Xiang Ling made her way toward her bedchamber once she was done drinking the herbal tea that she had Fu Xiao prepare for her. It was quite late and she felt emotionally drained after what happened during dinner.
Nothing prepared her for the unexpected events that unfolded in the dining hall, nor was she prepared for the new version of Dao Ming. Just one night and the man, who hadn’t spoken to her since the first time they met, had decided to stick to her.
As she reached her bedchamber, she realized that the girls seemed to have forgotten to light up the lanterns as the chamber was filled with darkness. Stepping inside, she closed the door behind her. While using her enhanced eyesight, she made her way to light the candles that were placed all around the chamber. She was halfway through the room when she felt the shift in the air and her ears picked up the movements of whoever was hiding in the darkness of the room.
"Who is it?" She asked out loud as she turned to face the direction from where the noise came.
The very next second, a lantern flickered to life, and holding it was none other than her fifth husband - Wen Zhe Yuan.
Xiang Ling stared at the man in surprise, confused to find him inside her chamber. "What are you doing here?" She asked after a few seconds of silence.
Wen Zhe Yuan hung the lantern on one of the hooks on the wall before he used the flame stick to light the candles that immediately filled the chamber with their glow and warmth. Once he was done, he finally turned his attention toward Xiang Ling and walked closer while keeping his eyes fixed on her face.
Xiang Ling watched the man close the distance between them in silence. Her eyes didn’t leave his face even for a second and she found herself getting lost in those beautiful purple orbs.
After the previous night’s incident with Dao Ming, she found that the reason behind his abnormal hair and eye colors was his identity as a wolf shifter. This made her confirm her initial guess that all her husbands were not just mere mortals even if they were living in mortal bodies for the time being.
As she watched Zhe Yuan’s beautiful purple eyes and luscious silver hair, she found herself wondering what could be his real identity.
"You are finally looking at me, LingLing."
The remark pulled her out of her reverie and Xiang Ling realized that the man was standing right in front of her with merely a few inches of space left between the two. She watched a beautiful smile blooming on his lips as he bent his waist slightly to bring his face closer to hers.
"I think everyone has taken their fair share of time testing if you have indeed forgotten your memories or not. Don’t you think it’s time for me to have my turn?" His voice was so soft and melodic that it took Xiang Ling a while to focus on his question instead of how good her ears felt when he spoke.
"A test?" She asked in confusion even though she understood exactly what he was trying to say. "You want to test me. H-how?" She felt her heart beating crazily inside the confinement of her chest and she wondered what was the reason behind it. Was it because Zhe Yuan just talked about testing her or was it because something about this man was making her lose control over herself? It was almost like a spell was cast over her but when she checked, there was no presence of spiritual energy in the chamber, confirming that no spell had been cast.
Zhe Yuan took another step forward, barely leaving any space between the two of them. Xiang Ling was so shocked by his sudden nearness that her legs tried to step back in their own accord. However, she didn’t get to move away from him as one of his strong arms encircled her waist and pulled her body against his.
Xiang Ling stared into those deep purple orbs with her throat feeling as dry as a desert. Her breathing had become sharp and her heart had gone completely crazy as her entire body felt something indescribable happening to her the moment their bodies came in contact.
"W-what are you doing?" She asked in a barely audible voice. Her eyes stared into his as he gazed at her with a warm look on his face.
His smile became bigger at her question and he answered, "In the past, you were obsessed with my body and never gave up on a chance to sleep with me. However, ever since you lost your memories, you haven’t even given me a second glance let alone sleeping with me. So, that’s what I want to test."
His face was merely centimeters away from hers and his warm breath fanned her cheek as he spoke. Each word that left his mouth made Xiang Ling’s already crazy heart go even more crazy.
"Test me... H-how? What are you going to do?" She asked as she tried to not look at his lips just like he was looking at hers. His gaze hadn’t left her lips for a while and she felt the strong urge to use her tongue to wet her suddenly parched lips.
Zhe Yuan kept his eyes fixed on her lips as he answered and this time, it was his voice that was barely audible. "Maybe I should kiss you and see if you can resist me now or not."
"Huh?"
Xiang Ling was at a total loss for words as she stared at her husband in bewilderment. His gaze finally left her lips and moved to her eyes as he asked in a husky tone, "Don’t you think that’s a great idea?"
"Kissing?" She asked as her gaze finally drifted down to his lips as she found herself thinking about tasting his lips.
"Mmhm."
"And I’m not supposed to react?" She asked further.
"Mmhm."
Zhe Yuan hummed as his face inched closer. Their lips were barely a breath away when -
