimpressed with Xiang Ling and it only made the latter more baffled. She scoffed out loudly before she stormed away from a very confused-looking Earth Immortal.

She should have seen this coming. After all, the Heavenly Imperial Family would never let the news of the Crown Prince’s disappearance known to the others, especially the Demon Realm. And since her punishment caused quite a ruckus as many people noticed it, the Heavenly Empress needed a reason to convince everyone that she didn’t punish a Supreme Immortal for nothing. Hence, the nonsense story of Xiang Ling trying to covet the Crown Prince while he was undergoing Nirvana. This just made her a villain in the eyes of every Immortal and fairy of the Heavenly and Celestial Realms.

Well played, Your Majesty! Xiang Ling thought as she came to a stop after walking for a while. She had come a long way and there was no sign of the Earth Immortal. A frustrated sigh left her lips and she turned around to return to the manor.

She was in no position to take revenge on the powerful Heavenly Empress but there was someone else who could quench her thirst for retribution.

In the heart of the Shengdu Village Square, a gathering of gratitude unfolded, painting a poignant scene of resilience and community. The refugees from Lizhou Village, their spirits still bearing the scars of tragedy, knelt in unison, a collective gesture of humility and appreciation.

It was late morning and the warm air blew across the square, making the movement heart-warming and serene.

Elderly men and women, their faces etched with lines of hardship, led the procession of gratitude. Their voices trembled with emotion as they expressed their heartfelt thanks to those who had embraced them in their time of need.

"We stand here today, humbled by the kindness bestowed upon us," spoke an elder, his voice weathered but resolute. "To the villagers of Shengdu, we owe a debt of gratitude beyond measure. You opened your hearts and your homes to us, offering shelter when we had none."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd, voices blending in harmonious acknowledgment of the village’s generosity.

"And to our esteemed Village Head," continued another, his words reverent, "your leadership and compassion guided us through the darkest of nights. Your benevolence illuminated our path toward hope."

The Village Head, a figure of quiet strength, nodded solemnly, his gaze sweeping over the assembled multitude with a blend of humility and pride. All he did was to help those in need but as he looked at the people kneeling in front of him, his heart was filled with a warmth he never felt before.

"Master Li," chimed in a woman, her voice soft yet filled with conviction, "your kindness sustained us. Your provisions nourished our bodies, but it was your unwavering faith that fed our spirits."

Li Xian, who was standing along with his brothers, inclined his head in acknowledgment, his eyes reflecting the collective resolve of those he had aided.

"And to our esteemed village physician," added another, his tone infused with reverence, "your tireless dedication healed our wounds, both seen and unseen. You were the beacon of hope amidst our darkest hours."

The village physician, a figure of quiet heroism, accepted the gratitude with a humble bow, his hands a testament to the healing touch he had bestowed upon the wounded.

Amidst the chorus of appreciation, one figure stood out, her presence a beacon of light in the gathering dusk. Chen Xiang Ling stood with quiet grace, her eyes brimming with compassion as the refugees turned their gaze toward her. The smile from her lips faded as she found herself at the center of everyone’s attention all of a sudden.

"And finally," declared an elder, his voice trembling with emotion, "to Lady Chen, our savior and our guiding light. You gave us more than shelter; you gave us hope. You tended to our wounds, both physical and emotional, with a heart overflowing with kindness. You, dear Lady Chen, are the embodiment of benevolence and grace."

Another elder woman added, "Lady Chen, you not only provided us with a roof over our heads, but also made sure that our bellies were always filled, and our children were healthy and safe. You looked after the injured ones and brought them back to health. You were the strong pillar we all desperately clung to survive the darkest period of our lives. We all owe you our lives."

Tears glistened in Xiang Ling’s eyes as she listened to the words of gratitude, her heart swelling with a mixture of humility and pride. She only started helping them because she wanted to take Li Xian back to Dongzhi City as soon as possible. What she didn’t realize was that somewhere along the path, she started caring for these people.

"We stand here today, not as strangers from distant lands, but as brothers and sisters bound by a common thread of humanity," concluded the elder, his voice ringing with conviction. "Together, we shall rebuild, stronger and more resilient than before. Together, we shall forge a future filled with hope and promise."

And so, the refugees of Lizhou Village and the villagers of Shengdu stood united, their spirits buoyed by the power of gratitude and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
