Chapter 49: Bathing Together
The wolf stared at the woman as if the latter had grown two heads all of a sudden. No mortal or immortal had left it this stunned ever before with their words.
Xiang Ling waited for some sort of response from the wolf but got nothing except a blank stare. "Are you coming?" She asked when the wolf didn’t move from its place even after certain long moments had passed.
The wolf kept staring at her for a few more seconds before it finally stood up and walked toward Xiang Ling. Realizing that it had finally agreed to take a bath, Xiang Ling directed it toward the inner room where she had prepared water for its bath.
"Here, let me help in getting rid of all this blood and dirt from-"
Xiang Ling trailed off in mid-sentence as she watched with shocked eyes as the wolf jumped into the tub and settled down in the warm water. Its fur was drenched in water as it got rid of all the dried blood and dirt from its body.
"It looks like you don’t really need any help." Xiang Ling muttered the words as she watched the wolf enjoying the hot bath. It was a good thing that she prepared its bath water in a separate tub instead of her own bathtub. "Enjoy your bath. I will leave you alone." Xiang Ling was about to turn around and leave the room when she was suddenly attacked by a gust of water out of nowhere.
"Hey!"
She shouted in alarm and turned to look at the wolf only to find it grinning at her. She was sure that the expression it carried on its face was a grin. In response to her glare, it stood up in the bathtub and shook its body furiously, attacking Xiang Ling with water droplets in the process.
Xiang Ling was left speechless at the wolf’s antics. "You are such a troublemaker. Look at what you have done. My clothes are wet and covered in your hair."
The wolf didn’t respond and just stared at her while still grinning as if was satisfied with what it had done to her. Letting out a sigh, Xiang Ling decided to also take a bath. Just a mere flick of her fingers filled the bigger bathtub with warm water with flower petals floating on its surface.
But right as she stepped closer to the tub, she noticed the wolf observing her in silence with its curious eyes trained on her. A sudden thought popped into her mind - was she going to take a bath in front of it?
She turned to look at the wolf and thought that it was just a beast like Little Pink. There was no need for her to feel shy in front of it, right? The thought made her relax and she started taking off her clothes. One by one, her clothes slipped down her shoulders and landed on the floor at her feet. Within no time, she stood next to the tub completely naked.
Her snow-like skin was on display but it gave a warm aura under the light of the candles that were lit around the bath chamber. Her long hair covered her entire back and her body was filled with curves in all the right places.
Xiang Ling stepped inside the bathtub and settled down with her back facing the wolf which made it impossible for her to notice the look on its face as it watched a very naked woman bathing not far from it.
A few moments of silence passed before Xiang Ling turned her body slightly to face the wolf and asked, "You are a spiritual beast. Why aren’t you talking then?"
She waited for the wolf to say something but only got silence in response. Letting out a small sigh, she tried again. "What is your name? How old are you? I was so focused on treating your injuries that I didn’t get the time to assess the level of your spiritual powers. You must be a few hundred years old, right?"
She waited for a few more seconds in the hope of getting a response from the wolf but still got nothing. "Look at that temper of yours." She mumbled the words before she once again turned her back toward it and focused her attention on the bath.
The wolf didn’t stay for long in the bath and ten or so minutes later, it climbed out of the tub and once again shook its body to get rid of the water from its fur.
"Stop doing that! You are covering the place with water and your hair." Xiang Ling told it as she channeled her spiritual energy toward the wolf and helped it dry its body. "Here you go. All dry and sparkly."
The wolf didn’t react at all and just left the chamber, leaving behind a very perplexed Xiang Ling. "Look at it. Not even trying to pretend to be grateful." She mumbled to herself as she decided to quickly wash her hair and step out of the bath.
Half an hour later, Xiang Ling stepped out of the bath chamber. She was dressed in a white nightgown and her silky smooth hair was left loose. She walked toward the wolf that was resting in the very center of the floor and spoke - "You can rest here for the night. I will take you out of here once morning will arrive in the outside world."
The wolf just stayed silent but didn’t move. Xiang Ling took its silence as consent and walked into her bed chamber. The bed was calling to her desperately and it didn’t take long for her to fall deep into a dreamless slumber once her body hit the soft mattress.
She recalled sometime during the late hours of the night, she felt something jumping on her bed and settling on the mattress behind her. She felt something warm next to her and it made her snuggle into it as she continued to sleep without any worries.
